weHEARTmickey - - - That silly turkey makes me smile! Thanks for sharing the blank one. I'm going to personalize it myself.

I'm getting myself psyched up to attempt Mickey head tie-dye t-shirts . . . I'm using the 50% off Michael's coupons to stock up on dye kits and soda ash, and walmart.com is having a sale on the 100% organic cotton white t-shirts. Next rainy weekend, that's my project!

Angela- Thanks so much for my personalized LGMH! I love it!...

Angela-Thank you so much for the LGMH! I had to print one out right away, and it looks great!! Now I'm just trying to think of how to attach it to something so all the other DISboard Turkeys will say "Hi!". You really are very sweet!

Angela-Thanks so much for the LGMH! can't wait to see how many other November Dissers I can spot!!

You are all so welcome! It was good to have some WDW therapy right here from my laptop :rotfl2: I think I will make several "button-pins" (whatever you call them) to put on my backpack & maybe even wear on my shirt each day. (You know--like the "first visit" buttons they give you?) I think I saw that some of you will put it on cardstock & laminate it. Then we could punch a hole & attach it to backpack zipper or something?

That's great! Have fun DISigning ;) That silly turkey makes me :) too!

Maybe we should have a contest to see who meets the most DISboard Turkeys!! :rotfl:
We should each take a picture of ourselves w/ our turkey & post it here so we can recognize each other ahead of time. :rotfl: Maybe we should link that thread into this one so it doesn't take up so much space!!!!! Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting other dissers this trip! :cheer2:

This is silly but I am so excited to tell playgroup at orientation that I will be missing some days because of our trip. Lol, yeah I think I have lost it lol

I sent in a note on the second day of school with our WDW dates :lmao:

I will post a picture (if I can remember how) of my laminated turkey over the weekend. I'm thinking of clipping it to the zipper on my new WDW bag. The new bag should be here tomorrow!!! :woohoo: I also have some packing cubes arriving this week. Thought I'd give them a try.

Hi! I hope you all had a fabulous Labor Day weekend! I'm still here at the beach for a few more days, completely loving the lack of crowds and traffic and empty beach. I've been so immersed in the holiday weekend that I completely forgot about my countdown! :scared1: But, since I'm here alone for the next couple of days, all the company having left last night, I worked on my tentative daily park plans this morning. Next week I'll be more focused on getting this WDW party started! :yay:

Mom starts radiation tomorrow, I'm trying not to worry too much at this point.

Your Mom will be in my prayers.

What a great idea!! (I wish you were going to be at WDW the week we are so I could personally thank you for making our Dis Turkeys for all of us!!)

Our district actually allows for up to 10 excused days for trips/hunting/etc. I have learned here on the DIS that the schools in the north are much more lenient on the missed school days than those in the south. They will approve just about any request here. But I think that a lot of parents do tend to lean against taking them out for very many days once they are in high school because of the make up work.

I can't imagine taking them out for more than 5 days ever. Even in elementary. I wouldn't even consider taking them out at all if they ever got below a B on their report card. I'd like to try for only 3 days in middle school, but that's hard with our schools limited breaks. We have 3 full months off for summer break, making for short & few breaks in the school year.

So who knows what 2011 will bring. . . Decisions, decisions. . . :confused3:upsidedow

Our school district only allows 3 days for vacation and they do not consider WDW "educational" :confused3 Years ago, they allowed 10 days for vacation. I have friends who have kids in our school district and they always take their kids out for WDW every year. They are going to give me their letter.

Last year my DS missed 3 days (swine flu) and my DD (just started 1st grade today) only missed 1 day. My DS just started 3rd grade (today) and I think he only missed a total of 5 days since starting elementary school.

I would love to see that letter! Because we are farmers, we always took our vacations in the winter. When my first child started school we stopped, I felt like a bad parent for her missing school to go on vacation. Well, we start greenhouse production the end of Feb and then keep going until Halloween, so we took no vacations for years. That took its toll on our mental health! We decided that if we don't take the kids out of school now to do fun family things, we will all go crazy!! So two years ago we took the kids to The Wisconsin Dells for a couple days and they had a great time. Last year we all went to WDW with lots of extended family and had a blast. The kids don't go a week with out talking about that trip. So this year the kids are going to miss 8 days of school:eek: for our WDW trip and cruise. The kids do really well in school and we let the school and teachers know way in advance. This year is a little different because I have one just starting Jr High. We will just see how it works out and go from there next time. Some may see it as bad parenting, but I see it as doing the best for my family!:grouphug: We did become DVC members so that it would make us take a vacation at least every other year.

Wow.... you ladies were crazy the past few days.... so many pages to read... can't believe we are getting so close and I am still making changes... oh my... someone needs to cut me off... and tell me thats enough... just go with it... I did book the trip for December.... 7 days at POP... had to pay rack rate for first night (so far no codes for 12/31) and was able to get free dining for the rest of the week.... yeah!!!!

I saw it mentioned by someone on another thread about the Childrens Miracle Network PGA Tournament, I think she said it is like 55 families plus officials or something. That would account for a large number of room beening taken.

I saw pics from a TR last year and the crowds were low for Veterns Day so hope it holds true for this year too.

Fd starts on Fri the 12th at the end of my week

Thanks so much for your response.

I knew FD was blacked out for that week. I got FD because I had the pin code that didn't include black out dates.

We went last year in Oct. and the crowds were great. Honestly I thought there was a lot of people there but wait times for rides were pretty much walk on. The longest we ever waited was 10 minutes! I'm hoping for a similiar experience this year! :wizard:

57 days until we leave, 58 till we're at the Best Western Downtown Disney, and 59 days until the magic begins at AKL!:cool1::goodvibes:cool1:

Anyone else stressing out over what to pack? We're going to some fancier restaurants than normal this trip, because it's just the two of us, but on a number of occasions we're going to be in a park either just prior to, or just after dinner. For example, we're going to Narcoossee's just before MVMCP....what would you wear?:confused3

Just booked a 3 night stay at the Swan this morning! (Nov 11-14) It will be a solo trip. Youngest DS is now in college and can't get away. Somehow, I will just have to get along without him!;)

I don't see it as bad parenting. My kids get all A's & B's and rarely miss any school other than our trips. So I see nothing wrong with taking them out! (other than the dreaded make-up work )I know some don't see it as educational, but I do. My kids have learned plenty on our trips and are very well traveled now at a young age! Now if they were kids with bad grades and poor attendance then I sure wouldn't take them out of school.

Here is the sample letter I use. I don't use it word for word, I tweak it to fit each child, but it's a good start:

I'm not too stressed about the packing (other than I want to get started and I know it's too early! :rotfl:). But we went in November last year, so I have a pretty good idea of what to pack. . . Just waiting for October to get here. That's when we pack away the summer clothes for the winter and that's when I'll start my Disney packing!!

I do usually take one or two nicer outfits with me for dinners, especially if we aren't going to a park afterwards.
