Disney's CONTEMPORARY RESORT Information & Questions

Note that the Bay Lake Pool is NOT the BLT feature pool, it’s the “bullseye” pool. BLT’s pool is called the Bay Cove Pool so may be causing confusion given similar names. I personally doubt they will let CR guests use BLTs pool during CR’s feature pool closure. It’s probably one of the reasons this refurb was announced with a crazy long lead time (which I think goes back to when CR was first bookable for those dates) - CR guests just aren’t going to have a feature pool option during that time, unfortunately.

Thanks for you reply. One thing I was worried about—your email & the Disney website both mention that we can use the Bay Lake pool, but I’m pretty sure that is NOT the pool at Bay Lake Tower (I thought that one was called the Cove pool). I hope I’m wrong bc it seems pretty bad to leave all the people at the CR with only that little “Bullseye” pool.
You’re right! The devil’s in the details. I mistakenly thought the Bay Lake and Bay Cove were the same pool. Whoops!! So yes, that tiny Lake pool and the splash pad will be all we can use.

Very confusing for myself, a first timer at CR! I booked already knowing of the pool closure, but the email was a nice touch. I imagine the confusion over the similar names will be a headache for cast members during this reno.

Unfortunately, I think you are right. Makes me sad bc I wanted to try CR CL, but during my next chance to go over the summer CL seems to be unavailable (likely due to GF refurb). Thanks for confirming my suspicions about the pool.

I agree the similar names are bound to be very confusing.

If wanting to take the monorail to Epcot for rope drop, what time is the monorail currently starting to run? Early entry is at 8:30am on our day, and we'd like to get there as early as possible. What time should we get to the hotel monorail station? TIA!

Would anyone staying at Contemporary do me a huge favor? I am trying to find out if they are having Christmas services in the convention center like years past (pre-covid). I'm planning to go offsite because the info I get is: half yes (per plan Disney site) and "no" per Chat CM.

I am going to call the convention number Monday or Tuesday, but if anyone sees a sign I would appreciate it! Thanks so much.

Had a pretty good stay at Bay Lake Tower the first week on December. I love this resort, it's without doubt my happy place. There were a couple disappointments though that I just want to share to let them go.

I have long regarded the Contempo Cafe as one of the best quick service options available. There was a time when they offered creative flatbreads (mongolian beef with arugala and goat cheese how I miss thee), amazing blackened mahi mahi sandwiches, pasta dishes, wonderful looking deserts, and my favorite, the best cheese danishes not just at wdw, but anywhere in the world. They slowly started simplifying the menu over time, the first to go was my much missed flatbread in favor of the more basic all meat, bbq chicken, pepporoni, or cheese. But as I sense myself starting to ramble, let me get to the point of this last stay. All ingenuity in cuisine has complete left this location. There is no longer anything separating this once great location from the food court at the All Star Resorts. The amazing cheese danishes? Gone. Now all they offer are the same individually wrapped breakfast pastries served everywhere. A drier than drift wood cinnamon roll, an average blueberry muffin tasting like any other store bought muffin, just overpriced blandness. The lunch and dinner menu all but demolished. There was only 1 flatbread being offered. No Mahi Mahi sandwiches, no pasta dishes. You could order a spicy chicken sandwich, a burger, or the 1 flatbread. House chips also seemed to be a thing of the past, all I was offered as my side was french fries or apple slices. I do not want to hear it's because of Covid, Florida was the first state to stop any special Covid rules, and WDW was busier than any other time I've seen it. The only excuse is penny pinching, getting the same cheap bland food from a wholesale distributor, marking it up to cosmic Disney prices, and trying to tell me I should enjoy how wonderfully pathetic my meal was.

Deep breath..... Next rant.... The top of the world lounge, aka the villians lair. People may roll their eyes at me for this one, but if you were sold one thing and then had the salesmen change the terms of the sale after you could no longer do anything about it, you'd probaly be pissed too. I bought into DVC just a few months after Bay Lake Tower opened it's doors. The Contemporary was always my dream resort, and during my 2nd actual stay, BLT was too good to pass up. Part of the sales pitch was the top of the world lounge. It was sold to me as the lounge only being available to owners at BLT who were staying at BLT using their points. And this was true for the first2-3 years of my contract. What was wonderful for me was not so wonderful for the staff as I routinely had the entire lounge to myself. So the rules were eased, and any dvc member staying at BLT on points were allowed to visit, followed shortly by any dvc member staying anywhere on property. It brought life to the lounge, and the staff were finally making a living getting the tips they deserved. Not that I didn't tip, but tips from 100 people are better than from1 person. This year, we invited some local friends over for appetizers and drinks. We went to go to the lounge, and were told we had to go on a waitlist for over 2 hours. I uderstand many may not agree with this, but I think owners at BLT staying at BLT on their points should be moved to the top of any wait list. This is not a fast pass/lightning lane mentality. I only say this because exclusive access to the lounge was a prominent point of the sales pitch when Disney sold us. Of course there was fine print that benefits can change on Disneys whim, and they certainly have. They can still keep the lounge open to all DVC guests, but give the owners who were sold exclusive rights to the lounge only to have them taken away atleast preference on the waitlist. And to be honest, the majority of guests up there on any given night are from other resorts. It would not be a huge setback for those waiting to get up. Take it from one who enjoyed those nights having the lounge to himself, or simply strike up some conservations your next trip up and ask which resort they are staying at.

Hey all, was just wondering if anyone has any recent experience with rope dropping MK via the walking path. Specifically, do you know what time the security checkpoint will start processing people through to be able to get in line at the turnstiles for Early Entry? I've searched this thread and see a few responses, but they're from awhile ago so I don't want to make any assumptions if things have changed.

It varies as to what time the MK is scheduled for Guest Early Entry / Park Open. What are the Park hours for the MK when you plan to visit?

Dave

Security processing varies based on the park hours? Forgive me, that's not something I've heard before. The general rule of thumb I've followed is that transportation starts 60 - 90 minutes before Early Entry begins, but that range isn't affected by whether or not something like AK opens at 7am vs 8am so I also assumed Security would similarly follow suit. The park calendar isn't updated yet with hours, unfortunately, but it'll be over the Summer. Based on my experience this past June, MK will likely be open for Early Entry at 8:30am.

Hey friends! Does Anyone know where I can find the hours for the pools? I’m here now and can’t find anything online- I don’t want to suit up kids and walk down for it to be closed. :)
thanks!

Can someone tell me what the main difference is between Atrium Club Level and Standard Club level? We booked Standard because it allowed us to specifically book a King bed.

Is there a separate Club Level lounge? If so, are you free to use the Atrium lounge as well?

Thanks!

That “Standard Club Level” King room is the Tower Club/14th floor. The 14th floor is mostly suites with just a few standard rooms (there are only two of the King rooms, both face MK). The 14th floor rooms have an Indcredibles based design but look nothing like the rest of the building and the 14th floor doesn’t look down on the Atrium below. In a-lot of ways it’s like staying in a different hotel.

The 14th floor has its own lounge and you don’t have access to the Atrium Club floor. Offerings are similar except they usually also have sushi offerings on 14. 14 is usually pretty quiet but can get busy if the suites have large guest count parties in them.

It’s a real treat, highly recommend.

Great, thanks! We put in a room request for Magic Kingdom view, guess it wasn't necessary.

Sure would be nice if there was a BOAT here to take get to WL for a yummy dinner at Geyser Point on this lovely evening. 😡

I am usually one to roll with Disney changes but this one annoys me to no end.

If I’m not mistaken, they took down all signage of the route on the Wilderness Lodge dock. So I’m assuming it won’t return any time soon.

This is so depressing! It was such a peaceful loop and I have years of memories visiting the resorts, laughing after HDDR, and singing Brandy with the boat captain. 😭
