Premium Economy

So as I have posted, I just experienced a windfall of just under a grand. I'm off to Vegas in a month so this is very welcome!

Just wanted to see what you guys think... should I spend £325 of it on a premium air ticket (outwards only) or is it a waste of time?

I would be flying on a 787 on Norwegian Air.

My mom and stepsister just flew Norwegian Premium Economy to and from Oslo from Oakland. It's absolutely worth it. It's much better seating than a typical "premium economy" seat (which is 38" seat pitch for most airlines) -- on Norwegian you have a 46" seat pitch. It is more like a business class than premium economy.

Here's a comparison of different Premium Economy options and you'll see that Norwegian stands out:

For a long haul flight like that ABSOLUTELY! What a nice relaxing way to start your trip! being able to recline and stretch your legs is heavenly on a long haul flight! If we are flying for more than 4 hours I upgrade as my husband is 5'10" but has long legs . Economy is torture for more than a few hours.

I’m a petite woman, so I book the cheapest airfare and then hope for an upgrade as I have status with several airlines. For me, it’s not worth it at all. You could upgrade your hotel or your room with that money and you spend a lot more time in it. Most men would disagree with my assessment. I can easily sleep in coach though.

Heck yes. Easy. Reviews of those seats are good, for premium economy.

I just flew in Premium Economy on Westjet for 8 hours each way and the pitch was a problem. The 38 inch pitch is great unless the person in front of you also reclines fully. I had a big bald head practically in my lap. I was lucky that the seat beside me wasn't occupied so I switched from the window to the aisle. Other than that you get free alcohol and a slightly wider seat. Oh and a hot meal if you aren't vegan.

I don't know if the pitch is a problem on Norwegian, they may have more space between the rows. I wouldn't waste my money again on the airline I flew with.

On Norwegian:
Premium Economy has 46" of pitch.
Standard Economy has 31" of pitch.

A VERY significant difference.

I guess you must also consider that with Premium you get access to the High Fliers lounge :)

I'd like to see pictures of these claims about "heads in laps" and no leg room. Every plane I have flown in, when the seats are reclined, the top part goes back about 3", and the bottom part of the back scoots forward a little.

It's from a number of years ago, but I took a picture of a Delta comfort plus seat fully reclined next to one in the "normal" position, just because this discussion was on my mind...

OP, IMO, if a flight is 3 hours or more, I'm going to spring if at all possible for the Comfort+/Enhanced economy/whatever it's called. I can't justify Business or First class, but usually the economy upgrade is <$100 one way.

You want me to give you proof because you think I'm lying about my "claim"? Why I would make that up? Also nowhere did I state there wasn't enough leg room. I fly at least 6 to 8 times a year with many different airlines all over the world. I was specifically speaking about ONE airline, Westjet and the configuration of their 767-300 Premium Economy which consist of the first 5 rows of the plane. There is no first class or business class on this flight. My upgrade was over $350 each way.

Sorry I didn't get my phone out and take a picture of the back of this guy's head in my lap. Not my style.

I would research what premium is on that particular airline. On American Premium on a transatlantic flight is similar to first class on a domestic flight. Business or first on a transatlantic is awesome because you have the seats that make into beds. Make sure the seat your getting is worth the upgrade.

This type of head?

Forgive the random blurb, I'm not implying that YOUR opinion is invalid. It just comes with the picture :)

Keep your regular airline seat, take the grand with you to the first casino and put it all on black at the roullette table.

The Westjet seats mentioned are equivalent to domestic first on Delta. 38" pitch with 8" of recline, almost triple Comfort+. The person in fronts head is right in your face if they fully recline. There used to be 45-46" of pitch and that was not an issue.
