We did this tour in December on our last cruise and we are going again in November...it was that much fun! I had a long and witty review of this typed up and for some reason my computer decided to shut itself down (gotta love windows XP...NOT!) so this time, I will be short and concise, but feel free to pm me if you have any specific questions.
You meet for this excursion at 12:20 in Offbeat (but, I think they moved the time to 10:20 because everyone was getting back so late). You are given a character sticker and escorted off the Magic and across the street to the parking lot. Everyone is given their choice of jeeps and the excursion begins. Four people to a jeep, or in our case...it was just the three of us and one guide..until the first pit stop.
You travel through downtown Cozumel and across to the opposite side of the island. Making one pit stop at the "Pee Pee Station"...might I suggest really thinking seriously about USING the facilities here? LOL It can be quite uncomfortable otherwise...
Traveling another few miles down road, you leave the pavement and begin the real adventure. The "road" looks like a washed out river bed surrounded by lush jungle vegetation. It is incredible and the only crazed driver was actually my dh...LOL Most people were a bit tentative at first to drive too fast or too rough...but after lunch and on the way back, they lost that temerity!
We followed this road for about 45 mins and then the guides stopped us and came back to let us know that from here on out we should put the 4 wheel drive on! My dh and I just looked at each other and said "NOW? they want us to put the 4 wheel on!" From there on out is was very sandy and rough, but I have a bad back and it did not bother me...it was more like an amusement park ride.
You are led to an ancient Mayan ruin and given liquid refreshment (water) and given a brief tale of the Mayan tradition. Our guides had been so humourous up to this point that none of us were taking them very seriously...but in the end it was a neat and serious experience.
From there you travel to a private beach where they offer a delicious lunch of chicken, guacamole and other things...(sorry< i swam and didn't eat) and given the chance to swim in the ocean. The waves are kind of rough there, but we were all "body surfing" it was a blast.
They allow about an hour at the beach and then you all head back, stopping at the Pee Pee Station. We did not arrive back at the Magic until nearly 6:30pm and missed our early seating dinner. Didn't bother us, but the Head Server called wondering where we were. (keep in mind we were on the sailing right after the cancelled sailing last year, so if you didn't show up somewhere, Disney was calling to find out why.)
Anyhow, this still ended up long, but I hope it helps you get an idea of the excursion. Final thoughts are this: This was absolutely the most fun we had on an excursion. My ds who did NOT want to go originally, could not keep the smile off his face all day! He is begging to do this one again. The guides were great, the jeeps were...eh...well let's say you shouldn't feel too bad roughing them up! and the scenery was gorgeous. Part of where you drive through is the "real" Cozumel and the little children will come out and wave at you and yell "Hola"...I liked being able to see the "real" part and not just the "cruise ship" part of Mexico.
Again, pm if you have any ???'s
