Finally official.
I believe their Spain and Japan parks are knock-offs of Universal Studios. Rumor is this one might be a mix of US and IOA attractions. Probably still mostly cloned rides from existing parks. These have to siphon some business from Disney.
WILFRIED HAMPE, the head of Universal Studios Germany Development, said the firm had agreed to buy a plot of land from steel giant ThyssenKrupp AG close to a stainless steel works near the western German city of Krefeld.
The park will be second only in size in Europe to Disneys
park outside Paris, but Hampe said the new park would have a better catchment area by being built in Germanys most densely populated region.
Its an ideal location, Hampe said. There are 27 million people within two hours drive of it, neither Paris nor London can match that.
He declined to give financial details of the project, and said ThyssenKrupps involvement would cease once the project received planning permission and the sale of the land was completed. Construction could begin next year, he said.
