Marathon Weekend 2023

Was this at MK? If I bring my small ultra lite chair is that okay?

If not, where should I cheer for the half marathon that’s not the finish if I want to a. Sleep in as much as possible and b. Minimize walking?

This was along the road behind GF and Poly. Depending on where you're staying, you can walk from the TTC or take the monorail and walk through the resort to get there.

ETA one more question: do they have cheer sign making materials at the Expo?

I missed it if it was at the expo, but the lobby of the Boardwalk had sign making materials set out on the days the races went by there -- I think 10K and Full last year.

Random questions:

does anyone know if the 10% Disney Visa discount works at the merch section of the Expo?

Yes to Disney Visa and AP discounts at the merch site!

I’m aiming to spectate the half at the GF or Poly to reduce walking and standing. Just have to walk from car or bus to the monorail, and a email amount of walking to switch monorails and go through the resort.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Dasani bottle in a Loungefly pocket, so I’m thinking not?

They usually do have a sign-making table at the expo, but not alwys in the same location - I’ve seen it in the vendor section, as well as in the official merch building. You’ll want to look around as you do your expo-ing to find it!

Last year (2022) the mobile checkout option was not able to utilize AP discounts, not sure about Visa discount. You had to stand in line to get them. I believe the app can handle them now. Something to double check before using mobile checkout.

I was able to get my AP discount at Princess, Springtime, and W&D using mobile checkout, so they’ve got that solved (or they did, never underestimate Disney IT’s ability to break something that was working just fine)

Ugh. Scrolling through the rundisney fb groups this morning and I'm so annoyed with people.

So many posts this week about all of the things walkers should do to essentially stay out of [real] runners' way and not inconvenience them in any way.

Planning on doing intervals? Start in the back of your corral so you aren't in the way. Stay single file when you do a walk interval (and we know that SO MANY people do intervals, and yet it becomes assumed that if you're walking next to someone that you're 'rudely blocking the whole course.') I'm sure I'll get to listen to people complain about that at the airport while we wait for our flight....that was the main conversation I heard last year.

Some [real] runners are probably trying to PR so you should definitely not take up any space, especially in the narrow parts of the course because [real] runners shouldn't have to slow down at bottlenecks.

I understand that this probably isn't their intention when they post stuff like this, but gosh.....there's such an overtone of entitlement that so many of them are completely oblivious to. Yes, we need to share the course and be courteous to others.

Yep, I’m seeing it and trying to tune it out, too.

As a run-walker myself, who tends to have a faster run, slower walk, than most people of similar pace, the first few and last few miles are always a battle for controlling frustration: run-only-ers aren’t the only ones who encounter people moving slower than them, but some of them sure like to think so! If everyone just exercised common courtesy by paying attention to what’s going on around them and passing/slowing down when and where it’s safe to - just like driving a car - I think we could all have a better experience out there. And contrary to popular belief, the far right side isn’t always the place to be if you’re slower, especially if that’s the inside of a turn where runners going for time want to take the tangent.

That said, the narrow points are really, really bad and I do wish rD/TrackShack could come up with a way to ditch Cone Alley and the BW path. I’m guilty of asking - politely, always! - the people walking slowly across the width of those to please make space on the far left for people to pass. I know it’s not intentional, but it is a lack of paying attention coupled with a really terrible spot to stuff thousands of bodies into.

Yeah, this kind of thinking is annoying… like maybe a run/walker is also trying to PR? I definitely advocate for courtesy (signaling walk breaks for ppl around you, not being side by side with a big group of friends), but the idea that r/w ppl should have to accommodate everyone else in a race that is more or less “sponsored” (that’s not the right word but you know what I mean) by Galloway doesn’t sit right with me.

Nice! Now I can go with the "wet dog" costume! :P
My 5K costume IS a Pluto mashup... 🤔

My AP discount worked fine with mobile checkout at Princess, Spring and W&D weekends this year.

UGH -- YES!! I've resisted the urge to respond so many times because it's just not worth starting that fight. Much as the parks aren't just for kids, the races aren't just for "real" runners. Everyone needs to realize that there are thousands of people there who are doing this for their own valid reasons. One is not more important than any other. It's like people get this road rage mentality with their space on the course, when we all just need to use simple common courtesy.

Geez! I haven't been on FB since yesterday morning. I understand wanting to emphasize common courtesy on the course, but don't talk down to people. Ugh! I do try to PR at Disney, simply because I live in Denver and my body LOVES all the oxygen at sea level. But we're all there to have fun during our races.
