Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

If you were thinking of going the end of May, would you ask for a renovated room or stay away from POP altogether? Is there even a remote chance of getting one? What building is being done first? 80's?

Trying to decide. Hubby wants to try it, but I'm leery of getting a rundown room next to construction.

They don't start work till nine and they are done early evening. Shouldn't be any real bother to anybody in the rooms.

How "In need" of refurb are the rooms? If you got an older room, are they pretty bad?

The room I had in December was in good shape, other than the carpet looking a little worn from the door about 2-3 feet into the room. But that happens at pretty much all the resorts with exterior doors. The furniture and beds were in good condition, the mattresses were comfortable, and it was kept very clean by mousekeeping. I have two trips planned at Pop for this year, one in September and one in December, and although I am hoping for refurbished rooms (I'll be going solo so the extra space would be nice) I won't be overly disappointed if I don't.

The "Beverage Center" on the to do list . . .could it be the cabinet that appeared in one of the refurb sample photos that the coffee maker was sitting on? I know a lot of people were thinking that might take the place of the table as far as a flat surface to place things on if they will be using the Murphy bed.

We are going to be at Pop from April 25 to May 6. The current room configuration does not include a coffee maker and I prefer coffee 1st thing in the morning in my room. Does anyone here know of a rental company where I can have a coffee maker and coffee delivered to the room? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I bring this one with me, and it takes #1 size filters (I think), which I also bring. I add a package of disposable coffee cups with lids to my grocery order, and get sweetener and creamers from the food court.

There is another post in here talking about how they will not stay at a Value resort, unless we can convince them that they should consider one. I guess they haven't been in here. POP is amazing. It's kept so clean and the rooms are in good shape. The food court is great, much better than some of the Deluxe Resorts. Poly has a ridiculously small food court, you can't even call it a court, it's more like a closet...LOL! I hope they don't gate the pools like they've done at other places, during the rehab. What I was told awhile back, is when they refurb the pool, they will gate. So, hope not. I don't care for the gates.

I love Pop as well. The first time I went there my kids were 8 and 12 and even now at 16 and 20, they love it. For me, budget plays a huge roll. But I have stayed in a mod and it was lovely, but HUGE. I know POP is large but I love the buses and the large food court. I know it can get hectic, but every time I have ever been we are rarely in the room. We only bathe and sleep there. Now if I was financially able and it was a special vacation (couple only) I would love to stay at a monorail resort. But for this single mom and kids, we love love love POP.

I am going in two weeks and had requested a room I had used previously in the 50's section which was very close to the lobby, I called and asked for a refurb if I could also get a preferred room that was close. Said they can not confirm but will note the request. I like the Pop Century and even better now that you have access to the AoA buses and Food Court. My last trip was last minute and had to stay in Disney Springs, Great room but my 16 year old said she just didn't feel like she was Disney.

For my trip, the lowest upgrade to a moderate was 600.00 more, love POP and can spend that money elsewhere. I bought a small 29.00 Pod coffee maker and will bring a supply of pods with me. Usually I get breakfast at the Food court and bring it back to the room.

The refurbishment just started this week on rooms 25-48 (all floors) of building 8. None of those rooms are preferred. And according to the construction checklist posted by the room, it takes 21 days to complete a room. So unfortunately, I think you're probably going to check in a few days too early to have a shot at a refurbished room. :(

Yeah, I hear you on the solo thing. It is nice to have a vacation where you can just do what u want when u want. I brought my granddaughter and boyfriend a few years ago, and most days they slept in and did their own thing. We met up for dinner every night. It was great just making my own schedule. I'm sure you'll have a great time. Is your guest a go with the flow type of person?

I'm not sure -- this will be our first trip together. She says she's a "light" traveler, and she seems to be mostly interested in decompressing by the pool. So maybe, like you, I'll still have my days until we meet up for dinner. Of course, I'd already booked my ADRs, so I also offered her the list of places I'm planning on eating at -- they are mostly places I haven't been and really want to try, and she doesn't have any preferences, so it should be OK.

She's a lot of fun to be around, and she's excited to go to Disney for the first time since her kids all grew up and went to college, so I think it will be a good mix of companionship and independence. Come on, July!!!!
