Condition of BCV

Does anyone know when the rehab is suppose to start? or who i could call? We are planning a May2014 trip there and not sure if I want to deal with construction.

thanks

Thought I heard late 2014. But could be wrong. We'll be there in May too!

Stayed at BCV two years ago for F&W, in a one bedroom. I was less than impressed. The location was fine, but the condition of the room was poor. All the furniture was scarred and one drawer under the TV would not open, burners on the stove were bent and did not sit flat - one didn't work. There were a number of stains on the carpet and the shower needed serious regrouting. Based on that one experience, I would not stay there again unless they have a major overhaul. I have stayed at a number of DVC properties ( home resort is VWL) and while I could find things to make an issue of in all of them, BCV had more serious problems than any other. Let me be very clear, I don't expect perfection, just an acceptable level of maintenance and repairs.

The villas show more wear then we would like, but we still enjoy our stays there. We are back in December for a week.

We were there in June and BCV is our home resort and we love the resort. However, I have to say that I did notice the carpets in the halls were in terrible condition, in my opinion they should not be allowed to get this bad. Some were pieced with ugly mismatched carpet. The rooms need some freshening also up for sure. We are heading back in December for a week and we have first timers joining us. I hope we are not embarrassed.

Deb&Bill is absolutely correct about the age of BCV...we purchased our first points in December, 2001 ....and BCV wasn't completed yet, but, they were selling points at that time because we had the choice of the last of VWL or the new BCV...so I'm going to say BCV opened either late winter or very early spring 2002...btw...we picked VWL points and couldn't be happier with those original 150 points!!

You know....while we're on this subject....over the past few years we have definitely noticed a decline in the maintenance and cleanliness of ALL the DVC resorts. However, I don't think it's a problem caused by one issue, but, a combination of several issues. I do think DVD needs to begin thinking more of maintaining the properties they CURRENTLY have and possibly slow down the frequency of building new DVC's. After all, OKW is over 20 years old, BWV not far behind w/VB and HHI in that same timeframe and VWL coming in at pretty close to 15 years old. These resorts get a lot of use...as another poster said...they are always occupied. And I do not believe they get the proper amount of maintenance based on their usage. I have seen a decrease in both maintenance and housekeeping staff over the years and I'm sure that also has something to do with the problems. Also, I think some DVC members/guests/renters need to take some responsibility for the condition of some of the rooms since, based on our experiences, not everyone treats their DVC as their "home away home" unless they treat their own homes the same way.... As for our family, and many other families, we do treat whichever DVC resort we are staying at as our "home away home" with respect and care. It really saddens me when I see complete disrespect for furnishings, carpeting, bedding, etc. We stayed at BLT in a 2 bdrm lockoff FIVE MONTHS after the place opened and the room condition was absolutely disgraceful for a room that had been in use for only FIVE MONTHS....I'm sorry, but, the bulk of that was because of the people who stayed in that room....maybe partially the poor quality of the furnishings, but, the stains, wear and tear, ink drawings on the kitchen table in that room were mostly because the people who stayed there just didn't care. Another instance was a stay at BWV a few years ago......my husband and I witnessed two housekeepers entering a grand villa to clean and heard one say to the other....."Oh boy...this is disgusting.....we need to get a supervisor up here now" They were unaware we heard them, but, later in the day (hours later) we walked by again and they were still in there cleaning and there were bags and bags of trash....the people who stayed there quite obviously had a large group and most likely never took any trash to the trash room, but, left it all in the room and they also had the pack n play and other things in the hallway. I'm quite sure whoever had that grand villa booked for that night didn't get in there anywhere near check-in time (although based on what I saw....I would be ok with that...as long as it had been cleaned well)

I read in another thread that the mismatched tiles of carpet are there b/c they are sampling/looking for the carpet they will use during the renovation. From what I gather they are testing to see which carpet holds up the best.

That is what I heard also but I am sure they have a feeling what would work probably just waiting for the new operating budget. Do they break down where every dollar of out fees go?

Not in great detail, general categories like insurance, housekeeping, admin/front desk, member activities, maintenance, etc.

For those who are wondering here are a couple of photos of the new carpet they are trying (not the best pictures but it's also not the best looking carpet IMO).

The lighter section is a sandy color and the dark is brown. It's very generic and much more suited to the contemporary.

And here's a picture showing the new and old where it meets up.

I saw the first report about this carpet shortly after we were there in early Feb. It still looks fine but shows wear. As far as cleaning - they do - I've seen it both at BWV and they had the carpet cleaner out while I was at BCV early this week. But the carpets just have heavy use and I also suspect that the commercial carpet cleaner machine (it's a riding machine - like a zamboni) they use probably doesn't provide as great of care as some other cleaning systems. There would be dirt that works it's way down under the carpet and since they let the carpets dry naturally without blowers it will stain from underneath while drying.

Thanks for posting carpet pics. I agree those look better suited for the CR. They do not go with the BC theming.

It might just be an generic carpet and not the specific patterned carpet they will end up with.

But they did turn OKW into "Old Beach Club" when they renovated OKW.

Thanks for posting the carpet pictures. The carpet outside our villa looks different. It's a real bright blue and yellow, and the walls are painted yellow. I'll have to go take some pictures-it looks really nice.

We just got back from BCV as well. My DH and I both were talking about how worn out the Villas looked. Our studio didn't even have a lamp shade on the big lamp in the corner of the room. We were very disappointed with the carpet and cleanliness of the elevators. Made us wonder where our fees are going each year.

We stayed 5 nights at the BCV. I was so excited to stay there, but the excitement ended once we got up to our room. It was a studio on the 5th floor. I was so disappointed in the way the room looked. It was so worn out, and tired looking. The bed was so old I felt the springs in it, it was hard and it was tilted to one side. I practically rolled off every night. It was terrible and I will never stay there again. I was much happier when we got to SSR.

Does anyone know when they are starting the refurb i am going in May will be be room by room or all at once
