We stayed for a couple of nights (last minute trip) during the holidays and was very excited about staying at Poly for the first time. I was hoping for DVC villas at Poly for a long time....
Let me, first, say that the resort is gorgeous and absolutely beautiful. We've only ever dined at Ohana and Kona and rarely had time to look around the resort. Anyway, we booked a Lakeview studio with a request of high floor. And I understand that it's just a request. We were given a first floor studio very close to the TTC. Each morning at 6am we were startled awake with a loud machine just outside our patio. Once the sound started to move farther away and it felt like it may be quiet again to go back to sleep, CMs walked back and forth and possibly congregated at some point near our patio since we can clearly hear them discussing things...They didn't seem to be shouting, I suppose it was just very loud and possibly echoing...Once they left. It was quite again and then the horns started and the boat announcements began...This happened both mornings.
What we learned is that we cannot book Lakeview again since we are not willing to take the risk of getting the first floor at Poly again. We decided that we would only book standard view next time and request away from the TTC. I understand many are not bothered by this and most even welcome the sounds (because it's Disney), but we're not those people. We like quiet and I suppose we foolishly thought we would be fine at the Poly Lakeviews.
Needless to say, I changed our upcoming Poly Lakeview (10 nights) to another resort. I have spoken to the Front Desk CM and DVC member services about our experiences. I was told by the front desk that they have heard a lot of complaints about the horns and will be doing something about it. Not sure if that's true...
When I discussed my concerns with MS, they were very apologetic and genuinely concerned about my experience. I did suggest that they re-catergorize the Lakeview first floor rooms as a different category...perhaps less points that Standard views. This way, if you book a Lakeview, you will at least know that you will be assigned to a villa above the first floor. This will also guarantee those who enjoy the first floor to get the rooms they want....Hey perhaps they can do this for all resorts. I may be in the minority on this, but I would be willing to pay a couple of points more per night (to guarantee a NON-ground/first floor) to offset the First Floor Category for each night.
