Week of May 4th WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey team - I am also back from Minnie... had a great time, but it was quite a quick exhausting trip! I just checked out the pics of me and BLUCHHHHH... I am so sad. I have gained 10 pounds and it must all be in my hips and flabby legs. So today is day one of being back on track and getting the rest of this weight off. The good thing... I am hoping my times will greatly improve.

BIG SHOUT OUT TO MEL! Thanks for running with me. It was awesome and for the third time really enjoyed your company. I had a great time and totally agree the time/miles flew by.

My asthma was a little rough with the heat (this happens to me in July/August, so I wasn't used to the heat and running yet). Anyhoo, I plan to get a full report done sometime this week. DH got a bunch of pics of WISHers and I want to share.

Kristi--yep, I'm with you on avoiding the board b/c of not being able to participate in the Minnie this year. It was such a blast last year, at least I have my medal, right?

Craig--You rock buddy! I knew you could do it! Hmmm, me thinks, Scott and I would've been chasing you down this year had we been there. Kinda like us trying to chase Angie down last year!

Angie--WTG girl! I'm so glad that you had a good race! WISH I could've been there with you.

Glad to hear that all our Minnie WISHers did so well! Love seeing the pics and reading the reports, even though I'm still green with envy!

No workouts for me as of recent, unless landscaping counts. Scott and I decided late Saturday afternoon to make a new flower bed outside. Guess who got the majority of the work? Yes, me--good times.

Good evening folks

Made it back safely from WDW today (new battery in the car does wonders) and I just don't have it in me to respond to everyone right now, so let me just say this:

THANK YOU to all of the WISHers who made the Minnie Weekend such a great event to be a part of. It was a pleasure meeting all of you.

To everyone else, I hope all is well in your world.

Hello, WISH competition/events board! Just saw the sticky that I need to join the weekly thread, so here I am! I started a seperate thread to introduce myself, but posting here to "officially" join the WISH team! I have posted/lurked all around the DISboards for years, am a grad student about to finish my degree, and have let my health and fitness go for the past 10 years after high school (during which I ran cross country and other, local races). My sad end to my teenage-years fitness occurred at mile 14 of my first marathon (for which I was thoroughly trained and physically/mentally prepared) when I learned I had a 104 degree fever and a rampant case of the flu. I quit the race, crying and very sick, climbed in my mom's car with my boyfriend and a bunch of flowers they meant to give me at the finish and never looked back, as life got crazy and the demands of college got in the way. I've been looking for a way to motivate myself to get into better shape, and started spin classes a year ago. I just finished my first full spin class with no modifications a couple of weeks ago, and finished C25K the first week of this past March.

I'm a Disney Princess fan, and Cinderella's story is my very favorite - so, this is a perfect combination of my leisure-time passion, vacationing at WDW and all things Disney Princess, and the desire to transform myself for my fairy tale wedding at WDW and a healthy happily ever after! The race, and our vacation afterwards at WDW, has fallen into place, as I checked my fiance and my college calendar and the race is held on the first Sunday of both our Spring Breaks that semester! Yea! Here's to donning my tiara and running towards my happily ever after with my new fiance and my mom cheering me on next March in Disney's Princess Half Marathon!

Hi WISH team! I don't usually post on the big thread - my head spins too easily, I think. But I wanted to say how great it was to be part of the team last weekend. I had a great time meeting everyone I got to meet. I have posted a fairly slap-dash report on the 5K in my journal. Maybe that's not the most appropriate place for such a thing....but it's late. It's full of photos, many of them...not really good enough quality for a trip report, but I had nothing else, so there you go:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread....3#post24964313

Thanks again, everyone, for making the last Minnnie Weekend one of the most fun weekends ever!

LAST POST OF THE DAY

Ok, back to running reports.

I chased my running Guru for 8 miles today from the park to Pier 38. We were flying at 8:30 pace. After 6 miles, I had to lay off the speed since I was huffing and puffing. Once I eased up, he was gone in the distance. I kept it at 10 minutes just so I could catch my breath.

LOL, I thought I was reasonably fast, until I ran with the master. :lmao::worship:

Good, safe training to everyone, and have a great Wednesday.

Welcome RoyalCinderella! You sound like you belong here!

And congrats on your Minnie run Corrina, I wish I could have met you.

If you come out to do Honolulu Marathon, they race support and Scream Team for us in several locations on the out and back section of the race. :cheer2:

Is that an invitation?!?! Its in December right? hmmm.

I know it is shocking, but I actually have my running shoes on for the 2nd time since CMM. I am going to run today. No speed work, no preset miles to get in, no training program.
I am going to run because it makes me feel good.:goodvibes
Yes, I KNOW I was supposed to start my coach to one mile swim program today, but I don't want to swim, I want to run. So before I throw myself on the floor and start a full blown tantrum, I will be off.

Cecilia

Hi WISHers,

Back to the gym today after taking Monday and Tuesday off. Legs are finally getting back to normal after Minnie. Will give my legs a running-rest this week and just XT. Did 40 minutes on the bike.

Also checked out 3 books from the library today: Bingham, and 2 books on triathlons. Bingham--just because I figured it's time to check it out, and the tri books because I'm now intrigued by that possibility. So who know what any of this will lead to!

Hope everyone has a great day and that my fellow Minnie-ers are all recovering nicely.

Maura

Hey Wishers,

After an Amazing Flying Pig 1/2 I got back on the horse yesterday and did 4 miles. Felt pretty good and kept it under 10 minute miles which was good for me. Of course being charged up after the half doesn't hurt. Same thing happened after the Marathon.

Welcome to our new WISH members!!!

Have a great day everyone!

Welcome to RoyalCindy :cheer2:

Glad to see everyone getting back in one piece from the Minnie. :cutie:

Well I did it. Today I got out and told myself I would easy run/walk about an hour. I did 5+ miles mostly running. After that feeling of "why am I doing this to myself" during mile 9 and few others Sunday it felt good to be outside and running. Guess I've caught the bug or lost my mind.

I have been online looking for races to run.:surfweb:

Really thinking about the Princess Race. princess:

Morning everyone

I've been MIA for a few due to a stupid cold, but I'm all better now! phew.

CosiBella...the book is "Making the Cut" by Jillian Michaels, one of The Biggest Loser trainers. It's not for marathons, etc...more of a food plan, weight training program for people who are fit, but just want to peel off that last 5-15 lbs or so and get toned up. And actually, the eating plan is probably going to conflict with my training, since it's fairly carb-restricted, and we endurance athletes need carbs to fuel our workouts. So I will have to find a balance somewhere. It's just a 30 day program though. And I figure I will have to supplement some Gatorade (or the like) when I do long workouts or I will bonk. For instance, I did a 61 mile bike ride today...so I had to add in some calories to fuel that. I do triathlon, and am training for various races coming up, including the 1/2 Ironman at WDW in 2 weeks (omg! I am not really ready for that!) :scared1:

Jeff Galloway or Hal Higdon have good training programs for running, or I would think there is even something on Runner's World online.

When is your wedding?

That book sounds like a great tool for me! I have been wanting to shed like 15 pounds for the longest time! I dont know how this will work for marathon training though! lol. I think I'll pick it up, and read it and see what kind of modifications I can make. Thanks!

Good luck with your ironman coming up! that is really cool! I'm sure you will do fine :thumbsup2

Our wedding is going to be in May 2009. We are fine tunning the date, since there are a few obstacles to get around, but we think we've found a date that will work for our families at least... anyone else has to figure it out for themselves! It went from being next August/September to next May and now its only about a year away which is kind of surreal! I am getting so excited though as I can start to really do a lot of fun things like order a dress, etc! Thanks for asking, like i've said before I just love telling people about the wedding! :cloud9:

CB Michelle: You'll have to let me know how you like your CamelBak--I sometimes think I should use of of those, as it would do double duty with my bike rides. If you're not 100% sure on the dress, I'd say try some more on. Heck, even if you are sure, you might as well try more on, right? Just to confirm. And I'd think that bridal consultants would be able to help you out if you go back and say, "I like this one, but would like a longer train...." (Of course, I don't know for sure because I got my "wedding dress" at TJMaxx and was married at JOP. )

Not that you don't have enough research to do what with the wedding and all, but how's your research into different half-marathon training plans coming? It's still way early, so I'm just curious, and noticed that others have offered you some very solid suggestions.

Hi Debra! I will let you know how the camelbak works!!! :thumbsup2 DF used to take it on hikes and he loved it. He said its pretty light weight and comfortable. Now that we're getting hints of really warm weather (its supposed to be about 78 today! sweet), I'm really going to need to keep hydrated. I've been doing a lot better with that! I feel great!

The dress, ahhhh the dress. I am going to go back and try it on. I love it though, I do. I think that there will always be something that will not be 100% the same as what I have in my head, so as long as the train is not "short", if its not as long as I would like, its not the end of the world. And since I've only been to two bridal shops, I am def going to keep looking! Thanks I feel better about the dress after letting it sit for a few days.
And can I just say that I LOVE tjmaxx! I bought three summer dresses from there over the weekend for the honeymoon and they are just sooooo pretty!!! A lot of my friends say they can't shop at TJ bc you need patients to find what you want. There is a lot of cloths to rummage through, and they just dont have the patients. But I do! I love the "hunt" for the perfect shirt, or summer dress!! and I love the savings!!!:cool1:

The research has been a bit slower then I would have liked, but I am learning so much about training. Its strange; I've been a runner for so long, but I never really read about it before. I just did it to stay healthy and stay fit. But its really interesting just what your body goes through when you run and train. I really like Bingham's "marathoning for mortals" so far. I've read a bit of it and I find it really interesting! I've also gone online and found about a bazillion websites all giving their advice on how to train and what to do. Reading through these websites is a bit taxing, as there is just soooo much information out there. But they all seem to offer the same general schedule for training... long runs, short runs, XT, rest days. I have been going back to Jeff Galloway's website quite a bit, as he has a more thorough site with a lot of info on it, but so far I haven't tried to start any of theses "training" schedules as I'm trying to get up to a steady 3 miles with moderate to light effort. I'm getting there. I am going to pick up a few more books at the store, including the few that people here have mentioned, probably tonight and I'll keep you posted on how I do! :yay:

nothing new to report here, but the 3 miles are getting easier every day and I think in about another week I'll be able to start adding in some longer runs. I also started pilates yesterday and I really like it. I feel as though this is really going to help my posture and balance and flexibility which is great! I'm going to practice with the beginner tape for a while then move on to the advanced workout. :)

WElcome back to all the Minnie runners, and congrats to all who participated!:woohoo:

Kim:Oooo kickboxing! I took a kickboxing class in the fall and it was fun! (and funny at times!)

Ang: Sorry about the crummy run  You can do it. (just convince your stomach to come along for the ride!)

RoyalCinderella: :welcome:

Jeff: Wow sounds like quite a run! Always good to have a butt-kicking run every now and again!

What is this princess half?

princess:

Had fun with some speed play yesterday. I got most of my stuff moved out. The rest will head out to my car this morning (hmm that makes it sound like my stuff will be moving itself :dance3: ). Mom and I had a little Coldstone ice cream yesterday....mmmmmmmm. Sadly, they were out of brownies but I got a choc waffle bowl, so I think I'll make it! :rolleyes1 In the afternoon, I did some strength training and a short swim to help uhhh "balance" it out! This morning I have horseback riding and this afternoon I have my last final for the semester (Psychology- Madness and Medicine (Psychiatry)) then I'll head home!

I'm thinking about taking some leisure classes this summer. They offer "beginning cake decorating" and "fondant and gumpaste" as multiweek classes and they have day workshops in "chocolate candy", "cookie blossom", and "doberge and poured fondant". ...because I need something else to do during summer school!

Deb:

I love my Camelbak...I use it biking, skiing and hunting...

One of the best pieces of gear I have used.

One thing to note, if you fill it with cold water in the winter, you will be cold; on the other hand, it will help keep you a bit cooler in the summer if you fill it with cold water...

Mike

Hi WISHers,

and the tri books because I'm now intrigued by that possibility. So who know what any of this will lead to!

Maura

hehehe...welcome to the dark side!! Triathlon is way FUN!! and a sprint tri is easier than a marathon. :wizard:

RoyalCinderella - Welcome!!!!! ***I feel like I have to apologize in advance. Many of us hre are not Princess grils adn I, myself, am going to hwhine about the new Pricess race adn say that I am NOT a princess! Please don't take that as any of us being against people who are. :goodvibes Look forward to sharing more with you!!

Jeff - COngrats to DD#1!

Claire - The race replacing the Minnie is the Princes Half marathon on April 6(?). Too close to marathon fro me to make an extra trip and I am so not a princes girl.

I'm back. Looong day of travel yesterday. Only highlight was shouting to AmyBeth from across teh airport. Had a spectacular time, but am very tired. Was wonderful seeing my "old" WISH rfiends and meeting so many more!!! Like Craig, I loved the out and back (which never happens fro teh full), as we saw so may WISHers. :goodvibes PR'd by 34 seconds. Not as much as I initially thought from my Garmin, but I lost all speed after the Minnie last year with all my injury isues. So, I can safely say I'm backa dn itfeels wonderful. Apologies to Craig that it took a bit to relay to him that I was bawling post-race for good reasons.

I odn't thin kI'll ever catch up. I'll try to do a race report, but I was having so much fun running, that I didn't take may pix. There's a first!

Morning team! I'm back home, safe and sound too. I woke up at 4 am....don't you love a wee bit of jet lag? I used to opportunity to go for a quick 3 miler this morning - the first run since the Minnie.

I haven't had a chance to write up race reports yet, but I had a blast and PR'd the 15K by over 5 minutes from last year! It was wonderful to see so many of you again and meet so many as well!

On the downside the official race pictures are some of the worst...most unflattering ones I have ever seen of myself and it lets me know I really need to think hard about what I'm eating. Sigh.

Anyhow, gotta get caught back up with work!

Thank you all for the warm welcomes! Today is my first "real" training day, and I'm so excited! Of course, its raining cats and dogs - go figure - so I'll be heading to the gym's indoor track for loops upon loops upon loops. I'll just see how far I can get - like a time trial of sorts, only for distance. Wish me luck, I'm nervous! I hope I can get at least 2 - 2.5 miles! Wish wish wish wish:wizard:

Wtpclc - no problem and no offense taken at all! Disney offers something for everyone, for sure.

Joan4Mickey - consider the princess run - it will be fun!

Shout out to louisianagal and cruella de mom! Thanks!

I can definitely see the "cons" in the race, when compared with the races you guys have been participating in, but to someone who can't go in January for marathon weekend (school schedule) and hasn't participated in a Disney race before, I don't have any previous experiences to compare it to. So the drawbacks that have been pointed out (which totally I agree with, by the way - like not running through the Magic Kingdom, boring course to Animal Kingdom, no transportation from other hotels, no discounts announced yet, etc.) will just be par for the course for me since its my first Disney race. March is Spring Break time for most all the Texas colleges/universities and most public schools, so yes, it will be crowded, but we aren't skeered. We just think of it as lots of other people wanting a piece of the magic and we find our own magic on vacation even if its crowded.

Wtpclc - no problem and no offense taken at all! Disney offers something for everyone, for sure.
Absolutely! BTW, as your first big race adn with no other Disney races to compare it too, plus being a innaugural race, I'm usre it will be great fro you! Good luck at the track!

Hi team...

I posted my Minnie Marathon weekend report in another thread. If you care to read it it's here...was a rollercoaster running weekend ;). http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1814503&page=4

Let me see...I'm still so sad that the trip was over. We had SOOO much fun. I wish I could name each and every one of you that I met. Everyone was so warm and friendly...it was great to see so many faces after posting back and forth for so long. It was also great to see those I've met before at Marathon weekend!

Carrie: OMG..I tried to wait for you to get thru that long security line but my plane was boarding so I had to jet out of there...literally ;). It was such a nice surprise to see you waving at me back there. It was so great to see you again IRL. Can't wait for marathon weekend now! Or...maybe you and Scott can be convinced to come run Disneyland with us (wink wink). Special medal! (nudge nudge). Gonna' be fun....DL....California....Half Marathon. Just a thought ;).

Stacie:  Thanks for being so sweet. I sent you a PM back. It was such a pleasure to meet you after journaling together for so long now.

RoyalCinderella: WELCOME!!! :)

Claire: Leisure courses sound like fun!!!! Glad training is coming along so well.

Leana: Congrats on the HUGE PR! Wow! Great job in the race. It was truly incredible to meet you at Disney. :goodvibes

Michelle: Sorry you've been sick..but great that you're feeling better now!!! Very encouraging to hear you say that the 3 miles are getting easier each time...that's great news!!!

Joan: Congrats on a great race. Sorry we didn't get to talk.

Chris: Congrats on the Flying Pig. Sounds like it was a GREAT race. That one has been on my radar now...maybe next year :).

Cecilia: Hope that run went really really well for you!

Craig: Once again congrats on a super race. I'm so glad you went out there and had a great race!!! Was so nice to meet you.

Debra: Missed reading your great posts while I was away. I hope you are doing well and that training is being kind to you. I'll have to go back and catch up on your world here in a few.

Scott: :sad1: Wow...can't believe the trip is over. Thanks again for sticking with me during the 15K (as if you wouldn't)...but I know I was MISERABLE and GRUMPY. So thank you.

I know I missed a bunch of you. I'll try to catch up more later. I'm still adjusting to returning to reality. Gosh it stinks LOL. ;)

Amy - It took so long to check in and get through security that I figured you didn't have time to wait. In fact, I was in a hurry too! Thought my plane would be boarding, but found out it was delayed when I got there. :( No DL for me. It's teh weekend of our family trip to do teh Mackinaw Bridge walk adn there's no way I ocudl tell my little neice I can't won't be there adn I'm taking her favorite unle with me. :guilty: SanAnotinio's my next hope.

Question: OK, DH seems to be ocnvinced that we will do San Antonio. However, he wasnt to do teh full, because that would put our long trainign runs in teh fall, tehn we would do somehing like, 3, 5, 8, 5, 10, 15, 10, 6. After that. What do you guys think? Besides teh fact tha trunning the full cuts down on some WISH time, do you think we'd be ok for WDW? Scares teh crud out of me, but doing a 20-miler in October sounds much better.
