Marathon Weekend 2024

I feel like someone in here will know the answer to this. 1/1 and 1/8 have extended evening hours for deluxe resort guests at Epcot. Is the VQ for that considered to be separate from "regular park hours"? Basically, can we get a VQ for regular park hours, and then a 2nd one when they do the EEH? I'm trying to figure out if we may want to do $ILL for that ride.

In the past there has been a separate VQ drop for EEH. It’s kind of a bummer because it’s EMPTY in there and if they just did standby you’d for sure be able to ride more than once. But yes. You can do the normal 7am and then the EEH drop I think it’s at 6pm but don’t quote me on that.

That's exactly what I'm hoping to do. I kind of figured it was treated like a ticketed event with the VQ, but wasn't 100% sure.

Did some further digging on map stuff and on 12/16/21, Heather Jergensen posted a vid about the 2022 maps, so they must have been released shortly before that. Definitely possible that it happens next week.

With all that said, I’m not expecting major changes here. The biggest question IMO is probably how they handle the Epcot changes. Maybe a question about how the infamous Blizzard Beach section of the marathon is handled (assuming it stays the same). Anyway, here’s my guess: next week for WDW, the following week for DL.

didn't they already release the DL courses though? Wasn't there a big discussion about the start location and (lack of) transportation to it? Last year TeamInTraining (TNT) had some sort of course map "leak" that wasn't entirely accurate about a week before the actual maps/guide was released.

I think they only released the start location and not the full courses? I'm not running it but I'm following the DL weekend thread, so if I'm remembering wrong, someone can jump in.

Yes, only the start, and I think the finish will be close by. It caused a bit of chaos in the DL thread because people had expectations that the races would start closer to the resort hotels.

There's also some speculation about which park we'll be running through first based on opening times for the day of the half.

The only thing Disneyland released was the approximate start line.

The only real thing we got was that the 10k, half, and kids races was moved from in front of The Disneyland Hotel all the way to the other side by Disney Way off Harbor Blvd.

Beyond that, we don't have any other information.

I've been sicker than I can remember being for the past week. Which means no running has happened.
I finally managed to get out of bed today, and made a prototype for my medal bags? pouches? not sure what you'd call them. I'm not 100% happy with how it turned out, but it fits the biggest medal I have (2021 wine and dine challenge medal), so I'll call it good enough. Now to make 5 more. They’re quick enough to make, if anyone would like me to make extras and bring to one of the meet ups.

Someone brought up the fun BB parking lot route above. Has it been noted/discussed that BB says “closed” under park hours on Sunday? I think if I remember correctly last year they posted hours with a later opening for a bit but then eventually revised it to be closed all together at some point (may not have that 100% right, have a vague memory of something like that in my head).

IIRC, they just closed BB on Sunday. Then it got so warm, they closed the BB parking lot on Sunday afternoon 😬

Good Morning runDisney All-Stars! It is time for Sundays Are For Disney. This week it is time to talk about The Taper. Most plans will have a final long run or simulation and then a few weeks with reduced/to very little running. Do you follow a plan with a taper? How do you handle the taper? Any pros or cons?

My answer: Certainly it is nice to have reduced running commitments during the taper, especially with the holidays. But for me taper madness is a real thing. I get anxious, over focused on every little pain, worry too much about weight gain with all the good meals and treats I am eating around the holidays…. So I have found that I need to keep running through the taper. I do reduce mileage some and take out any speed work. But otherwise I keep right on running. My final run before Dopey will be a 2 mile shake out on Wednesday/Expo day. Gotta say I am just getting more and more excited!

SAFD: My plan includes a taper which I am eager to get to! The weather is turning here and it always seems to be less than desirable on my long run mornings so I’m ready to start dropping mileage! I am over analyzing everything right now because *knock on wood* things are going well. I’m looking forward to coasting into Goofy + 10k.

I feel you on this! Running is the easiest way to keep my weight from creeping throughout the year and tapering right at Christmas is the worst!

SAFD:
I had a taper planned, but illness and injury really screwed that up for me. I'm planning on running until the day we got on a plane for MCO (and depending on things, I might get up really early and run that day before we leave.) My weekly mileage is in the toilet right now, so there will be no taper, just scrambling to hang on to whatever fitness I managed to achieve.

SAFD: One week in to a forced ‘taper’ to let whatever I did to my foot heal or at least calm down, so now totally off schedule on training. I wanted to supplement with Peloton but my coach recommended I totally sit out a week. I’ve never been one to always be active but to go from Dopey training to nothing is a hard transition, especially with the holiday calories as others have mentioned. We’re going to add Peloton and some low mileage runs this week to try to get back into it/salvage what I can. I was pretty grumbly/frustrated at first but have transitioned to more of a “just going to roll with it and enjoy the moment” attitude.
