Totoro, Ponyo....Buddha
Todays wake up call was 8, we had to take an hour train ride to our first destination so the sooner we got up and moving the better. I surprised Alish with some pop tarts because they are not a thing in Japan. Also Pan Jewels is closed on tuesdays so pop tarts for breakfast was our only option.
Today Marisa made sure to pack the selfie stick, but then she spent all morning taking selfies because Alicia had “great lighting”
With all the Hamilton sing a longs in the morning…pretty much everyday. Alicia wanted to know what songs are popular back in the states and goes “Uptown funk” She is a little late on the times. Then for some reason we got on the topic of how Marisa basically lived with us over the summers growing up. And how when I had to go somewhere she would just stay at my house and play legos with my brother.
We left the apartment a little before 10 and started making the walk to the station. We got almost half way there when Alicia goes “Do I have my suica?!”
Turns out she didn’t so we had to head back. Marisa and I went to the 711, which isn’t a gas station just a convenient store, and went in search of the sakura latte. By the time we got to Japan their starbucks switched from the cherry blossom drink to a soy apricot drink.
We met Alicia at the bus stop and congratulated us for being the basic white girls in Japan. I didn’t care for this rude comment because the drink was delicious!
We didn’t want to waste anymore time so we waited for the bus (which also takes the suica) to take us down the road to the train station.
When we got to the station we got some snacks for our travels and hopped on the train to Tokyo station.
We walked the tokyo station for which seemed like forever to make our next train to Kamakura. The train ride was a nice hour ride. The start of how long can we annoy Alish with songs from Hamilton started. She started to really not like it (but surprise Alicia is back home and is obsessed with the soundtrack)
After our nice train ride through Japan we made a pit stop and we ran into one of the things I was not looking forward too. First off toilets in Japan are super nice, however there are some stalls that will have what I like to call a whole in the ground. Its basically a urinal on the ground that you stand over. Welcome to kamakura but I will wait longer for a westernized toilet.
We punched in the buddha address into google maps and started walking. We ended up walking down a street full of restaurants and little stores. Thats when we found totoro.
We first checked out the upstairs store and then the little downstairs store.
Besides totoro the only other anime I know of is Spirited Away because Danielle use to watch it all the time growing up and Ponyo thanks to Disney.
We headed down the street and lost Marisa in a store for a good 15-20 minutes. It was a surprise and we weren't surprised when she picked up even more cups and saucers to bring home.
Google maps took us the wrong way so we had to head back to the station.
We went under the train line and headed down a road for a good 15 minutes. Then we walked down a cute little road which was one of the cutest little neighborhood.
We finally saw the buddha from afar, Marisa got excited that she led us into a parking lot. The guard was kind enough to give us directions to get to the entrance. Of course right outside the entrance were more little shops that we lost Marisa in again. By the last shop Alicia and I waited outside to see how long Marisa would browse once she realized we weren’t that. It was still awhile but we finally went to the buddha.
We pulled out the selfie stick and who would have thought we all would have loved such a stupid invention
The entrance fee is 200 yen. Once you get your information card about the Buddha you are ready to go.
Then came the fun part of how many pictures with the Buddha can we take
