Confused about dining...

Is formal night the same night for everyone on the ship no matter which dining rotation you have?

For example, you could have your formal night at Parrot Cay, while someone else has theirs at Triton's?

Another question- if we do not want to eat at our rotation one night, is our only option quick service, or is the buffet always available?

Yes. some people like to request specific rotations for this reason because they want to eat in a place with a "fancier" ambience...but it really doesn't matter :)

The buffet is always available, and will be a sit-down experience for dinner with selected items from each of the MDR menus.

Formal night is on the same night for everyone, no matter what restaurant you are in that night, it will be dress-up.

The buffet restaurant (serving sit-down meals at dinner) isn't available on the first night or (I think) last night. On those nights you are limited to quick service and room service if you would like to skip your MDR.

As PP noted, the buffet is a sit-down table service for dinner. With selected items from the other menus available that evening in the MDRs. Plus a salad bar/carving station. You can dine there anytime they are open for dinner, not just at "your" seating time. Also, there is room service 24/7.

The "buffet" restaurant that becomes sit-down dinner with servers is not available on the first or last night of the cruise. So on those nights if one wants to skip the main dining room assignment, the options are quick service, room service, or getting into one of the adult upcharge restaurants.

Please don't feel you need to get dressed up for formal night. As long as your outfit isn't a swimsuit, you have shoes on your feet and your clothing covers your swimsuit area (had to add that after our last cruise :( ) you are good to eat in the dining room. Trust me - people come to dinner in various types of clothing no matter what the requested dress code for the evening.
