Just curious..what does a Casino Host do? I keep reading posts here that lead me to more questions

They are like a concierge for a guest that gambles a lot, but they also sell the casino, in a manner of speaking. They make room, dinner & show reservations, set up lines of credit, makes limo/transportation arrangements for your arrival, sends welcome amenities to your room and gets you chips or cash or whatever you need when you arrive. In short, anything to get you to feel warm & fuzzy and spend a lot of money in the casino. Depending on how much the guest gambles, some if not all of these things are complimentary to the guest (comped, in Vegas language).
However, it is a hard job. A lot of the job is telemarketing; for instance, they call guests who have stayed 1 - 2 times a year and try to get them to come 3 - 4 times a year. They have to decide whose profiles are worth pursuing from the data they have on guest prior stays; and spend their time focusing on guests who are likely to return. A host will write personal letters, send gifts & cards on birthdays . . . somewhat like a private banker at a bank, whose customers have a net worth of X dollars & they try to get them to buy annuities, open IRAs; anything to deposit more money in the bank . . . but for a casino, anything to get a high net worth guest to return & spend money in the casino.
Most casino hosts focus on specific areas. There are slot hosts, whose customers primarily play slots rather than table games. There are junior hosts, who might assist a senior host or only focus on telemarketing. A host may focus on Latin American guests, or Asian guests, or European guests; and speak a multitude of languages to be able to reach out to those guests. A senior host or a director of casino marketing may focus on high net worth guests; these kinds of guests may gamble millions of dollars a year.
