Episode XIII: Attack of the Food Thief
We were all moving a little slowly the next morning and enjoyed some time in the room before heading to the parks.. I had my mind set on the School Bread I’d picked up the day before, but someone else had other plans for it.
When we finally left the room it was clear the heat of the week was getting to us as Casey walked out without shoes on and I hadn’t rubbed the lotion into my legs. Thankfully Jason realized both of these things before we got too far from the room.
Shoes on and lotion rubbed in we made our way via boat to MGM as we had a date with a ride with the best acronym ever, if only we could use it.
I was pretty disappointed in this one as it really didn’t do much and I expected it to last much longer than it actually did. I guess you could say it sucked AS2.
Since only one of us had breakfast Jason and I decided to pop into Woodys Lunchbox to try the Chocolate Hazelnut Lunch Box Tart. And in typical School Bread form ….
I was able to get a bite or two and I was surprised at how good it was. The “tart” had a great pie crust like taste and the hazelnut filling was distinctly nutella like. The bacon added a nice crunch, but sadly no actual flavor to the mix.
From there we hung out with a pig and a frog and flew through the skies with a bunch of even stranger looking animals, before it was time to eat again!
I’d booked a day of reservation at Jason’s favorite SciFi. I’m much more of a 50’s girl, but to get him there is more trouble than its worth.
To drink I got a Napa Smith Red Ale. I have no idea why I ordered this (maybe to ensure Casey wouldn't drink it) as it was a hoppy and malty beer that wasn’t my style at all.
This of course did not preclude me from drinking it all…..And then ordering a Bud Light.
Jason also got a Napa Smith Beer, the Hopageddon Imperial IPA.
And the best order of the bunch was Casey who got their special Pineapple Shake.
This taste like a really thick dole whip and was delicious. It just needed a wee bit of rum.
Casey decided she just wanted to “share” with me, but I also ordered her some Chicken Noodle Soup to ensure I actually got to eat.
To share we went with something off the appetizer menu: The Sci Fi Appetizer Sampler with Boneless Buffalo Tenders, Shrimp and Crab Fondue, House-made Tortilla Chips, and Fried Dill Pickles served with Horseradish and Blue Cheese Dipping Sauces
The buffalo tenders were nice and spicy, but otherwise unremarkable. But I love anything buffalo so I was a happy girl. I was a bit skeptical about the seafood fondue, but it had a great cheese flavor with just a hint of crab and shrimp so it wasn’t overwhelming. My favorite though was the fried pickle, because when you take an already perfect food and fry it nothing but good things can happen.
Speaking of good things Jason got the Smoked Prime Rib Sandwich which is Pastrami-style Smoked Prime Rib served on grilled marble rye bread with grain mustard coleslaw, caramelized onions and Swiss cheese.
This was very much like a Rueben but so much better. The prime rib certainly added a complexity you don’t usually get from corned beef and the mustard slaw added both tartness and acidity that really made it great. Jason proclaimed this the best sandwich he’s ever had at SciFi which guarantees it will be 2050 before I get back to 50’s.
I know SciFi doesn’t get a ton of love, but we always enjoy our experiences here and while the food will never blow you away it will at least transport you to another decade or planet.
After lunch we had some time to kill before our FP for Toy Story Mania and with so little to do in the park we decided to wait in line so we could ride twice.
This was our first time experiencing the queue and even Casey enjoyed experiencing it.
When we exited it was time for our FP, but unfortunately it was pouring!!!! We figured it wouldn’t be too far to get to the entrance and we could avoid getting too wet.
We were wrong.
After a second spin through Andy’s room and now soaked we decided to head out. We waited for a boat for over 20 minutes before deciding to walk. And as we walked through the war zone that is the bus stop we saw this little gem.
Now why put this at the bus stop and not at the boat launch is beyond me. And in another case of Murphy’s law two boats passed us as we walked back!
Up next, an amazing birthday surprise.
