Canadian Buffoon's Exhausted Vacation - Update 09/01 - New TR link!

Well hello and thanks for the update!!! Nice to see you around!! (not that I should talk lol)

There is hope.

Doctors, while unable to stop the ravages
of our least favourite virus, seem to at least
have reduced the mortality rate somewhat.
And of course, there is the promise of vaccines
already beginning distribution or in various
stages of development.

Man I really hope so!! We have to cling to something, right?

Santa… face down in the muck.
If that doesn’t describe 2020 in a single visual,
I don’t know what does!

Yup!! That was definitely some bad foreshadowing of things to come...

I was doing things that I never thought
I’d not be able to do again for the rest
of the year and into the foreseeable future.

If we only knew right? I can think of a lot more things I would have done from Jan-March had I known what was coming!

After our ride, we continued on
and drove an additional half hour to:

I had to reread that bit, I thought you were bringing the horses camping...which...would be pretty cool but...logistics..not sure!

Also... when we waded out...
we each found we'd picked up
an unwanted passenger.
One leach each.

Oh yuck. For some reason I kind of forgot that leaches existed since I have not seen one for about thirty years....I guess you have to be in the right place at the right time lol

I returned to camp and dinner.
And of course, the inevitable
campfire and S’mores.

With peanut butter cups?? A nice variation...I will have to try that!

I'd read about a seasonal outdoor
restaurant called Jennifer's Picnic.
They specialized in Wiener Schnitzel,
so how could I say no?

Seems like some odd choices for a food truck...but why not?

while Elle had escargot.

From a food truck? You are brave!

(Unfortunately, I got injured and while
I can still run 5K, I am not running 10Ks
like I was a few months ago.)

Ugh...yeah those running injuries are no fun. But so cool you did a Disney virtual race...I don't think I knew that Canadians could sign up for those!

And the Van Gogh exhibition
came to Winnipeg.

We saw that in Toronto, very cool! We also had a drive-thru version here that my parents did.

The fact that there’s been little edification
and next to no entertainment is beside the point.
The amount of readers who were looking forward to your post(s) and replied belies this statement.
A (very) short respite

Short being 3 posts... ;)
I was doing things that I never thought
I’d not be able to do again for the rest
of the year and into the foreseeable future.

Like seeing another human being's face again.

and it's a lot harder than I thought it would be.

YES!!! It super is!

(Yes. That's my photo.
It's not far from my folks' place.)

:lmao:
Except... that meant we staffed one person/shift.
And while traffic numbers are down, globally,
most of us had days where we were overwhelmed
due to excessive workload.

Yes, with our nurses having to be out of work for every little sniffle now, we are super overworked and will be until God knows when.

Don't ask me what the thinking was.
We've managed to avoid infecting
the building so I suppose it's working.

Interesting....

(And socially distanced.)

Well, being that the front end of a horse AND the back end of a horse both contain 3 or so feet AND horses tend to like 3 or more feet between themselves... I think you were "socially distanced" whether you intended to be or not.

The boater admonished us and asked
if we had bells or horns to sound.
I hung my head and replied that we didn't.

Oops!!

Only on the return journey southward
did we find out that in actuality he was
required to sound his horn and that we
had the right of way!

Yes, I wondered about that. Seems to me the lighter craft WITHOUT motors get ROW, just like in aviation?

As we got closer, we spotted an
abandoned dock on the island
and had a picnic on it.

Now that's a right legit spot!

Also... when we waded out...
we each found we'd picked up
an unwanted passenger.
One leach each.

Hey, those are in fashion again. Maybe it cleared up some unknown plague you had that you didn't know about. You should be thankful!
IMG_3635.jpg

Turned out beautifully! Well done!

Very, very pretty!
mmmm… Want one?
Yes. Yes, you do.

Yes, but with 1/4 the chocolate. That amount would make it WAY too rich for me.

It was a very solemn
and humbling experience,
and I'm glad we went to
witness it.

I'm so glad you enjoyed that. :)

The solution?
A worker, with a rope tied
around his waist (!) would
walk on the ice and chop it away.
How's that for a job?
Quite a risk there.
The actual "dam" or
power house.
The holes are where the
turbines were located.

Neat!! I"m sure that was very impressive and interesting!

(Among the other exotic foods
that they have had: alligator, rabbit,
bison, sturgeon and kangaroo.)

Quite the menagerie! I've had 4 of the 5 and aside from the gator, all have been very tasty.
So I did what any good father
(who had been disturbed from his rest)
would do...
I told her a story about a giant
Grizzly bear. I'm sure it helped.

:lmao:
Also this year, I decided to
take up jogging.
I used the C25K app.
(Couch to 5K)
I started out by running for
60 seconds.

That is very impressive! Good job! I've done that one too when my body still worked. Makes me a bit melancholy. Maybe after I move to drier ground next year, I'll be able to try again.
IMG_3899.jpg

Now I run 5K just for the fun of it.

Nice medal! :)

Yay!!! So happy to see an update from you, I've missed you!
:wave2:
Hi Tracy! Nice to "see" you again!
That absolutely, positively sums 2020 up in a single visual.
 Doesn't it though????
They are so beautiful... and fluffy!
Definitely a couple of floof-balls. :)
Trying living in said country... :faint:
:rolleyes1
You forgot hail. I'll be anxiously waiting for this error to be corrected.
Since you're hankering for hail, I give you...

Hacking through hail.

You're welcome.
EEEEEEECK!
That was our reaction.
It's like you were there.

Beautiful work! :thumbsup2
Thanks! :)
Gorgeous picture. Beautiful little church.
It is a cute little thing.
No idea why it took me so long to stop and see it!

I see what you did there :rotfl:
I had to.
Otherwise @Captain_Oblivious would be overly disappointed.

I guess my job is starting to sound a little better...
Not quite as life-threatening??
Great incentive! Love the swag.
I do too!!
YES, YES, and YES!!! Happy New Year!!! So great to "see" you again
Happy New Year Tracy!
Wonderful to "see" you again too!

Well hello and thanks for the update!!! Nice to see you around!! (not that I should talk lol)
Hi Kathy! Nice to see you too. :)
Man I really hope so!! We have to cling to something, right?
Definitely. Without hope... there's just too much darkness out there.
Yup!! That was definitely some bad foreshadowing of things to come...
Sooooo accurate!
If we only knew right? I can think of a lot more things I would have done from Jan-March had I known what was coming!
::yes::
I had to reread that bit, I thought you were bringing the horses camping...which...would be pretty cool but...logistics..not sure!
Oh, sure. We just put them in the back seat.
They curled up and napped as we drove.

:rolleyes1
Oh yuck. For some reason I kind of forgot that leaches existed since I have not seen one for about thirty years....I guess you have to be in the right place at the right time lol
It had been about as long for me too.
I remembered all too quickly how yucky they are!

With peanut butter cups?? A nice variation...I will have to try that!
::yes:: 10/10 can recommend!
Seems like some odd choices for a food truck...but why not?
No reason why not!
From a food truck? You are brave!
I had some. There was a lot.
They were very good, too!

Ugh...yeah those running injuries are no fun. But so cool you did a Disney virtual race...I don't think I knew that Canadians could sign up for those!
We can't.
I signed up and (with her permission)
used @franandaj address in California.
When they got the medals, they were

kind enough to mail them up here.
We saw that in Toronto, very cool! We also had a drive-thru version here that my parents did.
Drive through! Really!
I didn't know that was even possible!

The amount of readers who were looking forward to your post(s) and replied belies this statement.
Suckers for punishment, all.

You too.

:lmao:
Short being 3 posts... ;)
For an entire year????

YES!
Like seeing another human being's face again.
You're right.
Don't you just miss these??

547535547536547537
YES!!! It super is!
You would know!!
Yes, with our nurses having to be out of work for every little sniffle now, we are super overworked and will be until God knows when.
Same with us.
I just was off for two days, putting more pressure on the rest
of the staff because L had Covid symptoms and flu-like symptoms.
Well, being that the front end of a horse AND the back end of a horse both contain 3 or so feet AND horses tend to like 3 or more feet between themselves... I think you were "socially distanced" whether you intended to be or not.
Automatically imposed social distancing.
I think everyone should be required to ride horses.

No exceptions.

Yes, I wondered about that. Seems to me the lighter craft WITHOUT motors get ROW, just like in aviation?
Yes, in aviation, a glider has ROW over a powered aircraft.
And on water, a powered vessel must give way to a non-powered.
(Think sailing.)
However in this case, ROW is determined by current.

We had ROW, regardless of propulsion method.
Now that's a right legit spot!
::yes::
Hey, those are in fashion again. Maybe it cleared up some unknown plague you had that you didn't know about. You should be thankful!
Well, I'll let you volunteer
for the next bleeding.

Turned out beautifully! Well done!
Thanks! :)
Very, very pretty!
It's a nice little church. :)
Yes, but with 1/4 the chocolate. That amount would make it WAY too rich for me.
Well, you can't have peanut butter cups
without the chocolate.
So I just had to suffer with more chocolate than usual.

It was a sacrifice I was willing to make.

For science, you know.
I'm so glad you enjoyed that. :)
It was really interesting.
And in my own backyard!

Quite a risk there.
But I'm sure he got a few cents a day to do it.
Neat!! I"m sure that was very impressive and interesting!
::yes::
Quite the menagerie! I've had 4 of the 5 and aside from the gator, all have been very tasty.
You're ahead of me.
I suspect you haven't had kangaroo (nor have I.)
I have only had the eggs of sturgeon. And that was... oh... about 40 years ago.
That is very impressive! Good job! I've done that one too when my body still worked. Makes me a bit melancholy. Maybe after I move to drier ground next year, I'll be able to try again.
If you do, good luck!
And let me know how it goes.

Nice medal! :)
Thanks!
For me, it was worth it. It's not obvious from the photo,
but it's quite heavy and not plastic.

Would I do it again? Possibly not.

But for a nice HM medal? ::yes::

Happy New Year! I'm not here much at all anymore. Seems like Facebook sucks me in too much. I've been thinking about my DIS friends lately. I'm looking forward to catching up.

Good to see your update and read how your year went. 2020 was certainly a challenge but I hope we're on the right road to some normalcy. We have a Disney trip (twice moved) in early March. Crossing my fingers it's a good experience - we'll be celebrating my DH's retirement!

Oh, sure. We just put them in the back seat.
They curled up and napped as we drove.

Ha!! Well actually I was thinking more you'd ride the horses to a campsite. But then I got stuck on "but what would the horses do during the night while you were sleeping in tents?, but then...horses do sleep standing up so...I guess they could just hang out nearby?" Yeah, I'm REALLY bored these days.

We can't.
I signed up and (with her permission)
used @franandaj address in California.
When they got the medals, they were

kind enough to mail them up here.

Ooooh sneaky. And brilliant. I will definitely try that sometime.

Drive through! Really!
I didn't know that was even possible!

Yeah it was like in this giant warehouse and the cars all drive in and then park and then watch the show from your car. I don't think it would be quite as immersive as the walk through one that I did because you could see the projections on the floor and all around you, but for people with mobility issues, it's a great way to see it.

Hi! It's been quite a year, hasn't it?
I sure hope your trip is able to happen, and all goes well.
Retirement... I'm quite envious. I still have about another 5.5 years to go.

Oh they just sleep in the tents with us.
They're quite good at cuddling, you know.

Maybe I'm bored too... :rolleyes1
Ooooh sneaky. And brilliant. I will definitely try that sometime.
Be warned. It's expensive.
First it's in US dollars, of course.
Then the shipping cost from US - Canada are not insignificant.

I don't think it would be quite as immersive as the walk through one that I did because you could see the projections on the floor and all around you, but for people with mobility issues, it's a great way to see it.
Huh!
But... yes, I can definitely see for people with mobility issues it would be a godsend.

Well, hello there.

Why I am writing is just my way of trying
to provide you, dear reader, with a small gift.

OOOhhh -- I can't wait to see what you got me!

A (very) short respite from the troubles of the world.
A tiny escape for those who are stuck
in the humdrum of 2020
and perhaps unable to get away like they
normally might be so inclined.

Oh...it's like a virtual gift.

So, for your entertainment, or perhaps, unfortunately,
to add to your ennui

...looking up the word ennui online...

As I sat in the car, I spotted this discarded dog toy.
I thought Canada was supposed to be beautiful?

I took a familiarization flight in a Cessna
where I even got to take the controls.

200.gif

Luckily, I have sous-chefs that
assist me in these endeavours.

IMG_3391.jpg

(Yes. That's where they hang out
while I'm trying to cook and not
step on them.)

my dogs do the same thing.

Nice cooktop by the way. I'm officially jealous.

So what does one do in a pandemic
when the borders are closed
and travel is discouraged?
Well, I did go camping with my youngest DD, Kay.

sounds like a plan!

We arrived in plenty of time for
our 10am scheduled ride.
We had driven through driving rain
(as opposed to sledding through sleet?
Fighting through fog?
Inching through ice?
I'll quit now. You're welcome.)

You're writing teacher would be proud of your use of alliteration.

The story was curious enough
to be covered by the TV show
"Unsolved Mysteries".
If you're interested, I've linked
the episode below. The first 15
minutes of the program discuss
the incident.

I love the intro music for this show -- so distinguishable.

We found our campsite and...
it was a wee bit on the boggy side.

good for you for sticking it out -- I'm not a fan of camping in the mud. I HATE cleaning out the tent afterwards...and all that mud just makes it so much worse.

And no camping trip would
be complete without a campfire.
And no campfire is complete
without S'mores.

I'm pretty sure this is a legal requirement.

Shortly after we entered the tunnel,
we were met by a motorboat traveling
in the opposite direction.

that would be scary.

Notice the sign advising motorists
of the rules for traversing the tunnel
in the photo below:

does this mean you broke the rule on your way back?

When we got back to our campsite,
we were both ready to cool down
with a swim.
We headed to the beach, which we
had all to ourselves.
And we found out why.
We waded in and got as far as
about mid-thigh.
The water temperature, still early
in the year, was probably around 45F/7C.

Aren't you from Canada? This seems like something you should have known by now.

Also... when we waded out...
we each found we'd picked up
an unwanted passenger.
One leach each.

Sooooo gross.

Yikes. How did you get them off?

And another small project was
replacing the gate.
I think it turned out well enough.

Deck and gate look great!

200.gif

I'll say that it was a very good burger.
Don't you think that Kay thinks so too?
And in case you were wondering...
Hot dogs won the contest.

hot dogs have a numbers advantage in that people often buy 2 or more for themselves.

Later, the kids tried jumping
from the rocks and while they
liked the lower (8-10ft) jumping
off point, Kay tried the higher (20ft)
spot but said it knocked the breath
out of her.
I settled for the lower spot, myself.
I don’t have a death wish.

200.gif

I never did see the squirrel that
had scolded me.

I've often thought that a couple squirrels could really mess you up if they wanted to. They always make me a little nervous. When I was in college (university as you guys call it), I used to carry sunflower seeds in my backpack just in case some squirrels came up to me. Didn't want them to be hangry.

mmmm… Want one?
Yes. Yes, you do.

ba8fb235ca756b85c8b9b3b3321f6749.gif

t was actually quite pretty.
It made the flames turn different
colours and lasted over half an hour!

that is pretty sweet. Looks like amazon also carries them! https://www.amazon.com/Mystical-Fire-Colorant-Long-Lasting-Pulsating/dp/B00AFVLVI4

What's a petroform?

I would've guessed some sort of oil formation (petrol?) But clearly that isn't the case.

In contrast, this horse (?) is
over six feet long.

I'd go with brontosaurus

The solution?
A worker, with a rope tied
around his waist (!) would
walk on the ice and chop it away.
How's that for a job?

yikes. Not my idea of fun.

Notice the Covid spaced tables.
Of course, I opted for the schnitzel.
So did Kay.
DW had chicken fingers (boring!),
while Elle had escargot.

I would have been tempted to buy one of everything just to try it all.

AND WHERE ARE THE FOOD PICS????

Oh. I also had a camel kabob.
Never had camel before.
Tasted alright.
I couldn't tell if it formerly had
one hump or two.

source.gif

So I did what any good father
(who had been disturbed from his rest)
would do...
I told her a story about a giant
Grizzly bear. I'm sure it helped.

Made me laugh, anyways.
I'm evil that way.

Was it this grizzly story?

eZrlrq.gif

Elle's test to come back.
ETA: Just found out it was negative. Phew!)

Hooray!

I called the pool company that
installed it and they sent someone
out to look at it.
I was informed that they didn't use
that system anymore and to "fix" it
they would have to replace it at a
cost of about $2,000.

yeah -- that seems a little excessive. is it more than just replumbing it or did you lose something else?

Elle joined me and we set a goal.
We wanted to see if we could run 5K.
We signed up for a Disney
virtual 5K as an incentive.

We stuck with it, and eventually...

Wow! Congrats! That's a cool medal.

And sorry to hear about the injury -- hopefully you get/got better quickly.

And the Van Gogh exhibition
came to Winnipeg.
I took my folks (and Kay)
to go see it.
It's a dynamic display of
his works that are constantly
changing as you watch.
The paintings are projected
on the walls and the floor.

this is amazing.

Halloween was a bust.
We normally get around 120 kids,
but this year we got 12.
'Nuff said.

Ours was down a little -- but I wouldn't know for sure since I was at the Magic Kingdom for Halloween with the two youngest. Holy crap -- the line for Haunted Mansion extended all the way past the riverboat and almost got to the boat ramp for Tom Sawyer's island. Ended up walking around for a few hours and got the kids back to the Poly for dinner before passing out for the night.

And by the way…

Did you see it?

I did not -- gave it a second look through and still didn't see anything. Will have to look again.

Ahhh, nothing like a ponzi update! It is so good to hear you and your family are healthy! Love, as usual, the reporting on your trips!

Against our typically rational, wise, careful judgment, we went to Orlando this past July. No parks of course -- they were closed -- but we had rented a 5 bedroom condo at Championsgate, with a pool, and we thought-- hey, we can quarantine at home, or in Orlando...so Orlando won! When we did venture out it was our experience everyone was careful, socially distanced, and masked up. I carried Lysol and Clorox wipes and we basically stayed in our family bubble even while on "vacation." We spent a LOT of time relaxing, it was so nice.

We currently have semi-plans to go this coming June. They may change, but having something to look forward to is nice. Parks are in question still for us, I made the reservations just in case, but if the numbers don't look good or feel right, we will cancel.

I love The Disboards, what a respite they have been when virus news, or politics, get me down. A little pixie dust and my happy place always helps!

Dawn

Well, hi there, stranger!
OOOhhh -- I can't wait to see what you got me!
Hope you like it...
Oh...it's like a virtual gift.
No, no. I mailed it to you.
It'll look like... hmm... a stimulus check.
But it's from me. Honest.
...looking up the word ennui online...
Always happy to make people
do research just to understand
what I'm blathering on about.
I thought Canada was supposed to be beautiful?
It is. All of it.
That was the only spot in the whole country
that wasn't absolutely pristine.
A government agent picked it up moments later

and sterilized and blessed the ground it sat upon.
If my instructor had passed out... yes.
my dogs do the same thing.
Seems like a lot of our dogs do!
Nice cooktop by the way. I'm officially jealous.
When we built the house, I designed the kitchen
the way I wanted it. And I wanted that Wolf cooktop, too.

You're writing teacher would be proud of your use of alliteration.
Nah. She'd think I was being pedantic.
I love the intro music for this show -- so distinguishable.
Yes!
You heard that and you knew you were sitting down to watch.

good for you for sticking it out -- I'm not a fan of camping in the mud. I HATE cleaning out the tent afterwards...and all that mud just makes it so much worse.
Luckily there was grass where we pitched the tents, so no cleaning other than a little drying.
I'm pretty sure this is a legal requirement.
::yes::
that would be scary.
Nah. He was going really slowly.
does this mean you broke the rule on your way back?
Yup.
And I did think of it on the way in.
But we didn't meet anyone going the other way this time.
Aren't you from Canada? This seems like something you should have known by now.
Funny thing, that...

Caddy lake is just a stone's throw from West Hawk... where I've gone for decades... and never seen a leech.
Nutimik, where we did go swimming, without any disgusting encounters,
is directly connected to Lac du Bonnet, where I've seen tons of leeches.

I have no idea why one had some (where I would've bet there'd be none) and the other had none (where I'd have not been surprised to see some.)
Yikes. How did you get them off?
Just pulled them off.
I think they really hadn't had enough of a chance to really get latched on.

Deck and gate look great!

200.gif
Yussss.... Chuck approves.
hot dogs have a numbers advantage in that people often buy 2 or more for themselves.
Hmmm... you could be right. Huh!
After you, friend. ;)
I've often thought that a couple squirrels could really mess you up if they wanted to. They always make me a little nervous. When I was in college (university as you guys call it), I used to carry sunflower seeds in my backpack just in case some squirrels came up to me. Didn't want them to be hangry.
Hmmm... I wonder if you were followed around by squirrels... because you had sunflower seeds in your backpack
I'm not positive... but I think that's the same ones that we got. :)
I would've guessed some sort of oil formation (petrol?) But clearly that isn't the case.
I had a similar thought.
so I looked up the definition of "Petro"
1. of rock; relating to rocks.
"petrography"
2.relating to petroleum.

"petrodollar"

I'd go with brontosaurus
Funny. That's what Fred and Barney said too!
I would have been tempted to buy one of everything just to try it all.

AND WHERE ARE THE FOOD PICS????
I took some... but decided to cut them out.
I already had tons... and it wasn't a dining report.

You're welcome.
Was it this grizzly story?
:lmao: No... but that would've been good too.
yeah -- that seems a little excessive. is it more than just replumbing it or did you lose something else?
It's like this.
pkondz goes to Home Depot.
pkondz: "I need a piece of 1.5" PVC pipe."
HD: "Sure. Here you go. 4' piece'll run you $6.95."
pkondz: "Great. Doing some pool repairs."

HD: "It's for a pool? Oh. In that case it's $348.95."
Wow! Congrats! That's a cool medal.
Thanks. :) I like it.
And sorry to hear about the injury -- hopefully you get/got better quickly.
Nope.
I didn't run for almost a month...
And now when I do, my distance is shortened because my hip gives out.
Also after a run, I have developed tendinitis in both heels and it's hard to walk after sitting or sleeping.

But... I need to keep in shape, so... I suffer through it and just do my best.
this is amazing.
It was pretty cool. :)
Ours was down a little -- but I wouldn't know for sure since I was at the Magic Kingdom for Halloween with the two youngest. Holy crap -- the line for Haunted Mansion extended all the way past the riverboat and almost got to the boat ramp for Tom Sawyer's island
I'd both love and hate to do Halloween at MK.
Love because... how freaking cool is that?
Hate because... well, you mentioned the line at HM.
Ended up walking around for a few hours and got the kids back to the Poly for dinner before passing out for the night.
Fun night, though?
I did not -- gave it a second look through and still didn't see anything. Will have to look again.
Not an easy one, but others have found it. ;)

Ahhh, nothing like a ponzi update!
Hi Dawn! :)
It is so good to hear you and your family are healthy!
We are. And you guys??
Love, as usual, the reporting on your trips!
Thanks. :)
This is true. I mean... It's not like you were out in large groups of mask-less people.
Glad you had a nice time. :)

When we did venture out it was our experience everyone was careful, socially distanced, and masked up. I carried Lysol and Clorox wipes and we basically stayed in our family bubble even while on "vacation." We spent a LOT of time relaxing, it was so nice.
Glad you felt safe. :)
We currently have semi-plans to go this coming June. They may change, but having something to look forward to is nice.
I'm envious. I can't plan that far ahead. At least not until the border opens and rules change.
I can't afford to go on a vacation and then basically vacation (self-isolate) for another 2 weeks after that.

Parks are in question still for us, I made the reservations just in case, but if the numbers don't look good or feel right, we will cancel.
Sounds like a plan.
Easier to cancel (if needed... and I sure hope it isn't) than to try to scramble at the last minute.

I love The Disboards, what a respite they have been when virus news, or politics, get me down. A little pixie dust and my happy place always helps!
That's kinda why... no, that is why I wrote an update.
I just thought of all my friends who might be feeling down and how could I help? Even if just a little tiny bit?
And here we are.

Well, hello there.
Long time no read.

So happy you're writing again.

2020 has not been a stellar year.
This may come as a shock to you.
🤯

Understatement of the century.

There is hope.

Yes there is, we just have to keep looking forward.

I took a familiarization flight in a Cessna
where I even got to take the controls.
I quickly learned that I can’t fly a plane at all
and it's a lot harder than I thought it would be.

Very cool.

Luckily, I have sous-chefs that
assist me in these endeavours.

They are precious..

I've been fortunate to remain employed
during the pandemic.
So I'm grateful for that.

Same here and I've very thankful.

And while traffic numbers are down, globally,
most of us had days where we were overwhelmed
due to excessive workload.

Sorry to hear this.

Well, I did go camping with my youngest DD, Kay.

Great way to get out and explore.

Eventually (just a few seconds, really)
the pig ambled off and she got out.

:lmao:

"Unsolved Mysteries".

I use to love this show. Can't say I've watched it in years.

We found our campsite and...
it was a wee bit on the boggy side.

Yuck! Too wet for me.

Doesn't that beach look inviting?

Yes it does.

And no camping trip would
be complete without a campfire.
And no campfire is complete
without S'mores.

True and true again.

Only on the return journey southward
did we find out that in actuality he was
required to sound his horn and that we
had the right of way!

Of course.

Definitely a fun and cool experience!
And I give full credit to Kay.
While I had heard of the tunnels,
it was her suggestion that we go.

Very cool. The photos of the trip are beautiful.

Also... when we waded out...
we each found we'd picked up
an unwanted passenger.
One leach each.

Sooooo gross.

Nope not for me at all. I think I would have screamed and passed out.

I did also find the time this year
to finally finish off our deck.

Very nice.

And another small project was
replacing the gate.
I think it turned out well enough.

Looks great!

I like the staging of this photo.

Later, I took a hike up a trail to
take in another panoramic view.

Beautiful!

mmmm… Want one?
Yes. Yes, you do.

Yes I do. I've never had one with a peanut butter cup added.

The first thing you see are the
remnants of gifts of fabric and tobacco
left by visitors to pay their respects
and honour the site.

Very nice.

The dresses have and are being
displayed in various locations in
Canada and the United States.
There were several located here.
It was both eerie and humbling.

I did not know about this. I will be looking now.

The petroforms themselves
were interesting and obviously
quite old, based on the amount
of moss that had formed on them
over the centuries.

Another very cool site.

The solution?
A worker, with a rope tied
around his waist (!) would
walk on the ice and chop it away.
How's that for a job?

Not for me.

Not quite what you'd expect from
a small town food truck!

Not at all.

So I did what any good father
(who had been disturbed from his rest)
would do...
I told her a story about a giant
Grizzly bear. I'm sure it helped.

Made me laugh, anyways.
I'm evil that way.

Yes, I think I would do the same thing. I once hid under the bed for 30 minutes so I could grabbed my younger sister's feet and scare her. I laughed soooo hard.

Also this year, I decided to
take up jogging.

I admire you so much for this.

We stuck with it, and eventually...

Congrats!

(Unfortunately, I got injured and while
I can still run 5K, I am not running 10Ks
like I was a few months ago.)

Oh no, what happened?

And the Van Gogh exhibition
came to Winnipeg.
I took my folks (and Kay)
to go see it.
It's a dynamic display of
his works that are constantly
changing as you watch.
The paintings are projected
on the walls and the floor.

Very cool!

Did you see it?

Not at first but I went back and looked again. I found him on the left.

So happy you're writing again.
Thanks!
But... that's it for now. No idea when I'll be writing again.
Heh... December 2021??
Understatement of the century.
Unfortunately...
Yes there is, we just have to keep looking forward.
Yes we do. There's still a ways to go. Possibly a long way...
But... keep looking forward.

Very cool.
::yes::
They are precious..
Yes they are. :)
We went to Starbucks (drive through) today and brought
them with us. The girl at the window took one look and
started "oohing" :)

She gave us a "pupaccino". (cup of whipped cream.)
Sorry to hear this.
Been a challenging year, for sure. For everyone. In many different ways.
Great way to get out and explore.
::yes::
I use to love this show. Can't say I've watched it in years.
I took a peek and it ended in 2010.
Pretty sure I stopped watching it in the 90s, though.

Yuck! Too wet for me.
Wasn't ideal.
But we didn't want to turn around and go home.
The rest of the couple days we were out there, it cleared up and dried up.
Very cool. The photos of the trip are beautiful.
Thanks! :)
Nope not for me at all. I think I would have screamed and passed out.
Well, Kay may have let out an involuntary squeal. ;)
Very nice.

Looks great!
Thanks! :)
I like the staging of this photo.
Thank you. :)
Beautiful!
We got some nice areas up here. :)
Yes I do. I've never had one with a peanut butter cup added.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of it, but...
I did have the thought and... couldn't think of a reason not to,

I did not know about this. I will be looking now.
It's both humbling... and troubling.
Not for me.
Me neither.
Yes, I think I would do the same thing. I once hid under the bed for 30 minutes so I could grabbed my younger sister's feet and scare her. I laughed soooo hard.
:lmao: :rotfl:
I admire you so much for this.
Thanks!
Although you spelled "think you're crazy" as "admire you". Odd typo.

Congrats!
Thanks! We were both pretty stoked to do it and get the medals. :)
Oh no, what happened?
I over extended myself.
I was running 10-12K and figured I was ready to do a half marathon (21K)...
I wasn't.
At around 14K, I started to really struggle. I pushed it to 15K and then... my body didn't give me an option, but just stopped.

Basically, my hip kinda... stopped working. It still bothers me, but... at least I can move now. I wasn't able to run for several weeks.
Not at first but I went back and looked again. I found him on the left.
::yes:: :thumbsup2
