Has anyone tried this?

Ok, has anyone tried exchanging the adult messenger bag that comes in the welcome box and asking for another jr. adventurer one instead?

I am pretty short (I used to be able to say "tiny" but not so much anymore;) ) and the big black behemoth just overwhelms me. DD's cute, adorable, oh-so-functional backpack is a perfect fit. I WANT THAT ONE!

Do you think I could call ABD and ask or would they laugh at me?

I didn't know the kids get something different. I'm still waiting on mine. So is it a backpack instead of a messenger bag?

Well, the kid one is a backpack that just has one chest-crossing strap, like a messenger bag. Kind of a combo. But it rests on the back, not across your hip. Plus has super cute colors, and a compartment for all sorts of stuff, a place to thread your ipod phones through, etc. DD loves it and has been taking it to school (also, this prevents me from stealing it when she's not here)

And the answer is......probably no:sad2:

Spoke w/Patricia and she said they get this request, but try to keep the Jr. Adventurer packs just for the kids. She made it sound like it is one way they keep track of the kids on the tour. (Can anyone who's done an ABD confirm this?)

Still, there is apparently a specialist for each trip, and Tina-the-Peru-Specialist is on vacay this week. I was encouraged to call her back and see if her "greater authority" could help get me a kids pack.

I'm not holding my breath. I will call back though, as I also had other questions that could only be answered by Tina.

Patricia did tell me, in all seriousness, that I am not required to carry the messenger bag on the tour. So glad to know that I qualify just on the basis of the thousands of dollars we are spending and not by my choice of carryon!

:rotfl:

I also noticed with some annoyance that you can purchase t-shirts... seems like they could throw in a t-shirt, for all the money we are spending!

I'm a little surprised that they refused to send you one. I'm also a little surprised that there's not an ABD store where you can buy their merchandise. Does anyone know if there is such a store anywhere? These packs sound great.

There is an on-line store for ABD merchandise off the main web page. HOWEVER, the items do NOT go on-sale with the other Disney sites.

We got our box yesterday. Were a bit disappointed in that we received only 1 kids backpack. Apparently, they only send out the kids version to those 11 and younger. I got the impression when I spoke with someone today, that they might have considered sending us 2 kids ones if I had asked before they had sent the box, but since it was already mailed, they couldn't exchange them.

The ones for the "adults" aren't nearly as cute. I doubt that I'll use it. I'll probably just get a new backpack.

So, if you want a kid's backpack for your child who is 12 or more, call them before you get your box. I don't know if they'd accomodate you, but your chances would be better than waiting and then asking to exchange them.

I checked the site where you can purchase ABD merchandise, and they do not sell the pack that comes in the box.

Can anyone share a photo of the kids backpack and the adult backpack?

I don't have a photo - but among other things, the kids' backpack is black with nice, colorful blue and green trim, while the adult bag is a dark gray-black and is rather drab looking.

They sent us 2 messenger bags and 2 backpacks. We are doing back to back tours and did not want two of the same. We just sent them an e-mail from the web site to request them. Here the are:

I will say that the kids' backpack is not so sturdy. DD loves it and used it at school before the trip. The lining ripped out from the front flap, and several places frayed. I am a seamstress, so no problem to fix and reinforce, but still, for a $10,000 backpack..... :upsidedow

I tried in June prior to my Backstage Magic Tour and was told "NO" to exchanging those horrible messanger bags for a kids backpack.

I was told alot of people are complaining about them.
So keep complaining and maybe they will go back to the backpacks for the Adults.

I gave my messenger bags to my ABD guides.

I also asked about exchanging the messenger bag for a backpack, but was told no. But I had already received it. Didn't know what they looked like ahead of time, back in May. I do not think I will ever use it. It's bulky and heavy and just not a useful thing at all. I never even considered taking it on the tour with me.
