when we go next year i want to play on a table as i've never done this before.I like the look of Craps as it looks sociable and fun.I've started reading up on the rules but i have a question.
If i put a bet on 'Don't Pass' and the dice come up as say an 8,can i then place a bet in the 'Come' box?

yes you can. there are no rule's as to whether you have to bet a certain way because of which line your chips are on.

also nearly every casino will have a lesson session mid morning. if the hotel your in doesn't offer that, just go play earlier in the day and the people working the game have a lot more time to answer your questions about how things work and the people tend to be less serious about the co-players game play/etiquette.

Betting Don't Pass/Don't Come is generally considered bad mojo. Usually players that bet that way will keep to themselves/be ignored by other players. It is absolutely fine to bet that way (in fact I think there is a very slight advantage to betting that way), just know it can be a downer at a rowdy table when you got some guy basically betting against everyone else. This will depend heavily on the level of superstition among the players.

Craps is fun, but it is really easy to lose a lot of money really quick. :)

Actually the dealers don't mind if you ask questions if you're unsure. They're more than happy to help. There's a lot to remember/know with craps and it's easy to forget. I have been playing for almost 2 years now and still can't remember the proper amount of money to put down to get a proper payout sometimes. Sometimes the other players will give you advice too if they're knowledgeable(i.e. not just some punk kid on his 21st birthday trip to Vegas, haha).

I'm one of those "dark side" players. I've made a TON of money off of betting dark side, but I've also lost a TON of money playing dark side. It's a whole different strategy to it than playing right side and it's a bit more confusing too. I would just stick to right side bets and you'll be fine. Just remember, no matter what you do, the house ALWAYS has an advantage. The longer you play the more likely you are to lose. Set your win goals and loss limits and walk away when you hit them. Too many people don't do that and wind up losing big time because they keep dipping into their wallet for more money.

There are websites you can practice playing online for free. I did that when I wanted to learn to play before a Vegas trip. I think I started here. . .

Also, Casino Royale has good, low minimum, craps. They have 2 tables and it was $1 minimum way back when I played there, but I think it's $3 now. Still the lowest you are going to find on the strip. It was a lot of fun, and they are liberal with the drinks. . or they were.

Good luck!
