passports renewal and getting the "real ID card

I have various ways, but I typically use an iPhone and a Mac, where I can transfer over photos using Image Capture.
I hadn't heard of Image Capture so I just looked at the Apple Support page for it and saw that it needs a physical connection between the devices. Have you tried AirDrop? So easy!

Renewing your passport at the post office is definitely an easy and reliable way to go. Not all post offices handle passport renewals, so it's a good idea to check which ones in your area do. Since your passport doesn't expire until December and you're not in a rush, you should have plenty of time. For the REAL ID, I just went through this. You'll need to bring several documents to your DMV: proof of identity, social security number, and two proofs of address. It's a bit of a hassle, but it's worth it for the convenience. Speaking of documents, I had to get some legalised for a different situation here: https://apostillelondon.com/document-legalisation/ and that process was surprisingly smooth.

Just wanted to give a timing update for anyone needing to get a passport processed soon. DD16 needed a new one, and we had to apply in person since she had passed from child to adult status in this context. I debated paying a bit extra for expedited postage, but decided against it because we didn't have a trip scheduled.

We submitted the application at a local USPS branch on April 27th and received the new passport on May 14th.

That's good news. I'm just about to renew mine; it expires this fall. I was hoping for the resumption of online renewals, but at this point I'll probably bag that idea and do a mail-in renewal.

DD had to renew hers (and get a name change because of marriage). It arrived at the processing center on 4/10. She received the new one back on 5/18. So 5 1/2 weeks.

Two and a half weeks must be some kind of record turnaround for a "standard" (not expedited) renewal.
