Really Embarrassing Moment with the Boss

My boss often logs into my computer so we can go over stuff that needs to be done. He called today, and we were going over stuff. I hang up, and go to make a few calls.

While moving things on the calendar, a internet browser is opened, and its made to go private. Alrighty then. Next thing I know, the web address being typed in is a PORN SITE.

At this point, I'm on the phone with a client, and I start to freak out. I try to close out of it (I wasn't the one opening the site), and get on to what I'm going.

Needless to say this is so awkward. A video was even being opened why this was going on. I'm trying to tell my self he met to go to some other site but .

I'm sorry, I laughed.

On a serious note, I suggest talking to the boss Monday morning (if not earlier) and letting him know what happened at that you're not comfortable with that. Then document what happened and that you talked to him. You might even want to email the boss so there's also a time/date record.

I'm ASSUMING the boss thought he had signed out of your PC and wasn't intentionally trying to get you to watch that. If I'm wrong, that's an entirely different story.

I'm a little confused though.

Do you have access to his screen or something via your computer? Like a screen share program?

1) He should not even know your password to log into your computer. That security violation alone could get you both fired.

2) He may be purposely using your computer to view porn in case it is caught so you (or at least not him) take the fall. Viewing porn usually means instant termination too and if they only have your login credentials associated with it, you may be fired as a matter of policy.

I'd change my password ASAP and do a screen share when he needs to see something.

We have something similar with our IT folks. They can share our screens with us when we grant permission. I'm guessing he never logged out and thought he was on his own computer.

That totally depends on the company.

Which won't help at all if he is suppose to be able to access her computer.

As disgusting as it is, it could be that there is nothing you can do about it. If he wanted you to see what he was doing, and he was on your computer while he did it, it will be your word against his. If it was a mistake, saying something to him, might make him a little more careful.

I think that is exactly what happened. I guess I'll just pretend it was an annoying popup from something? That I wasn't paying attention and was focused on the customer and didn't clearly see what was going on?

What makes it even more awkward is according to his calendar, it says he is on a double date later tonight.

We use screen sharing all the time, and I have forgotten to close sessions many times. Of course, I've never been doing anything inappropriate either, but I can see how that mistake could happen. He probably knows it happened too.

Yep. All I can say is lucky for him that he owns the company and doesn't work anywhere else. I suspect he'd be losing his job over this.

In defense of your boss possibly maybe he was searching for a company product that happens to be heavily promoted on porn sights.

I say that jokingly. Years ago I was assigned a product search from HQ in Germany for sugarcane wax. The R&D guys needed a sample of this type wax for testing. I had never heard of it before. Calling around the wax product was a mystery to others. So I began an internet search, and all that came up when searching for sugar wax was porn after porn sight. It was awkward. I was trying to shield my computer screen from others. In the end I excused myself to go home to continue the assignment and call around. Eventually I found the wax. A company in Cuba made sugarcane wax, so in the end being in America I was not able to obtain a sample. The guys in Germany needed to call Cuba and made arrangements.

I found an old toy car at a flea market. Imprinted on the bottom was the name of the toy company in Kalamazoo, MI. Curious, I Googled the name of the toy company. Do NOT EVER Google Gay Toys!

Another thing to never Google? Beaver tattoos. Never dawned on me. I want to get a tattoo of a beaver, so was looking for ideas. Yep. Not doing that at work again...
