107°F here in a few days

I am graciously accepting advice and sympathy.
Im not unsympathetic I just get tired of every little heat wave being sensationalized and we all know why. Maybe invest in small ac unit for the handful of hot days you get. I live in the south and we still have central heat we turn on a couple days a year.

This isn't some little heat wave for everyone. Excessive heat can be dangerous for some people and at the very least very uncomfortable for many others. This isn't a political issue unless you choose to make it one.

I lost an uncle to a heat wave when he was young - Uncle Roger. Never met him.

Apparently he jumped in an old quarry full of cold water to cool off but it got rapidly deeper and before he knew it he was out of his depth and in shock from the cold. The Government at the time ended up circulating warnings about jumping into cold water etc.

That's hot, do you have buildings with solid AC near you? Lots of people in the US who don't have AC seek out public buildings with good air conditioning during heat-waves, malls and restaurants during the warmest part of the day work best.

In the UK our homes are designed to keep heat in, not to keep cool as they are in other climates. 40 degree temperatures are dangerous here because our infrastructure isn’t designed to cope with excessive heat and people don’t know how to cope with it either.

I actually did purchase a small portable AC unit - though it’s great at cooling a room down, it’s not a practical solution and it costs a lot of money to run. Most of the population is dependent on fans during the summer months, which are less expensive to run but much less effective. I’d love to have a proper AC system for the days that we need it!

That's exactly right....there have been several serious heat waves in parts of Europe over the last 5-10 years where thousands of people die because they don't have A/C. It's no joke at all.

Generally it’s only some shops and new hotels that have AC - many buildings are very old and just haven’t been adapted. I’ve never seen a single home with an AC system here and I guess for most of the year one isn’t needed. Mostly we just rely on fans recirculating the hot air to try and cope 😂

How is a home designed to cool? Insulation works both ways. Sometimes we get these unusual cold fronts in the Winter. I have zero warm clothes, but they only last a couple of days and you deal with it. I have more sympathy for people that are going to freeze to death this winter because of heating costs. It cost us 400 dollars a month to keep our house at 79 degrees in the Summer so everyone has their issues. Electric bills are going up too.

More people die from cold weather 20 times more than hot. Do you actually have stats of thousands of people dying?

DD is in London. She said it wasn't so bad today, but tomorrow is supposed to be over 100. She has no air conditioning nor a fan. She said her British friends are terrified, but she didn't seem very concerned at all.

Two days of 100 degrees with it cooling off at night is not excessive heat nor is it deadly. It's just uncomfortable. I just went for a three-mile run at 110 outside. How many people are walking around WDW at 95 degrees today? I've never seen anyone drop dead at WDW. Every time there's a heat wave in Europe it gets sensationalized. Geez look at all the natural disasters we deal with on a yearly basis where people go without power for weeks in the Summer heat.

You are used to it. Maybe consider not belittling people who aren't.

Here in the UK, houses rarely have A/C. The larger shops do, but houses don't. Not even most of the smaller shops do either. We're just not built for this.

it happens…. there was a bad heat wave in 2019…,Paris I believe. A really terrible one in Europe 2002 or 2003 where many thousands died. Very old buildings with no air conditioning. Many made with materials to retain heat in the winters. They couldn’t foresee that we’d cook the planet in a couple of hundred years.

Do you actually have stats on this many thousands dieing? Like I said cold kills 20 times more than heat. It's good their houses retain heat since they may not be able to afford to heat them this winter.

Do you have stats / sources to prove cold kills 20 times more than heat?? In all my life, I have never read about people freezing in their homes. Caught out in blizzards, yes. But that is not a regular occurrence. I live in Buffalo NY. Known for our winter storms. People do not regularly die from cold. But I have read of elderly people, here in the US, dying in their over heated inner city apartments in heat waves over the years. Not everyone in the US has air conditioning either.

European heat wave, 2003… 30,000 dead.

This was the first headline that popped up in my search "European Heat Deaths":

Most of Spain was placed under a heat warning Sunday after the Carlos III Health Institute reported
360 heat-related deaths from causes like heat stroke last week (compared to 27 deaths the week before)
,
as firefighters battle more than 30 forest blazes across the country, according to the Associated Press.

I do agree with your statements re: political incentive,
however last week they were predicting several days of high heat.
Tonight's headlines did pare it down to Monday & Tuesday.

the texas freeze of 2021 killed almost 250 people. i think it was 90% of the state experienced power outages lasting multiple days. Folks also lost water too. People froze in their homes.

Just do a google search not that hard. Period the end. You are just buying into the global warming propaganda Unfortunately, people are going to feel the repercussions of this in the next few years. I'll be in Europe for three weeks in August I'm looking forward to it. I'm sure it will be my last time for a while. https://nypost.com/2021/07/14/more-...death-climate-obsession-leads-to-lousy-fixes/
