Marathon Weekend 2024

I spent part of Saturday at 7,000 feet getting instruction in aerobatics in a vintage SNJ trainer. Way cool.

Yesterday, was more down to earth (literally) on the greenway to get in a long run. Goodness, the flatter greenway sure makes a difference for sustained miles, as opposed to my hilly neighborhood course. As does the near-perfect weather this weekend with highs in the low 80s and low(er) humidity.
I was trying to be faithful to race conditions with a 50-step walk break every mile and some mid-course fuel, with the result being 9.2 miles at a sub-11min/mile pace. Curiously, the foot with Morton's neuroma was a non-issue, while the big toe on my other foot was hurting. Maybe from favoring my "good" foot for regular standing and walking? Regardless, progress, not to mention, I'm totally sold on the Hokas.
As for miles for the month: Garmin says that over the last 4 weeks, I've managed a total of 58 miles. Well short of some of the totals I've seen, but I'll take it. (Moment of panic yesterday evening: I'm trying to pull up my run data to see exact numbers, and nothing was coming up, other than a short 2 minutes of jogging I did post-run. Really? 9 miles and nothing to show for it?!! The watch and phone finally synced up and the full run was there, but I hated the idea of that to not be on the official record. I know, OCD....)
Thank you for reading.

I tell my spouse similar, except usually it's bus driver. I should aim a little higher 🙃
We were at the MK with our kids one night when they were young, and left a little early to beat the closing time rush, yet there weren't any buses. We were at the bus stop 30-40 minutes when Disney Transportation finally rallied some buses to us. Bus is packed to where I'm sitting on the steps watching the road zoom by as we head back to the All Star resorts at a rapid pace, and I hear someone ask the bus driver what the fastest ride at Disney is. "You on it, lady. You on it".
Too funny.

SAFD (TAFD?) - I'm so late this week, but I just can't help chiming in on this great question! I'm really surprised more people didn't say Haunted Mansion caretaker (especially you, Mr. Incredible, with all your puns!). But if not that, then the person at the back of the MK tram who tells people what section they're parked in and have a great day at the parks. Very random, I know, but they're always one of the first real cast members you interact with, and they can help set the tone for the whole day.

SAFD: For only one week, night maintenance/cleaning manager… With the idea that it would be similar arrangements to what I did when I was 18 years old.

I was working at an amusement park. We had 12.5hours shifts but only working on alternating shifts of MT-WT-FSS-MT-WT-FSS. At Disney, that means that I would have some good time off to enjoy the parks. I like that most of the time working would be in a quiet park, strolling outside to assign tasks and provide directions to the various teams. There is something magical in the night and to see the morning come. I like the variety of things that need to happen. One day it is cleaning the windows, the other is hosing the bottom of a boat ride or polishing the floor of bumper cars. We would always finish with the lawn areas, once the light was back.

I noticed the womens jacket/shirt bundle is sold out(?) online. How hard is it to get a jacket at the expo?

SAFD:

Good morning runDisney All-Stars! It is time for Sunday’s are for Disney. For today’s question it is time to talk about cross-training. Do you do it? What do you do? Is it a foreign concept for you? Or are you somewhere in the middle?

My answer - I suck at cross training…. I talk a good talk about how important it is and I regularly make plans with my PT and then immediately don’t follow through. Not exactly proud of this, but bottom line life is so busy and I struggle to find time to run, let alone try to cross train. I pay the price for this though as I am currently sidelined. I know I need to be more committed to some strength training and I own both a mountain and street bike. I need to actually use them. Maybe I will eventually learn!

I'm great at coming up with plans for cross training (which would be lifting.) And really horrible at doing them.

Part of it is that I have no idea how I would fit more workout time into my day right now. Once November gets here? Yeah, I can probably do that. My shortest runs are currently 40min (and by the time I get ready and out the door, walk up the driveway, come home and stretch even just a little, it's more like 60min) so I'm talking about doubling my time commitment for training. That's not feasible right now between work and sports schedules. I'm barely fitting in running, and that will win every time right now. The other part of that is that I have a hard time feeling like anything less than 45ish minutes of lifting does anything for me.

SAFD: I've been better this year since I paid for a strength plan with a rD influencer and don't want to throw my money out the window 😂 I decided to invest in more strength training to see if it helps with my recurring injuries. I do 2, sometimes 3, strength sessions of 30-40 minutes per week.

I hate anything that isn't running so no other cross training for me though. You couldn't pay me to go cycling. I am in awe of the triathletes on the board for training in three different disciplines at once.
