Found out why my Switch was so cheap

Do you need one? I never use mine. Just plug leads directly into the Switch.

Just an fyi (I used to work for Nintendo), if you use a non Nintendo accessory, it will void your warranty and you will be responsible for the cost of repairs or replacement.

Yes, and be careful with the third-party docks - some of them were known to cause issues early on. They may be better now, but just be aware.

Oh yeah, if it's a Lite it can't be docked at all.

Regular. I've ordered an official dock at a premium - you can get cheaper generic ones but as you've said, they invalidate the warranty.

I didn't even know they sold them without a dock.

They don't. I got it cheap on eBay. That's why it was lacking bits and why it was so cheap.
