Marathon Weekend 2023

So I was just able to grab a marathon registration for January. I would love to "upgrade" to the Dopey if it comes available. Does anyone have fairly recent experience with the process with rD? If availability opens up, do I simply grab the Dopey registration and then work with rD to refund the marathon? I think I did this once before for my wife for the 2020 Princess (upgrading her to the challenge), but I don't remember the timing/order/process. I just called rD a little while ago, and someone there told me that they've never done this. I don't believe that is true.

Thanks in advance for any input.

If you log into your RunDisney account and go to your Marathon Weekend registration there should be a drop down menu at the bottom of the page titled "Change Category". If Dopey opens up, go to that menu, pull it down and select to change your registration to Dopey. It should walk you through the rest of the registration process for Dopey, including paying the upgrade fee and the difference in registration costs. They're trying to get away from the old, manual, call RunDisney to switch method.

That would make me nervous since you need fast fingers to snag a registration right now. Personally I would probably snag the dopey and try to work with runDisney after. But I would do so knowing that I'm risking having to pay for both.

It should actually be quicker to use the "Change Category" approach, since you have to log into your account to register anyway and you shouldn't have to reenter all your details since you're just switching up your registration rather than registering from scratch.

This is what I did to get Goofy yesterday. I then emailed rundisney and they have already processed my refund for the full minus a $45 fee.

There were a lot (at least 10-15) people posting the last couple days that there was no option to change your race registration. That the only option was to do a whole new registration then request the refund. Who knows if that was just a glitch in the system (probably so).

That would certainly put a damper on that approach!

I guess all registration advice posts should come with the caveat of "Disney IT permitting".

Good Morning runDisney All-Stars! It is time for a new SAFD question. Today’s question: With fall races around the corner, what races are you running? Any major goals?

I am running the New York Marathon in November as part of the Celiac Awareness Foundation. Very excited, this will be my first Marathon Major and first time in New York. As for goals - outside my fundraising - which is a beast all it’s own! I am going to be focusing on building hill strength as I understand the course is very hilly; maintain my current diet changes in efforts to trim down a little and stick to my training plan as it has been designed so I can be really ready for this race and then be able to shift to Dopey prep.

Have a good week all!

SAFD: I'm registered for the DC Half in September which will then somehow transition into marathon training for MW (still working on that plan...) My current POT gets me comfortably into s3 for the marathon, but it would be cool to jump into s2 if I can manage it! I'm definitely not counting on it though.
