12/16/2012 - More Guangzhou & Museums
Today we're traveling to another cemetery which is like an hour's drive away. It's located in a rural area. A relative's friend has a van so he can drive me, my wife and parents-in-law there.
Here's where we stayed in the middle of the city
Sheraton Lobby
Closer look of the Canton Tower. Too bad we didn't have time to stop by. I heard you can see a lot while at the top.
After the cemetery visit we were hungry. We did pass by this local place but my wife translated it to me. We did NOT go in and no I won't tell what this says because I don't approve of what they serve
We headed park to the Guangzhou Cultural Park area to grab a quick lunch
Here's a daytime shot from the previous post's night shot
The Renwei Temple
Finally lunch time! Sorry I didn't take pics plus I have no idea what we're eating. My wife just ordered a noodle dish for me. Outdoor street seatings were cramped. I was advised not to whip out my iPhone to take pics otherwise I'll be targeted as a tourist and easily picked by thieves.
Heading back to the Cultural Park along the man-made river
Original sampan serving rice congee
Chinese opera street performers
These sampans can serve food to accommodate hungry people
One odd thing to see in the park was parents letting their kids urinate or poop out in the open. This is like right in the middle of the cultural park and the bathrooms were like 20 feet away! My wife explained to me from their language that they are not Guangzhou natives and most likely from northern China. But still...the bathroom was like 20 feet away!
So we're headed to a museum. I'm not sure which of Guangzhou's museum this is but I was told it was a district one. This is a museum that houses restorations. This building was almost destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. Kids were encouraged to throw stones at the statues to knock it down. All of these are currently being restored.
Dinner! I sadly inform that I did not take pics of dinner so no food porn! I was tired from all the walking lol
Back to the hotel. But before turning in, we headed to the supermarket located inside the mall to pick up items for tomorrow's trip to Macau. As you can tell, I wanted desserts!
That's it for Guangzhou! The next day we're headed to Macau to grab some Portuguese cuisine and watch the House of Dancing Water show!
