I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

Happy New Year everyone! I hope someone familiar with Delta can answer a question.
I wanted to transfer some miles from Amex to Skymiles. First I was surprised about the fee:oops:
Anyway looking at the seat map I only see middle seats available unless it is comfort/preferred.
So my question is can i book main cabin with miles and pay cash to upgrade? Or is it the reverse?

I called customer service and he told me you have to pay cash for seat and upgrade with miles...not
the other way around. Does that sound right?:scratchin

Thank you
My experience with Delta - we had a credit to use so I booked my flights from JFK to LHR, LHR to DTW, and DTW to STL with cash. When I went to upgrade with points, I was not able to upgrade the LHR to DTW leg with points, it was cash only. I did upgrade the JFK to LHR flight with points. No idea why I didn’t have the option to upgrade the flight, and customer service could not help.

I know why they reserve a % for cash and % for points and once the points are taken up they stop doing it. I've seen this on r/delta all the time.

That isn't a Delta issue, that is an AMEX issue. They are required to pay the excise tax when they buy the points, AMEX passes that charge along, Chase and Cap1 do not.

You can book MC with points and then pay cash or use points for a "preferred" seat. Usually you can upgrade to Comfort+, FC or DeltaOne using either cash or points, but as @cookiecar points out, there are only a limited number of point upgrade seats available, occasionally they sell out, especially on international flights.

Delta CS don't know nearly as much about their airline as the most knowledgeable customer. I will almost always research any questions I have with the good folks at FlyerTalk before calling into the airline.

I lived for 35 years pretty much under the approach path at MSP, if I could find my old NWA WorldPerks number I might be a million miler on Delta. But have flown a lot of different airlines in the last few years. If I have a choice among the big 4 with similar flight times, profiles and costs, I'd go with Delta. I didn't realize how much I missed having the seatback screen until I didn't have it on a United flight in FC.

Aww! Hey old friends! I’m alive well and still churning like a rockstar. I’ve been super busy. Oldest got married so I inherited a wonderful new son. Next daughter is off to the DCP soon so I get to do that again! Then I’m left with my two boys who are growing faster than I can keep up with. Life is good and I wish I had more time to devote here. This is such a special thread here!

Great pic! I can't believe how much the boys have grown but then I rememeber it was a lot longer ago we met up at wdw than it seems.

Do let us know about her dcp, I'll be down in March for 5 nights.

Is there any hack to use the United Travel Bank credits that deposit with the IHG card? Recently bought some United flights on points, but the Travel Bank funds weren't applied to the taxes. I'm guessing you can't buy gift cards or anything else with them either. It seems I should be able to use this $50 credit on something, but alas...

Known limitation, you can't use travel bank funds on Mileage Plus award ticket security fees.

I am trying come up with my budget for my 2023 trips.

I need 2 3 day park hoppers. I just got approved for the Capital One Venture. I am going to buy the tickets through Undercover tourist the last month of my MSR to help met the spend. I will still be able to erase the tickets with the bonus miles once they hit right? I’m not missing something?

@elgerber

Just wondering are you pleased with Delta? I think i only have flown with them once
years ago. However DH and I just got back from a small trip and we went on another
one in Sept. I was really impressed with Delta. Flight was boarded quickly and on time
both times. (maybe we were lucky) lol.

I need to park some points so I joined Skymiles. However I read a few blogs where they say
Delta skymiles have really been devalued etc. They still seem ok to me. lol
Being in a Delta hub, if we want to fly non stop anywhere, Delta is almost our only choice. The other airlines only have a few non stop routes from here. Other than the fact that they tweak flights alot (minor changes), and cancel and consolidate fairly often (this is much more prevalant in the last few years), I really like Delta. I get good service with them, and have no complaints. They are adding free wi-fi for Skymiles members, I think the date is 2/1.
They are called sky pesos but I find domestic award flights to be good. I think the big 3, dl, ua and aa are all similar enough in that they all have their pluses and minuses.
Where does the Sky Pesos come from? Delta themselves doesn't use that term, so I always wonder when I see it.

Free wi-fi is supposed to be on all mainline domestic flights by 2/1. Some people are reporting that it's already been live on their flights. My wife has Delta flights 1/30 and 2/3 so hopefully she has it on both flights. I'm flying at the same time but on different airlines so my company gets to pay for mine.

I believe SkyPesos started over on FlyerTalk during one of the many SM devaluations in the late 2000's early 2010's. It was when Delta got rid of the fixed award charts too.

I fly next Saturday, so I guess I will give it a try and let you know :-)

Is anyone familiar with the way IHG/Holiday Inns do their charging when you have a reservation (regular cash reservation) booked?

Weeks and weeks ago I made a reservation for 2 nights in February.

I now (just a couple days ago) got a charge on my card of what could be one night room and tax.

I understand hotels charge ahead, but the timing seems very weird. Shouldn't it either have been charged at the time I made the reservation, or maybe a time closer to the reservation date (maybe once the cancelation period has expired)?

I went back and looked at the booking confirmation and it says this...

So is this just their way of saying "we will charge it any time we want, before February 17? The stay starts February 24.

Beautiful family picture!! I kept looking and finally realized that was not a young bridesmaid but you on the right-hand side. You look gorgeous!

Drop around when you have time! When does DD go for the college program? I'll be down there end of January and spending my last night at Jambo house in club level.
Thank you! Allie checks in Jan 30th. She’ll be in liberty square merch, so most likely the Christmas shop or momento mori. You probably won’t see her on this next trip but if you’re down again before June, you might!

Yes! They were much smaller back then when we met up! I’ll let you know where Allie ends up. I’m so excited for her!

On Dec 29 I made a hotel reservation through the Chase UR portal for one night - Dec 30. I used some URs and paid $53 and change with my CSP. I have not received the $50 credit yet, nor any emails about it. Does this usually take some time to post? The room was in DS's name who is an authorized user on my CSP if that makes any difference.

I fly tomorrow and would love to have it working (it’s my understanding it’s the entire flight, not just > 10k feet). Our flight departure time is 7am and I need to book LLs, etc. Would love to be able to do that even if we leave early, lol. This week this flight has left the gates early but not taken off before 7am, so fingers crossed!

Hi!
So I've always played my money really conservatively and about 5 years ago fully paid off CC debt. Now DH and I have gotten promotions and are able to travel and do other things with our money, so I've been increasingly considering applying for other CCs to get the most for our spending. Currently my main card is the PROPEL by WF with perks that fit our lifestyle. 3x dining/gas/travel/groceries and even streaming. I'm not particularly loyal to any one airline or hotel chain, although we do travel Southwest and stay at the Hampton Inn most often. We travel maybe 2x year. Considering getting a 2% on all else card like the WF active cash but hoped to get some insight/advice from you who are most familiar with what's out there. TIA

I was wondering this also and got confused as my account says sky miles. Then I read it was nickname
because of the devalues and worth of the miles. lol

Thanks for that information. It’s frustrating since you can’t really tell it will be an issue until you have already spent the cash to book the flight. Lesson learned on my part.

it came out when variable pricing did instead of them being more valuable like other domestic airlines it was called "pesos"
edit sorry @EACarlson your response was on the next page my fault :)
