Hi, will be at Disney's Vero Beach mid August-do they still have the turtle tours in the morning? Or anything like that? I'm not sure if I read an older post about it, but any information would be appreciated! Thanks!!

What kind of tour are you looking for? Nesting tours take place at night and mid-August is after the typical nesting season for turtles in the Vero Beach area.

In mid August they will be out looking for nests that have hatched. The Disney conservation team should be on the beach every morning :) there’s another group called Costal Connections that does public nest inventories, a little bit further south.

We go every August and as of last August the Disney Conservation folks still go out each morning to find and mark the new nests from the night before and yes, they do stop to take time to speak with the groups that form around them and explain what they do. I'm not sure if they are organized tours per se, but it is educational and you may see eggs being counted and so on.

More exciting for us is that this year they are bringing back the late night experience of going onto the beach and actually watching a turtle lay eggs in a nest. You wear military grade night vision goggles and the CMs use red lights as no lights allowed. We really love when they do this. This is an organized tour and you need to make advance prep for it. It costs $35pp

Thanks everyone! Really wasn’t sure what we were exactly looking for, just curious to see what’s available. We will ask about it when we check in to see if tours are available, or what time to go to the beach in the morning. Thanks again!

They are on the beach before sunrise. We walk the beach every morning to see the sunrise (so we get there about 15 mins before the sun cracks the horizon) and the Disney Conservation folks are already there doing their thing with ATVs up and down the beach. The groups tend to form a little after sunrise in our experience.
