Why did we move so far away from Disneyland?

Hi all! Day one (thursday 8/21) was a really rough day. We got up at 3:30 am to drive from Vegas to Orange for dental appointments (don't ask). We finally made it to Disneyland at around 1:30 pm. We were really looking forward to this trip 'cuz our 3yo is 40" with her shoes on! She runs through the gate yelling "Let's go on the Matterhorn!" Daddy tells her to wait, let's try some bigger girl rides first. First stop: Big Thunder -- not tall enough (figure we'll try again later, she was SO close!). Next stop: Spalsh Mountain. Her head touches the unside of the sign at the entrance near the FP dist. CM standing there says she's good to go. Well, 80 minutes and another height check later, we get to the loading area. When she's measured, the can pass a hand between her head and the stick! After the dirty looks from the CM and asking for a lead, the lead arrives and measures her again at both of the height-check spots - one she can pass her hand between and the other she bumps the top of her head, so she gets to go on! What a kick! DD loves the ride and wasn't afraid at all! Next stop, Star Tours -- not tall enough. It was a little crowded at DL, so we decided to go to DCA and try Soaring. Well, she was tall enough when we first got in line. 20 minutes later, she's not. Hello, did dd shrink in that time? They did not let her ride, but the lead gave us a back-door pass for ride of our choice. Next stop, Jumpin' Jellyfish. DD Passes the height check at the entrance. DH has her all strapped in, and this nasty CM comes over and makes her get out of the seat. When Summer (NCM) measures her, she hold her CM ID at an angle as to make it impossible for dd to meet, eventough she is obviously tall enough accoring to the stripe on the fence. We then go to geust relations, followed by another family with similar problems, to find out just what the heck is the problem! What happened to the wristbands that worked so well before? 90 minutes later, we finally get to talk to the lead for Paradise Pier. After she accuses myself and the gentleman from the other family of teaching our children to lie and putting them in danger, she offers us one day passes so we can return another time. We both requested the she go find a measuring tap and measure our kids, but she refused. She did state that they know that there are major discrepensies in the measuring system and unfortunately the ones whe are on the boarder are the ones who suffer the most. DD has passed out (fell asleep waiting) so we go back to the room for a nap.
Returned to DCA at 8:15 to catch the Electrical Parade. Could help but joke that we had ten bulbs we'd sell back to them for just $10 each with the CM next to us - he got a chuckle out of that! EP is always great! Rushed over to DL to see the fireworks in front of Small World -- again, always great! Jumped on Matterhorn real quick (short line!) and ran over to get a decent spot for the 10:30 Fantasmic. GREAT SHOW, as always! Had just enough time to squeek into the last Pirates boat and called it a night.
Although the day started out pretty bad, the evening was wonderful! I'll report on Day 2 later!
