Marine recruiter?

My son-in-law will be leaving for recuiter school this June. They asked him 3 places he wanted to go but of course it will be a while before he finds out where they will go. Does anyone have any expereince with this? What are the odds that they actually get sent to some pleace they want? And how long will they be in that place?

I've had friends end up within the same state they requested, and some who ended up cross-country from every request they put in. It really varies as to what the Marine Corps needs at that time and how many other people requested that location. Usually the orders are for around 3 years.
