Hotel strike at Disney World

For the first time in years, there's a strike affecting the tourisim industry in Orlando, Florida.

Hundreds of workers walked off the job today at two hotels on the Walt Disney World property.

The housekeepers, laundry workers and others at the Swan and Dolphin hotels are affiliated with the Teamsters. They're picketing today outside the hotels.

Last week, the workers rejected for a second time a three-year contract that would cover 400 of the two-thousand workers at the two hotels.

Management said it would put the contract into effect anyway.

Although the hotels are on Disney property, they are owned by Tishman Hotel Corporation.

Would you cross a picket line?

... we stayed at the Dolphin and when we drove out on the 28th at about 1.30pm, there were only about a dozen workers, a few with placards and they seemed to be in jovial mood and not a very threatening or large group. The resort was bringing in outside staff so that the guests are unaffected.
A word of praise for the staff at this resort - I found them all to be very courteous and very efficient!
