Our first DVC purchase at BCV cleared and our family is looking forward to the first stay this year! Yay!
Unfortunately, I was hoping to secure a 2 bedroom at our home resort during the wine & dine half marathon, but all of the units at BCV booked before our contract closed. I know the wine & dine marathon weekend is the busiest in all of the DVC bookings, but given that it still had availability after the 11-month mark and we were pursuing 2br at our home resort, I was hoping against hope that we could beat the clock. But, alas... (Yes, we'll absolutely book at the 11-month mark from now on.)
Any advice from the board on the best approach to land a room during this coveted week? The options I've considered:
1. Waitlist: I've already opened one waitlist for Nov 4-9 and a second waitlist for Nov 8-9, under the theory that I might be able to pick off days at the edges. BUT it seems like any days opening for BCV during wine & dine is highly unlikely, yes? If it's not, then I may have a follow-up question on best waitlisting strategies...
2. Welcome Home: We're planning to pick up a direct contract to secure the benefits of the blue badge regardless. I've read that reps making the welcome home booking can make bookings at any resort within 11 months and can draw from the rooms held in reserve by DVD. Conceivably we could get a booking for Nov 4-9 this way? Is this a dumb use of a welcome home booking?
3. Different resort: It looks like some of the 2br view rooms at AK Kidani, VGF, BLT are still available or partially available. Based on an earlier thread, it seems like the only approach that is likely to work is to rent our points at BCV then buy points at another resort through David's, right?
Short of skipping the half marathon this year or paying for a room for that portion of our stay (ack!), are there other options I might be missing? I'm not opposed to split stays but we are making this a trip with grandparents, so we want a 2-bedroom for this trip.
