Hey everyone, I know some of you have been waiting and waiting to tell you how it happened and I apologize for the wait. So, here it is:
After September 11, almost all of us know that Disney had cancelled E-Nights temporarily. That really put me in a state of panic because I had planned on proposing to Piglet203 during an E-Night in front of Cinderella's Castle(she had mentioned in a post that she would like to have it done that way). Well, I wrote to Disney saying that I understood the reasons for the cancellations but that it would be a good idea to reinstate them in the future so that somebody else might have the opportunity to do what I had wanted to do, not to mention that E-Nights are a nice perk for Disney Resort guests.
Well, sometime in January or February, I got a call from a Disney executive who expalined to me about the reasons for the cancellations and who offered some other suggestions for proposing. Some were very good, but most were Engagement Packages that cost money, which I was willing to do, but if I could come up with something better for free, obviously, I am going to do that.
I had thought and thought and thought and could not come up with a a definitive time or place within WDW to propose, that was, until I got a phone call in late March. A man named Howard had called and left a message saying that he would like to make my trip to WDW more memorable than it already would be. When I called him back, he said he was the stage manager for Beauty and the Beast at Disney-MGM Studios and that the e-mail that I had written to the company a few months earlier had made it's way around and he had received a copy of it. Knowing that I wished to propose to Piglet203, he offered me the chance to propose to her before one of the shows during our stay. Of course, I said yes. His concern was whether or not she would say yes, to which I replied with confident assurance.
All this time I had been telling Piglet203 that I would propose to her by the end of the year, but it would not be until after our vacation, due to all of the expenses. After speaking to Howard a few more times, it was decided that May 26, at the 2:30 show would be the big moment.
As the day got more and more close, I got excited more and more. I like attention, so I wasn't thinking about being nervous. I just wanted make sure what I said didn't sound like I was babbling. We got to MGM around 9:30 A.M. (after the best breakfast I have ever had at Chef Mickey's). Piglet203 wanted to see the 12:00 Beauty and the Beast show and I had to tell her that we had VIP seats for the 2:30 show. When she asked how I managed to do that I told her that I wrote the company saying that due to the cutbacks, a lot of the romance would be absent from our vacation. I told her someone called from Disney and offered the best thing that they could offer, VIP seats to any show at any of the 4 theme parks.
We arrived to the thater around 2:00 and we met Howard almost immediately. He escorted us to the front row, where we had the whole row to ourselves. around 2:10, four acapella singers came out and sang a couple of songs. They were great. I knew the moment was about to happen. After the third song, They had siad since it was the 100th Year Celebration they like to make it magical for someone every now and then and that Carey(Piglet203) and I were chosen today. We went up there and I had to act like I was surprised, which I think I did a great job at doing. The singers said they would like to sing us a song but before they did they knew that I had something to say. Here is exactly what I said:
"Hi everybody. I don't get to do this everyday. We all know that Belle is the Princess in this show, but I would like for Carey to be the Princess in my life."
I handed one of the singers the microphone and looked at Carey and asked her to be my wife. She said yes and the crowd cheered.
The show was great and afterward, a lot of people came up to us and congratulated us. Howard got us VIP passes for the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular.
It was a great day(the greatest!) and I'm thanful for being given the opportunity to do so and thankful for the overwhelming support here at the DISboards. I'm sorry that it took as long as it has to report it. I hope you enjoyed reading about it.
Oh yeah, we're getting married at the Wedding Pavilion in July 2004!
