Fun with Dick and Kaz - A Cruisin' Trip Report... COMPLETED

Love the Man Bag and all the essentials ;) A great mexican adventure....

I was looking forward to seeing your fetching Pirates Night outfits too :)

Loving, loving loving it Karen, wonderful trip report and cant wait for the renewel day. Just brilliant:goodvibes

Mandy: The Pirate's Night photo was bought onboard by another couple of our table - Bob's offered to send me a copy but as I misunderstood his email (honestly, for a brunette I have a lot of blonde moments...) I've yet to confirm that with him. I'm emailing him later and hope to be able to add the photo soon. :thumbsup2

There'll be a little delay for the Vow Renewal episode. I've gotta scan the ceremony photos in and mess around with them in Photoshop. I also want to take my time writing it up so I don't forget any of the details and do it justice... :cloud9:

OK Karen, I'm just going to sulk till your report is ready :sad1: :rotfl2:

I'm sure it'll be worth the wait :thumbsup2

Keep up the good work

Mandy :)

Another wonderful day. I can't believe you saw an iguana, you are so lucky! He is gorgeous and the trip sounded really nice. Looking forward to seeing your pirates night outfits in due course, and especially looking forward to hearing about your vow renewal.

Not just one, Laur's - we saw at least 20 and they were casually roaming around EVERYWHERE! I simply couldn't believe it when we first spotted them - it was brilliant (I love all forms of wildlife) and an unexpected bonus as we had no idea they'd be there... :cloud9:

I've added the Pirate Night photo now... pirate:

Sounds like another great day - what a fantastic place to visit.

Can't wait for your Vow Renewal

Wow, now I am really impressed! And highly jealous - I adore lizards.

Daylight come and I wanna go home! DH whipped open the curtains to reveal a gorgeous cloudless blue sky but, instead of revelling in the change of weather, I groaned, turned over and buried my face into the pillow. The day of the Vow Renewal had dawned and all those feelings of excitement and anticipation I had been holding in check for the past few months had evaporated into anxiety and distress. Not a good start. Richard raced off to do the Breakfast Boogie and I got out of bed determined to shake of my bad mood. Smoked salmon and scrambled egg didn't help - I just couldn't lose the blues or turn my frown upside down. Trouble was I had a secret fear that needed confronting before I could even think of starting the day proper. After almost a weak-willed week of four course dinners and anniversary cake, all the calories had come back to condemn me as I was now terrified that my dress wouldn't fit! And if that proved to be true then where would we be? Exchanging vows in our matching bathrobes, that's where! I knew I had to exorcise the demons so ordered DH out of the way so I could face the truth! I shook the dress from the hanger, took a deep breath and stepped in to the turquoise silk skirt before reaching for the zip - no turning back now...

Of course it was fine - goodness knows what I was getting sooo strung out about!?!! Honestly, I really annoy myself sometimes but there you are! After checking the fit and being pleasantly surprised (or should I say deliriously ecstatic), I put it back in the wardrobe and joined my DH on the verandah where he stood nursing a coffee and looking out to sea. I passed on my good news and he gave me a cuddle! He said he'd never doubted that the dress would be OK but remained confident we would have been able to find outfits (matching or otherwise) in the Treasure Ketch should the worst have happened. You see!? This guy's glass is always half full and I love, love, love that about him!!!

So on with the day! We didn't have any specific plans - apart from a hair appointment at 3pm, the major event scheduled for 5.30pm and then Palo's at 8.30pm, we were pretty relaxed so spent most of the morning lounging on the sunbeds on the spacious verandah. Today was the first day we'd really felt like we were in the Caribbean and the weather was gorgeous! DH had a little snooze and I read my book - we were very chilled... Before too long it was lunchtime and we headed on up to Topsiders to take advantage of their buffet. I really enjoyed the food they had on offer here and there were such a range of options I don't think anyone would go hungry...

After lunch we headed back to the Promenade Lounge for the final game of Scrabble in the GSWSC of 2007! I had my first (but absolutely not my last) sip of champagne of the day and let the battle commence! It wasn't one of our better games but the scores were respectable and given our preoccupation we did well. I won by a narrow margin which made me overall tournament champion! I acknowledged my victory with grace, dignity and the obligatory jog around Deck 4 with my top pulled over my head! But time to move on... We checked in at the suite to take delivery of the Cala lily bouquet and DH's matching buttonhole - they looked absolutely beautiful. So stylish and elegant - so different from the the flowers I'd carried first time around...

Somehow 3 o clock was upon me and time to set off to the Vista Spa for my hair appointment. I'd already taken an opportunity to meet up with stylist earlier in the cruise so we could discuss my options. As my hair has given me an enormous amount of grief recently, I was rather doubtful that she could achieve much. Let me explain. Up until recently, my hair has always been fine but thick. It has a natural curl (much beloved by hairdressers who regularly take the opportunity to turn me into Shirley Temple) and without layering, I have the tendency to resemble Crystal Tips... Anyway, that all changed over the summer when my hair started to fall out. As you can imagine that was very distressing and, after copious blood tests and consultations, it was decided that the harsh drugs I had been taking for psoriasis were to blame. Possibly. So I was stuck between rock and a hard place. My skin had reacted favourably to the drugs but a girl needs her hair. I stopped taking the medication shortly before the cruise and crossed my fingers that my hair would find a way to stay on my head. Anyway, back to the hair appointment. I desperately wanted what Americans pithily call an "up-do" and my stylist confirmed she could do just that. So there I sat, nervously watching in the mirror as she back-combed my hair to within an inch of it's life before pinning it into a French Roll. To tell the truth, I was a little disappointed as it looked somewhat severe - more book-keeper than bridal. With hindsight I should have brought a picture of what I wanted but that never occurred to me and I crossed my fingers that with some judicious 'mussing' it would look OK...

Time to retreat to the suite and do my nails and make-up. Unfortunately I didn't have my KTTK so just hoped DH would be in situ. He wasn't and I stood outside 8602 debating what to do. I seemed to remember he'd mentioned checking out the final Art Auction at Sea so I hurried down to Deck 4, looked from the balcony into the Lobby and sure enough, there he sat in the front row, sipping yet another free martini. I tried attracting his attention to no avail and was just about to go down to the Lobby when I heard Jackie, the auctioneer, announce the next lot. Now throughout the week, my DH had admired a particular Picasso etching and I knew he'd discussed it with the auctioneer on more than one occasion. So I instinctively sensed something was afoot when I heard the artist's name and saw the etching being mounted on the easel. Jackie was doing her best bit of patter about the artist and the artwork, then suddenly the auction started. With one smooth movement, and without spilling his martini, DH raised his auction number and bought the Picasso - just like that! Jackie shook his hand and he received a round of applause from the other participants. And me! I leant against the balustrade, looked down at my crazy DH and marvelled at the man's ability to surprise me after 25 years - from where I stood he definitely deserved a round of applause...

But the time was ticking by and I needed to get back to that room! He still hadn't seen me so I ventured down into the Lobby/Auction Room and grabbed his arm. We headed back up to Deck 8 without so much as half a wheeze - it's amazing what a difference almost a week makes. After so much auction action, DH needed a shower so I spent several minutes putting a special OPI shimmery top coat over my 'everlasting' polish - despite my limited dexterity, it looked good. Very wedding-y and most definitely vow renewal-esque...

I put on my make-up carefully, dressed, stepped into my Manolos, added jewellery for the final touches and draped a shawl around my shoulders. Not too bad! DH got suited and booted - he looked so lovely as he adjusted his new heart-shaped cufflinks, I couldn't wait to get on with the show! At 5.20pm, and with his buttonhole securely in place, he gave me a last hug and left 8602 to make his way down to the "secret" area of Deck 7 where our ceremony was due to take place. I anxiously paced the suite for 5 minutes until Jonathan, the concierge, arrived to escort me to the ceremony. I was finally ready for my close-up...

Stay tuned for Part 2...

Arghhhh Karen you cant leave us in suspense like that :lmao: Cant wait for the next part :goodvibes

OMG NOOOO!!!! Let me paint you a picture... It's 1982; we're 19; DH weighed about 9 stone; I weighed about 12 stone; I was 6 months pregnant; the dress was from the maternity section of C&A; I had a dodgy perm and highlights... I could go on but there's only so much therapy I'm prepared to go through! :scared:
