If I purchase tickets prior to arriving at the hotel, can I upgrade them to an annual pass at the hotel or do I have to do that at the main gate?

They will just charge me the difference between the 5 day ticket and a seasonal pass? We are going mid June so it is not a blackout date for the seasonal pass. I would like to purchase a package thru Costco travel but I can only pick a 5 day ticket. So I would just take that ticket to guest services?

Correct. The 2 park preferred AP is only like a $50 upgrade from the 5 day.

Other people have been able to upgrade at the hotel, so it is worth asking.
