What kind of request should I stick onto a standard view DVC studio for the best chance of fireworks?

7 months next week - biting my fingernails!

I'm sure the time will fly and you will be checking in at the Poly before you know it ;).

Btw, in case you don't know, they give tours daily on the half hour from 2:00 to 3:00. That's how we saw them. I don't believe you have to be Polynesian guest to take the tour.

I didn't know this, thanks for sharing. I'll definitely have to inquire about this on our next trip as I'd love to take a tour :).

Will be checking there in 39 days, will post some pics from that area hopefully!

Hope you have a great trip! :wizard:

I just returned from a week-long stay at Poly, and I didn't see any Longhouse construction happening. We stayed in Samoa, overlooking the Oasis pool. As others have mentioned, it is 99% finished, and my guess is that it is opening any day now (if it hasn't opened already). I changed my Longhouse request from Fiji to Samoa 3 days before we arrived. So, I would just pick a Longhouse when you do online check-in, and if you hear there is construction happening, just call Disney and change your request. They can do it over the phone.

Hope you had a nice trip and enjoyed the Poly :goodvibes.

So I called the other night to make a request and the CM asked if I am celebrating anything. I told her I was visiting for my birthday. She said something about having something in the room (the phone connection was horrible.) My question is to anybody who has had something left in their room for their birthday. What do they leave in there, if anything? Thanks in advance.

The best views are from Tokelau 2914 and 3914 but most of the upper floors all the way to the far end near Rarotonga can still see the castle and fireworks. Even some ground floor rooms have a view of the fireworks. The only other room in Tokelau that can see the castle and fireworks is the East Corner but the rest of the east side rooms do not see the castle. Maybe some rooms in Pago Pago might see the highest fireworks from over Moorea if your on an upper floor.

We stayed in 3126 in Pago Pago last week. It's the last room on the end toward the TTC and we couldn't see any fireworks over the trees and Moorea building.

Nothing. I got a signed card once and they gave me a button at check in. Nothing much.

I've had the good fortune of being at the Poly for a couple of birthdays for me or my traveling party. I have never received anything actually in the room, not to say it doesn't happen if you happen to get some pixie dust. I suspect the person on the phone may have been wanting to sell you on the in-room celebrations from Disney Floral & Gifts. I did one of the packages last year for DS when he turned 5 and it was fantastic. Expensive, but a fantastic memory.

That sounds awesome; I'm sure your DS loved it. I've paid enough for the 2 nights I'm staying LOL.

Let's clarify this a bit:

"Only studios or bungalows at the Poly!" - This is true only for the DVC part of the Poly resort, in other words no 1- or 2- bedroom villas. The non-DVC part of the resort has standard rooms, along with suites.

"Studio has one queen, one full pull out, and one twin pull down." - Actually the pull out in the Poly studios is a queen size, unlike other DVC studios which do have a full pull out (BWV, BCV, etc.).

Sorry, I stand corrected - i thought they were looking to use DVC.

We just booked the POLY!! It's our first deluxe stay and have always wanted to stay here. Just got a deal too good to pass up. I'm so excited to stay here, I spent all day yesterday going through the pics and info on this thread. There's so much info here- answered all my questions ( for now) I was always the person saying that I'd never stay anywhere but value....until I tried moderate. I'm so afraid after staying here, I will never go anywhere else. :rotfl: Not only our first deluxe stay but also our first in a long time without the dining plan, which is a wonderful thing too. Be prepared for all of my questions.....

Congratulations on your first Deluxe stay! I think it's pretty safe to say it will not be your last...because you will be hooked!! Years ago, we stayed in moderates, and they are nice, but we haven't stayed in one since 2008 -LOL! Every time we have booked a moderate since then, we ended up switching to a deluxe before our trip:). I'm not saying we will never stay in a moderate again, I'm just saying there's something extra special about the Deluxes! The Poly is beautiful, and you are going to love it!

Congrats on booking your first deluxe stay! The Poly is amazing, you will love it. Enjoy the planning :wizard:.

I just wrapped up another stay without the dining plan, and I did my calculations and came out ahead once again. But, there are plenty of threads in the other subs that compare the DDP to paying as you go.
We figured out that we should come out way ahead. We are only doing a table service 8 days out of 11, and 4 of those are breakfasts. We also don't eat dessert with counter services- But sometimes get 2 snacks later. So for me it was more about flexibility than money.

We booked our first Deluxe stay too! We have always loved the Poly, and when a good deal came to us, we did the same thing. We love moderate resorts - POFQ is our favorite, but we couldn't pass up the chance to stay at our fav Deluxe! You did exactly what I did after I booked lol. And I'm still asking questions hahaha! Congrats on booking the Poly! :stitch:

Wow, great - useful thread, thanks much for the information. It's very detail. That's so exciting! <3

We love the flexibility of paying out of pocket! Last trip, hubby and I forced ourselves to get the most expensive meal every time, even if it was something we didn't want just so we could get our monies worth. I'm glad I tried the dining plan once, but I'm excitingly going back to paying out of pocket!

And congrats on booking your first deluxe!

Fiji was our first choice for August initially but with pool construction completed, I think we'll request Samoa. How was your view (room #)? Thanks!

We did the DP for our 2014 trip, and like you, all of our meals were selected primarily on the most expensive. Glad we did it once, but that is it for us! We went the next year for 10 days, and for a family of five (including two teen boys), 11 TS meals, refillable mugs, unlimited snacks AND a three-day stay at a condo in Treasure Island, it only cost us $1700! That is no exaggeration! We kept every receipt and were actually floored at our savings! Disney is making a fortune off of it's patrons!
