The new DVC Riviera Resort??

Yeah my boss is visiting Disney for the first time with his family this winter break. Spending over $600 a night to stay at the Grand Floridian. All I can think of is how sorry I feel for him if he thinks he's taking the monorail anywhere. Considering the prices they charge for there, would it be so hard to build a little bridge and complete the path?
The four seasons in Paris is 1500 dollars a night

You need to compare it to other deluxe resorts. Is there any resort that can get you to two parks in 5 minutes at the moment? I don't think there is. If I need a 2 bedroom suite it does not matter to me that a value has the same benefit of the gondola.

You are basically saying if Disney develops a moderate with the ability to walk to MK, suddenly Bay Lake Tower has lost the advantage of walking to MK. Being able to walk to MK will always be a benefit to BLT, no matter how many other resorts have the same option.
Yes that would be right

Given the example of the 2020 points chart, I think we will all be surprised at how high the points level will be for those rooms. I could be wrong, but I'm thinking nothing about this resort is going to be cheap.

Very random guess based on the following information:
Disney was listing AKV value rooms at a value of about $42 per point during December of 2019. If you take the rate of the tower rooms and divide by that same 42, you get 11-13 points. So that's my guess.

I mean you aren't wrong. If someone built a walking path between POFQ and MK that would take 5 minutes BLT would still have the advantage of a walking path to MK but they could no longer charge the premium for that advantage.

Overall, they can charge for proximity, and people will pay for it. Does a theoretical 5-minute walking path between POFQ and MK include a wormhole or other distortion in space-time? :fish:

Part of the room rate (or points chart) represents the proximity value, and part the amenities.

Maybe you could get loaded up into a cannon and shot there. Then again, that would probably add a point or two per night in cost and paying for extra insurance.

I agree that the point costs to stay and the buy in cost per point won't be cheap, and the plummet in value should you decide to resell those pricey direct points will be a very expensive lesson in why not to make impulse buys.
But regarding the actual villas themselves they strike me as being done cheaply as they appear to have sacrificed space to shoehorn more units in and the furnishings & finishes look rather budget along the lines of Ikea furniture and a Home Depot Kitchen to my eye. Perhaps when I see them in person I'll change my mind (I did for the VGF villas, after all.)
It'll be interesting to see whether the lobby is open or closed in, whether the hallways feel spacious or claustrophobic, how many elevator banks there are scattered throughout the building, whether the quick service restaurant is large and well themed or more of a grab and go in the store like at BC.

Yes, I understand that. There is no need to be snippy, it was an example. The point is if you can walk to a park from a deluxe resort and a moderate resort the premium for location on the deluxe resort won't be as high as you don't need to stay at the deluxe resort to get walking access to a park.

A statement in jest isn't being "snippy," but I digress.

Debating the merits of what you're saying is respectful discussion, nothing personal. You say "the premium for location on the deluxe resort won't be as high as you don't need to stay at the deluxe resort to get walking access to a park" but I disagree. The premium for location (relative to non-walking-distance resorts) will exist at both walking-distance resorts, and the remaining difference in price between them would represent the amenity differences.

You're going to start to see divergence in price between Pop/AoA and the other values and CBR and the other moderates. They'll still be "values" and "moderates" but the location comes with a premium.

I wish they would put a casino on the ground floor like the real Riviera aka Monaco. Then, it could look like the resorts in Vegas with gambling too. What’s changing a few gambling laws when you’re Disney?!? And no, I’m not a huge gambler as we visit Vegas maybe once a year, but how fun would that be!!!

Eh. I'm all about a little fun gambling, but if it was the only casino for a ways you would draw in the addicted type who really take the fun out of it. They would be down at the machines from 6 am until the following 6 am, with no glee on their faces. The fact that I see that type on cruises, that they paid big bucks to go on, tells me that the cover price to get into a Disney hotel would not deter them.

If there was ever a place at Disney to have gambling, it would be the MK Riverboat....... pirate:

I keep reading about how “cheap” the furnishings look at Rivera. Personally, I like the look but these were all the same things mentioned about BLT. Many times the dis compared it to Ikea furnishings and now so many love and trade in there.

I wish I could book for September but it wont be ready. Will have to plan another trip before my AP runs out and hopefully see it.

I’m with you. I think the theme looks great. Perhaps people don’t want to like it? If the resort was open for bookings for my October trip I would have attempted to book. I must admit however, I was interested in adding on some points until the resale restrictions.. no interest now.

It looks like a McMansion to me. Glitzy without the bones to back it up. If they really cared about making it nice, they would have put two bathrooms in the 1 bedrooms, not one with gold colored faucets.
I agree, though. The resale restrictions kill any interest I would have in ever owning there. Perhaps that is dampening my perception of it, but it has no features that have me feeling at all excited.

I am definitely disappointed in the resale restrictions. I have a family member who was debating buying Riviera direct but have put that idea on hold.

I also wish there was an additional bathroom.

As for the walking debate, certainly you could charge a premium for a 5 min walk compared to a 20 min walk.

They could put in the casinos because in a few years, we will be able to check in to the "Reflections Rehab Resort" for some addiction therapy:rotfl2:..

(**and I mean no offense to anyone battling any sort of addictions as I speak as a gambling addict myself**)

I haven't seen Vegas' version of Monte Carlo's casino (in fact I didn't know there was one?,) but I have been inside the Venetian in Vegas and it's nothing like the real Venice. When I was in Monaco last November I popped into the Casino de Monte Carlo - now that is an opulent casino! Actually, I thought Monaco would be a one and done for me, but I really liked it, so I’ll have to return as I didn't allocate nearly enough time for my visit. :)
I don't claim to be an expert, but to my eye, WDW's Riviera doesn't resemble Italy, Monaco or France's versions of the real Riviera. Not that it has to - after all, the countries in the World Showcase in Epcot aren't exactly faithful replicas of the originals either.
