Disneyland Half Marathon 2024

So I already order my first costume for the dumbo double dare challenege. I ordered it early since I am using this costume for my local race the Colfax Half Marathon in May which runs through the Denver Zoo. So going as Dumbo is perfect for all the Elphants we have at our zoo. I will wear this for the half in Disneyland.

Stop, I love this!! I’m still trying to narrow down what I want to do for my two races, I have like 20 options lol

I’m fairly sure Im doing Daisy for the 10K. The Daisy tank was on sale on Crowned Athletics so I bought it last week. That means I’ll make my DH be Donald and son be a Nephew. They don’t really care so they’ll humor me with whatever. 🤣

Im leaning towards Goofy for the Half… but also trying to think of a classic Disney character/ride. Bonus if it can go with my Royal Blue sparklebolder skirt I recently bought on sale!

I’ve never done a Disney race before so I have no idea where to get costumes, I’m so worried I’m going to find something I like but end up not being able to wear it for the races for some reason.

my list so far includes Kevin, Marie, Figaro, Belle, Hades, Disgust or Anger, Anna, Ariel, Loki, Moana, Jasmine, Cinderella, Rapunzel, something from Mighty Ducks, and a ton more 🤣

You’ll see a whole range of people- from normal athletic clothes to people you think “how do they run in that?” I tend to go for a Disney Bound look and buy things I’ll wear elsewhere or in training. I suppose except a Daisy Duck tank top. But it was on sale hahaha. I really like SparkleBolder running skirts so I’ll probably buy a purple one to pair with it. They usually have sales in July. But I’ll totally train in that before and after.

Mighty Ducks is so fun!

Etsy is a good place to start if you aren’t crafty or know someone who is… if your leaning toward the DIY angle Pinterest or Instagram are great for inspiration…
I’ve done five of the characters on your short list + my sister has done one (bolded them in quoted post) if you want to know what I personally did to create my look let me know

We are HUGE hockey fans. While it’s only me doing the races (5k and 10k), it would be super fitting for me to dress up in Mighty Ducks appeal

Hey, that sounds like a really fun idea, especially if you have any of the older green and yellow stuff.

I'm the guy who just comes with the t-shirt given for the race, a pair of basic run shorts, socks and sneaks. My DW will go from something similar all the way to a really fun Disney bound. For one Hallowe'en race, she was fully decked out in a dia de los muertos costume! During MW almost a couple of months ago, I saw plenty of people pulling out their mid-90s Disney t-shirts. One guy ran the W&D races in a feather dress. I thought I saw one person in a Prince Charming outfit that was dangerously close to looking legit.

No one judges, we're all here to have fun!

On the later half of that one of my favorite race costumes I ever saw still remains the guy who did the 10k in a full Kronk outfit and was carrying a cardboard Yzma.

On the topic of costumes. If it’s not trad running gear repurposed. Always try to take it for a dry run before hand to avoid at least some race day surprises.

Definitely check out Etsy if you are not crafty enough to make something yourself. I generally Disney bound or do something sparkly. This year for the first time I tried a skater dressed (Giselle) that I found on Etsy and I loved it! So comfortable and flowy. I already have a bunch favorited for next year's races!

There is a ton of inspiration out there on the internet for adapting characters to running costumes. The absolutely most insane costume I saw was someone running a 10k with a hat made to look like the entirety of Neverland. Dressing in costume/to the theme is not required (there are plenty of people who don’t), but it is fun. My favorite runDisney moment was running the Avengers 5k dressed as Agent Carter (red fedora, blue skater skirt, white shirt, and blue running pullover), and having Captain America call me Peggy Carter when I stopped for a character photo with him without me telling him who I was dressed as.

Hey do you guys want to do like weekly or even monthly topic... I miss doing that in the marathon group. But I understand if one is enough for most people.

I don't think the other DLHalf threads did this, and I didn't want to step on the Marathon thread's toes, so that's why I didn't do that. There was also some call in that thread about moving SAFD to its own thread, away from the MW talk.

I'm good either way, but I'll leave it to you guys.

I'd love some Disneyland based SAFD. I feel like there are so many new DL/running at DL things for me to learn about and the best way to do that, IMHO, is from other people's experiences.

I’m game for some Disneyland SAFD. Also was kinda missing that from the Marathon thread but since I won’t be doing that anytime soon. Didn’t feel like posting in there.

Yeah I agree, we should focus on Disneyland stuff that will so help us get to know Disneyland more. I was there in early 2019 but so much has changed since then. Also if people are doing both focusing on Disneyland would be less repetitive.
