my wife, unbeknownst to me, said yes to my sister in law of going on a disney cruise with the whole of their family in a few months. generally we have just gone on RCCL. On those ships we always had a nice quiet place we could go to and sit and have coffee drinks, watch people and enjoy the scenery. Plus there were clubs and the casinos and shows we went to each night. the questions i have regarding disney are:
* is there anything adults can do there; ie; could we find that nice secluded spot for coffee, away from alice, the mad hatter and every other character?
* are the shows all the same type of stuff you get at the parks,
* they said they show first run movies; is it just disney movies?
* if i am forced to just stay in the stateroom, does the tv have oh, lets say, CNN, or ESPN, or movie channels that show movies that actually may have a PG or R rating?

any advice would be appreciated.

We just got off our first Disney Cruise and it was AMAZING! I booked our trip in February for our honeymoon. There are quite a few spots on the boat that are adult only (18+). I was surprised about how quiet these areas were since they are kid-free. The shows are Disney shows complete with singing and dancing, but not the same shows as in the parks. In your stateroom you have a access to CNN and ESPN as well as on-demand movies. You can watch any disney movie ever made or current releases. Disney does have movie theater on board, but they show mostly kid appropriate movies (Frozen, Malificent, Million Dollar Arm, and Planes: Fire and Rescue), since it is free to anyone on board. Alcohol is ever abundant, but it does cost extra. Food is EVERYWHERE! You will not go hungry. The staff is awesome and we had so much fun on our adult cruise with disney!

My husband and I went on our first Disney cruise last summer. Were a little hesitant because while I love our grandchildren, I'm not nearly as tolerant of other peoples' kids. LOL. The adult-only area in the back of the ship is wonderful. The shows are Disney oriented but they're still good. No casino. BUT you can take your own alcohol onboard. I think you'll love it. We did and are going again September 6.

This will be my 5th DCL trip (9/27/2014). All but the 2nd trip have been without children. No casino, but the adults only venues are wonderful. Palo and Remy are worth the surcharge (especially the brunch), I enjoy the coffee bar and adults seminars. While the shows are Disney oriented (it is a Disney ship) they are nicely done. I am not a TV watcher so can't help you there. I enjoy vacations with the little ones, however Disney has placed an effort to meet the needs of just adult as well, and has done an excellent job. Hope you enjoy your trip
