AKL value 2 bedroom question

I have a question about the occupancy at AKL. The value 2 bedroom says it sleeps 8, but is this a situation where like some places say they sleep 4 but 5 can be in the room (you provide your own linens for the 5th) or is it only for 8? We may travel with friends and there will be 4 adults and 5 kids, so the value would save points, but if we can't fit then I know ahead of time so we can plan the standard 2 bedroom.

I believe they are strict on the occupancy of the Value rooms. In addition, the rooms are physically smaller than Standard View and Savanna View rooms in Jambo House. They are 3 feet shorter (from door to balcony) but with most of the same furnishings except for the sleeper chair in the living area and the storage bench in the studio. There is no open space in the room to stash your luggage and limited storage for clothes.

ETA: You didn't mention the ages of the kids. If one of them is under 3 then you can book a Value 2BR. There is still the issue of whether you would want to given the lack of physical space in the room. If you book a 2BR Standard View at Kidani you get a larger room (larger than a Standard View at Jambo House and much larger than a Value 2BR) plus you get an additional full bathroom.

All the kids are older than 3 so it looks like we will book a standard 2 bedroom if they decide to go with us. Thanks!

If you do book a standard view 2BR, you may want to consider staying at Kidani, rather that Jambo. The 2BR at Jambo are all lock-offs, so the second bedroom has a queen-sized bed and sleeper sofa. The dedicated standards at Kidani have 3 full bathrooms and are considerably larger than the 2BR's at Jambo. There are two queen beds in a Kidani dedicated 2BR. The master bathrooms at Kidani are part of the master bedroom and have a separate jacuzzi tub and shower. Jambo's master bath is across the hall from the master BR and has a jacuzzi tub/shower combo.

The drawback to the standard view rooms at Kidani is that they mostly overlook the bus stop and parking area. There is a section that overlooks the pool area, and you can request that location when you make the reservation. We did that once and got a 2BR on the third floor with a pool view and we had a partial view of the Pembe savanna.

Kidani has the advantage of being the first stop for the park buses, so they generally arrive with ample seating for your party. We like the pool area much better than the one at Jambo, although they are both very nice. There is an awesome splash play area at Kidani for the kids, and kids at heart. The one drawback that some with kids find with Kidani is the lack of a quick-service restaurant. The only QS is Mara, at Jambo House. This has never been an issue for us, as we usually have cereal bars and fruit in the room and eat lunch and/or dinner in the parks or elsewhere on property.
