Thinking of adding QSDP to my room only

We have never done any dining plan, at all. I think I want to add the QS to my ressie mainly for convenience sake. I tend to struggle watching the nickles and dimes while we are vacationing-always running a calculator in my head. The QSDP would relieve some of that stress. I just looked over the posted snack list and it is astounding to me. We are three adults as far as Disney is concerned (my son is 11). I don't think we would get the same value from the regular DDP.

One question I have is, if my spouse orders an alcoholic beverage, can she then use a snack credit for another drink-or do we pay out of pocket for that?

If the drink is a snack credit then you can use it. There are lots of snack option has to supplement your meal. The fries w pulled pork at flame tree sound amazing and can be a meal alone!

If you have a room only you can only add the dining plan in certain situations like if you have an AP or DVC. (Please someone confirm that for me)
Otherwise you'd have to cancel your room only and CALL to book a ticketless package.

To answer your question though sure she could use a snack credit to buy a non alcoholic drink in addition to the alcoholic drink that she is getting with her meal.

If by "in certain situations" you mean add it ONLINE, then yes, you are correct.

BUT ANYONE can add the dining plan onto a room only reservation by calling in and changing that room only to a ticketless package.

I was really going to do this and then remembered that I have a RO discount and confirmed, in another thread, that I would lose that discount. :(

Well that was when I had assumed you could not modify to a ticketless package but rather had to cancel and book new.
The poster you quoted here quoted me and said you can MODIFY in that case you would not lose the room only discount you currently have.

Well, you were actually correct in this case. I couldn't modify it and the CM did have to rebook, but she had to get a "specialist' (her word) to let me keep the discount and add the dining. I really didn't think it would work, but called just in case. Maybe a little Pixie Dust?

I'm glad you called and asked. I was just going to post that you shouldn't lose your discount. People do room only discount ticketless packages all the time.
