Lanai vs cabana at Aulani

We are a family of 5 who will be traveling to Aulani for Christmas. I've read mixed reports on the cabanas. With kids ages 15, 13 and 8, what would you choose? We figure that we will spend most of Christmas Day at the pool and ocean so having a home base would be nice.
TIA!

Obviously depends on preference. Haven't used cabana but seen them. They are nice to have a dedicated shaded space with fan and tv but the room to pool distance is only a few minutes. I've used them at other resorts for $100 and thought it was worth the money for the shade and convenience.

I think they are about $275 or more. Not sure it is worth the price. Suggest you get to pool early to get chairs in the shade. We have been to aulani twice and going again in 3 weeks. I always get to pool early to stake out chairs. Never a problem.

The Ama Ama Lanai appears to have more space and seating, but you don't have the electronics (ceiling fan, refrigerator, TV), and I believe you do not get the afternoon dessert tray. The Lanai is $275 a day plus tax. The cabana is $325 a day plus tax. You get a 10% discount if you are DVC or a CM.

If you haven't seen these already...here is a good thread about the Lanai: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3212158
