Marathon Weekend 2023

SAFD: I’m trying to get caught up on reading the thread, and am behind on posting. I need to answer the questions for @DopeyBadger’s chart, too, but I’m still trying to figure out some of it. I’m usually all into costumes, but I’ve put it off this year, and am not sure what I’m doing. I’m working on a Captain America shirt for DH today, but I don’t know if I’ll get a second shirt made for him. If not, he’ll have to recycle either Herbie the Love Bug or the blue Mr. Incredible that I’ve made him for past races. He’s doing Goofy, so he needs two things. I’m only doing the half, and don’t want to recycle one of my many costumes, so I need to get busy and make something new. I’ll update when I’m farther along.

As for Disney Christmas ornaments, we have several. This is a favorite:

Am I right that the “holiday exclusives” on the menus are still there through MW? I think they stay until the decorations come down, which is the next week. Some of them sound really good this year.

Some leave really early, like right after Christmas. Most of it will stay until the end of the year, but seem to disappear either on December 31 or Jan 1. There's some things that are on Christmas Day only.

Well, that’s disappointing. There are some really good looking things on there. Being Disney, though, I expect that they’ll have plenty of things I will enjoy. I just really wanted to try a couple of those. Seeing the pictures on those links makes me want them even more. 😊

Well, finished off my longest run yet and my last Dopey simulation……With 20 strong, steady miles :) I felt so good at mile 18 I decided to just ease up a tad and see if I could make it happen, if only for my own mental hurdle. Something about getting to that “10k” left mark has soothed a lot of my nerves. I’m a little waddle-y, but no serious pain that would suggest injury or pushing too far. I made major adjustments to my fueling, found out that salt caps are going to be essential, and successfully completed 40 miles over the last four days.

I‘m terrified of the Orlando heat still, but still really proud of where I am considering a year ago I was wrapping up physical therapy.

Most of my ornaments were in storage the last two Christmases so I was really excited about getting them all out this year. This might be an unpopular opinion but I don't really like the shoe ornaments so last time I ran the marathon I had one customized instead (Dale even got a cute little Mickey medal). Chip & Dale are two of my favs plus this was the first marathon that finishers got ear hats ☺️.

Got my last long run in today, like so many others. 16 miles, with the last 3 at marathon pace as a kicker. Ended up running the last 3 about 30 sec/mile faster than marathon pace and felt stronger than I ever have. And that was with the temp being -1 with a windchill of -16 when I started. But on the plus side it warmed up to a whopping 3 by the time I finished. It was rough in the cojld, but I got it done and feel ready to finally go sub-4 in the marathon.

No costumes for my DH or me, but we also enjoy seeing everyone else’s costumes! 🤩 No ornaments on our tree this year sadly due to the gangly rescue we adopted at the end of October. He is a straight Great Dane and German Shepherd mix, and when he plays with the 100+ pound Ridgebacks things get out of control quickly. 😳😵‍💫 We didn’t want to risk our treasured ornaments this year…

Beautiful dogs!

@Novatrix those are some really cool costume themes 🤩
Thanks! Probably will be cooler in concept than in execution, but I'm working on pulling Cold/Normal/Hot temp versions together now.

After my first Dopey (where I was Happy/Sleepy/Grumpy/Dopey), I knew next time I wanted to honor each of the four parks. Hopefully it all works out!

SAFD: Already talked about my costumes, so my favorite ornament is the millennium globe ornament with all the Disney characters that looks like this.m63032738112_1.jpg

My shirt for the 5k and my tank for the 10k. Wearing some bright blue shorts, and probably pink headband, with the shirt. Then wearing bright green shorts and probably a green headband with the tank. May grab some old school tube socks with the stripes at top.

Was going to go with a Dinoco McQueen costume for the half and and Lightning McQueen for the full, but plans fell through on that. So just going with regular running gear for those.
