Is it safe to compost a Pointsettia?

I know they are poisonous. It seems a shame to just throw it out in the trash. Yes, it still has some red flowers, but it's past its prime.

Not terribly toxic, those poinsettias. The sap is an irritant, which is why you don't let your kitties eat them...causes digestive upset. So that means they should be safe to compost.

Thank you...tomorrow is trash day, and I was going to have to resort to that...I've been thinking about it, and I think that I have seen old pointsettias on piles at various garden markets through the years, but I just wasn't sure. In the past, I've simply thrown them.
