Universal crowds

Can anyone comment on on the crowds at Universal Studios vs. WDW at any given time? We are thinking about visiting in either Dec. 02 or Jan. 03 and and since we are DVC members we will definately be staying in WDW, kids want to go to Universal (none of us have ever been there and would like to try it).

They can be heavy too, and if you do not use Express Access you could be standing for hours to get in some rides.

But unlike Disney, you do notice a difference after 5:00 - 6:00 PM even during heavy seasons, when the crowds mellow out considerably.

So would you say that the crowds are about the same? Do they have something like a fast pass even if you're not staying in one of their hotels?

I'd say the crowds at Disney are generally larger, with Universal being 2nd after them. Well...the Magic Kingdom would have bigger crowds, anyway.
What part of Dec. or Jan. are you talking? If it's anything but Christmas/NewYears...you won't have to worry much about crowds! If you're talking Christmas week, no matter where you go, you're going to be with large masses of people!

And yes, Universal has Express passes, basically the same concept as FastPass but with a different name.

I did notice that they recommend some attractions after a certain time, late in the day.
Disney's lines will remain pretty much busier for most of the day
