I just booked up last week at the BW (well, bar one day that I'm waitlisted for) for Christmas week.
I had to ring on a day by day basis naturally, but I expected my chances to be slim considering it's the busiest time of the year (in the past, they've actually held lotteries for those dates because they're so much in demand) and expected to be on the waitlist at the very minimum.
However, every day I got the day I wanted no problem except for the 23rd for some reason (you'd think if the 23rd was gone, so would the 24th & 25th ) and that was because of the wretched Bank Holiday last Monday - because MS was closed for 3 days, when I rang up, all the lines were engaged - by the time I got through, the 23rd had already gone Atleast I'll be near the top of the waitlist
But hey ho! I got 7 out of 8 nights on my first try (and not getting the 8th day was really just bad luck) and who knows...maybe my waitlist has already come through and my confirmation is in the mail already!
Just goes to show though, that there is always hope at the 7 month window
