Magic band plus- confirmed news from Disney.

I'm thinking the reason that MB and MB2 aren't supported is strictly because they can't pair to your phone via Bluetooth, but my thought is the tech at the gate is the same. Hope they eventually allow you to just enter the serial number and let us use the originals. Also sincerely hope that they improve functionality to include credit card charges and resort access. I'm aware of the whole user/ticket infrastructure issue but there are ways around it, even if it means linking each piece one by one.

Anyway, we've got WDW mb+ already and MK. Will try to link it as soon as it's available in the app and see how it goes. Heading to DLR at the end of the month so this is just in time, will share my thoughts as a WDW MB fan.

Do we think that the magicband+ currently sold for WDW will be the same/supported at DLR? I'm going to WDW in January and have DLR magic key.
This is from the release today:
"You can use MagicBand+ at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, with varying features and experiences between the two destinations."

I have a MB+ from a recent trip to WDW (I live in Georgia, so it's my "home" resort). Will be interested to see if it just appears in the Disneyland app later this month, when I assume the app will be updated to show linked MagicBands. I use the same account for Land and World.

You will need to manually link to your DL app. The 2 apps are not the same.

So, it also says that MB+ requires users to have a Disney account and the app installed. So, how does this work with kids? Does it not allow you to link the bands to separate tickets that are all managed under one account? My kids sign into their phone app with my user id. They don't have their own accounts.

It's not so much the lack of Bluetooth - I think you can pair an MB to the WDW app using NFC or RFID. The problem is that the WDW and DLR systems are completely different and not connected; DLR's system doesn't have MB capability at all. MB is basically an RFID card - there's no equivalent at DLR.

Tech-wise, MBs should be compatible with the scanners at DLR. But getting them attached to the ticket will be a separate process for DLR - and, honestly, that's an expense that has almost no return value for DLR (since they don't sell MB2), especially since the only MB users at DLR will be WDW users who will expect them to have functionality that they won't have at DLR. There's very little upside for them to add them until/unless they're ready to start selling MB2s themselves.

The DLR and WDW systems don't speak to each other. You'll almost certainly have to set it up all over again in the DLR app. (You'll also have to attach the MB+ to a specific DLR ticket/pass, which is different from how it works at WDW.)

I think they just mean "an" account - I assume you'll be able to attach all of their MB+s to their tickets yourself on your phone using your account.

I would assume you can. My Mom uses my account and I paired both our MB+ to the WDW app for our trip last month. I control her plans in MDE/DL apps as I handle all of the planning.

I haven't been following this news at all since I have zero interest -- but just wanted to clarify that it isn't a required thing to have at DLR, is it?

It is killing me that the MBs don't allow access to rooms and spending. I want one so bad but just can't justify it until they add that. I wonder how soon they'll add that.
The spending just doesn't make good business sense. I'm getting one because I have a magic key and would love to not have to pull out my phone all the time.

I'm still undecided about MB+ at DLR. With the new 'Magic Mobile' (the smart watch thingy) there's nothing the MB+ would do (for me) at DLR that Magic Mobile wouldn't enable my Apple Watch to do. The DL version doesn't open doors nor allow you to scan your band to pay. I don't care about games or flashing lights during shows. So for me it's all about scanning in at the turnstiles and at the LL scanners.

My understanding is that the DL app, Magic Mobile, and my Apple watch will be all that I need at DL.

I'll be purchasing an MB+ (with the resort discount) for our WDW trip, but that's not until next Fall and I want to wait to see what designs are available closer to our trip. Not going to buy one now! I know WDW has Magic Mobile, too, but the MB+ has much more functionality at WDW. Once I have my WDW trip MB+, I'll probably use it at DL in the future.

It seems weird that a very well known Disney blogger is posting about these and not correcting anyone in the comments about what you can and can't use this for. I think there are going to be some people surprised that they can't use it to pay or at their hotel when they get to DL. Unless I've missed something big and they can be used to purchase and open your hotel room door.
