Actually the dealers don't mind if you ask questions if you're unsure. They're more than happy to help. There's a lot to remember/know with craps and it's easy to forget. I have been playing for almost 2 years now and still can't remember the proper amount of money to put down to get a proper payout sometimes. Sometimes the other players will give you advice too if they're knowledgeable(i.e. not just some punk kid on his 21st birthday trip to Vegas, haha).
I'm one of those "dark side" players. I've made a TON of money off of betting dark side, but I've also lost a TON of money playing dark side. It's a whole different strategy to it than playing right side and it's a bit more confusing too. I would just stick to right side bets and you'll be fine. Just remember, no matter what you do, the house ALWAYS has an advantage. The longer you play the more likely you are to lose. Set your win goals and loss limits and walk away when you hit them. Too many people don't do that and wind up losing big time because they keep dipping into their wallet for more money.
