It Takes Two, Baby; a 2017 Flower and Garden dining report *NEW dining report!*

I like the novelty of the boba balls, but they're not always my favorites. I like the ones that pop not the ones that are just all globby. Are these the popping kind?
They were the ones that pop and that was the first time I'd ever had any boba balls! They always kind of weirded me out. I wasn't even planning on actually putting them in my mouth until I unknowingly sucked one up in the straw :o and surprisingly it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Strange, but not bad. I definitely don't need them on a daily, weekly, or even monthly basis though.

Fun update!
:thanks:

Glad I was able to help out with the preview info. In 2019/2020 when I'm an AP holder, I fully expect you to return the favor when Star Wars Land AP previews are announced and I miss it! Lol
You got it! I don't even want to imagine what those preview lines are going to be like :scared:

I *may* try it eventually with my Sea Bands but I did not risk it this trip as anything more than Soarin' is too much for me. DH absolutely loved it and claimed it the best ride ever!
You really should. I think you know Soarin' used to make me nauseous but the new movie for some reason doesn't. I was afraid FoP would too but except for a couple times when I closed my eyes I felt fine, and Chad is right (almost) - it's FANTASTIC.

We had a FP for Na'vi for another night and we were to check out Pandora at night then, but we never actually made it back. We bailed on AK for another MK night and I can't say I'm disappointed.
Gotta say I don't blame you and I'll even say I bet the boys had more fun in MK than they would have riding Na'vi. I hate sounding down on the ride when I've only ridden it once and it's so new, but it's.......just not exciting :guilty: Still, on your next trip ride it so you can say you have, but I'm not even sure I'll make the boys ride it even though we have a FP. Might end up changing it for something else unless they surprise me and say they WANT to ride it.

I thought it was because they looked alien? :rotfl: Am I wrong?
 It's as good a thought as any!

I have heard good things and bad things about it, I don't know if I'm going to try it next time. But I will say I didn't care for the chocolate cake much.
Good to know, maybe I'll just skip dessert altogether there next time.

Hmmm, I heard the same thing about the taste of the pods. Too bad you found them dry. Probably something I would try at least once though.
Yeah, that's how they are, one of those things you kind of need to try for yourself if they interest you regardless of others' reviews. Because they're "different". And as I said they weren't terrible just not what I was hoping for.

First of, thanks for those pictures! While I've read about the menu, it's nice to actually see the real thing, and also the ordering queue (or at least "half a picture of part of it" ;))
LOL I'm leaving the other half of the ordering queue a surprise :rotfl2:

Oooh, excited to hear about this :goodvibes
Hoping to get that review up in the next day or two - I'm running these kids around more in the summer than I do during the school year!

I watched a video of the two rides when it first opened and Morgan and Gwen both got bored watching the Na'vi River ride. Granted I am sure it is WAY more interesting to see in person but I think that is just a show of the "excitement' level of the ride.
Well.........it's not much more interesting in person lol. Prettier, but not really interesting. And I hate saying that. We honestly were bored but small children, smaller than yours, would most likely enjoy all the colors.

Did his meat look like the pictures? Because that meat looks sooooo good. And I think Morgan might actually eat that if we choose the base correctly.
It did! It was very visually appealing and delicious too (according to him) :)

Wonder if they are giving those out still?
Unfortunately I don't think so, I think they were just for the previews.

Finally caught up!!!
Happy to have you back :goodvibes

Aww, this is a sweet pic! Glad you guys could get together!!
So was I! As soon as I knew I was going to Maryland I was hoping I wasn't far from those ladies.

You are the DisMeet QUEEN!!
Now I just need to meet up with you and Mr. Vernie lol

LOL, I thought the same when I saw that elephant.. like did the servers just have arts and crafts time and draw it on with puffy paint?
Maybe they made them on a CM mental health day lol

Gah! We missed FOP when we were there last week
What??? Get back there and ride it! It's honestly fantastic. When is your next trip BTW? Aren't you on the ever other month plan :P

Are you into the Boba balls? I ate a few of them with our meal but I thought they were so weird and I couldn't understand why they'd put them in the savory dishes
Nope, never had them before my margarita. I can handle them in there because they didn't get all soft and mushy but I'm fine if I never have them in anything else.

My friends love Boba tea.. I'm not big on it though.
The boba tea always weirded me out which is why I never had the balls before. But I wasn't passing up a margarita because of them lol.

I have just about no interest in the river ride. Still on the fence on if we expend a fast pass on it or if we just play it by ear and ride if the line is short. Kind of like the frozen ride I think if I miss it no one is going to be too upset.
My opinion? Don't FP it. If Casey really wants to ride it just go there first thing in the morning - if you guys can manage to actually get to the park before like, 11am lol. She's honestly not missing anything if you don't ride. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'd take FEA over Na'vi

Awesome you two got to meet. I'd love to see the pick though so we can finally know what @Wood Nymph looks like. Sue is like a mythical unicorn around here.
Maybe she'll chime in and give me permission to post the picture. She looks great in it!!

Now on the other hand I'm glad this was as awesome as it looks and tasted like something new and interesting and not like a recreation of a big mac :-)
This is definitely up your alley. Try it after you don't ride Na'vi.

Coming to you everything at Yak N Yeti is covered with boba balls :P
Is that a boba ball in your pocket or are you just happy to be in Disney ?8-)

That's great you got to meet up with Sue and her DH.
We'd been in Disney and at the same resort back in March but didn't meet up so it HAD to happen in May :)

I was a little weary when we went because most of the items didn't appeal to me and I think I would have had the same reaction as you did to the foods you tried and didn't particularly like.
I didn't want to try Satu'li Canteen at first, but then decided on the pods because I hate missing out on new eateries. And really they weren't terrible just not what I expected and not something I'd get again. Glad we went there though and at least now I know what NOT to get next time!

Thank you for the Satu'li review & pics!
Welcome! I've seen a couple reviews here and there but moreso of the land itself and rides, not so much the food.

ps also don't quite understand what's going on with WDW's love affair with boba balls. They were different & appropriately weird at Skipper's Canteen (so that kinda works). But a boba ball blow-out all over the parks is overkill.
I guess someone in foods, maybe a newer chef, is having a love affair with boba balls lol? How much you want to bet they show up at least one more place before the year is done??

Awesome update, your Pandora photos came out great! Thanks for the tip on the margarita, will have to keep my eyes open for those :)
:thanks: Every time they open a new place our adult beverage to-try list just gets longer and longer!

Now I just need to meet up with you and Mr. Vernie lol

Yes!! I feel like we have met even though we really haven't!!

What??? Get back there and ride it! It's honestly fantastic. When is your next trip BTW? Aren't you on the ever other month plan :P

November!! I am trying to cut back.. it's not working :rolleyes1 My mom and I will be down Nov. 8-13! Are you doing a Nov. trip this year?

Nope, never had them before my margarita. I can handle them in there because they didn't get all soft and mushy but I'm fine if I never have them in anything else.

Exactly! The texture was so odd.. bleh :crazy2:

I'm getting to food, I swear! From the time we got on line waiting to enter Pandora and while we rode both rides, I'd been texting with Sue @Wood Nymph who was also at the preview with her husband Dana. We seemed to be constantly one step behind them, until they graciously waited for us at the end of Na'vi River Journey and we finally got to meet! I'm not going to post the picture we took since I told Sue I wouldn't, but we had a nice time chatting for a bit in the shade. After awhile we parted ways and did some more exploring, eventually ending up here:

We enjoyed meeting you and Steve. I was really glad that we ran into you at the restaurant so we had a chance to visit some more. I agree that those bobo balls are strange. They seem to have no purpose as well as no taste. :)

We went back to Pandora during our trip in July and it was very hot and crowded. It made me appreciate our sneak preview even more.

Awesome you two got to meet. I'd love to see the pick though so we can finally know what @Wood Nymph looks like. Sue is like a mythical unicorn around here.
I have posted exactly one picture of my husband and me on the Dis. But other people have posted pictures, so I'm not totally a Unicorn, although I like the comparison. ;)

I originally posted this on the Wilderness Lodge thread.

First you pick your protein, then your base, and then your sauce. Steve went with Slow-Roasted Sliced Grilled Beef, Mixed Whole Grain and Rice, and Charred Onion Chimichurri: (picture from google images, I was bad, sorry!)

This looks amazing! I am so excited to try Satu'li in August. Still debating between the veggie curry pod and the tofu bowl with quinoa, veggies and creamy herb dressing. Yummo!

Love the pics of Pandora! It looks so amazing there…I can't wait to see it! However, looks like I'll have to eat before I get in there because NONE of that food looked good to me :crazy2::rotfl2: Actually, Steve's looked decent and I actually do like chimmichuri sauce so I may have to try that. And what do those Bobo balls taste like?? They look interesting.

Great update :-)

Yes!! I feel like we have met even though we really haven't!!

My mom and I will be down Nov. 8-13! Are you doing a Nov. trip this year?
At this point all we have planned is August :( Steve really wants to get down for F&W though, so never say never!

We enjoyed meeting you and Steve.
We enjoyed meeting you and Dana :) Hopefully in the future our paths cross again.

We went back to Pandora during our trip in July and it was very hot and crowded. It made me appreciate our sneak preview even more.
I bet that's how I'll feel when we're there next month. Excited for the boys to see it as it'll be nice for them to have something new, but I don't expect to get on FoP outside of our FP and I certainly don't expect to be able to stroll as leisurely without bumping into people

You'll love it I'm sure! They did a fantastic job, I wasn't excited about Pandora at all beforehand but it's amazing.

Love the pics of Pandora! It looks so amazing there…I can't wait to see it!
It is!

And what do those Bobo balls taste like?? They look interesting.
Hmmm.....the best thing I can compare them to is.......a blueberry??? They're about the same size and when you bite them, they pop, sort of like if you bit into a blueberry. Except the boba balls pop MORE and the outside texture isn't as smooth as a blueberry. I guess they all have a different flavor too, like the ones in the margarita tasted a bit like berry. I have to ask Steve what the little white ones in his lunch tasted like! I suppose they're interesting, nothing I'd completely avoid (I'm definitely having that margarita again) but nothing I'd seek out, either.

GETTIN' FANCY

We dragged our sweaty selves back to the resort after experiencing Pandora to get cleaned up before dinner. First we did something we hadn't had a chance to do yet and explored the Kidani pool area. It's a lot nicer than I thought!

IMG_6055.JPG

IMG_6059.JPG

IMG_6056.JPG

We went over to check out the pool bar menu:

IMG_6060.JPG

They had the Black Cherry Lemonade we'd gotten in March at Geyser Point! I loved that! Steve had actually gotten it and I'd ordered the Moscato Colada, but I wasn't a big fan and preferred Steve's Black Cherry Lemonade so drank that instead. I wanted to get one now but we were really pressed for time and I needed to shower for dinner. We said we'd try to get back if not for the pool at least for the pool bar drinks, but sadly that never happened.

We had a 7:00 reservation at Citricos which was Steve's favorite signature even prior to this visit and now after this visit, I think I can say it's mine, also. This was our 3rd time going. It doesn't get much love and I'm not sure why but I'm letting you know now, this review is going to be oozing with love and dripping with praise and if I don't convince you all to try it by the time I'm done, then I'm not a good dining report......reporter.

First off, we all know that the signature dress codes aren't normally enforced. Steve and I like to dress up a bit simply because I don't work outside the house and therefore don't have very many calls to dress nice (some days I don't have the need to get dressed at all lol, but don't worry I do) and Steve just follows what I do. Plus I pack for him so he has to wear what I've brought. Anyway we're normally more on the overdressed side in capris and a nice shirt for me and dress shorts/short sleeve button down shirt for him. Well, tonight we were like low class slobs! I had on a sundress from Old Navy and flip flops and Steve had on as mentioned above, khaki shorts and a button up bowling shirt a la Charlie Parker (Sheen) from "Two And A Half Men". There were women in cocktal dresses and men in suits for some reason! Nothing wrong with that but we're not used to seeing it at the sigs. Whatever, I'm sure they all felt bad for us. At least we gave them something to talk about at dinner!

When we checked in Steve asked if Rony was working. He'd been our server on our first visit and is out of this world fantastic. Upon seeing my black capris on that visit he switched out my white dinner napkin for black which is a small touch I LOVED. The dishes he suggested were perfection. He knew that menu like the back of his hand. On our second visit we had a female server who was also great, and when we saw Rony across the room and motioned to him, he came over and remembered Steve's name and that we were from NY. He ended up bringing us complimentary champagne and waiting on us for dessert that time, working with our female server. The hostess told us it might be a bit longer until we were seated and we said no problem; about 10 minutes later we were contently seated in Rony's section. And about 10 minutes after that, we had handshakes and hugs from Rony and more complimentary champagne on our table:

IMG_6244.JPG

Followed by their kalamata olive bread with sea salt butter, which is my favorite bread service on property - but now followed closely by Tiffin's pomegranate bread:

IMG_6245.JPG
Next came our appetizers. Steve had asked Rony for his suggestions and as before, Rony was quick to tell us what he recommended and gave a detailed description of a few dishes, telling us all the ingredients and exactly how they're prepared. Steve had the octopus dish at Tiffin's back in March and thought it was near perfection. Citricos had an octopus dish as one of their specials, so he wanted to try it. Warm Octopus Salad: Smoky Octopus paired with Chickpeas, Tomatoes, and Fluffy Potato Foam with a subtle Pepper flavor from a Basil Aioli:

IMG_6246.JPG

He loved this also! All he kept saying was that the octopus was extremely tender. I asked if it was better than Tiffin's and he said not necessarily better; different, and he couldn't really pick which one he preferred. He loved them both equally:love:

I got something we'd gotten on our last visit because we'd both enjoyed it so much: the Seasonal Flatbread: Linguica Sausage, Manchego Cheese, Baby Kale, Onions, Cilantro Crema:

IMG_6247.JPG

Steve helped me eat this, not because I didn't want to finish it but because I needed to save room for my entree! The sausage on this is so good, crumbly and has so much taste. I do remove the kale because, well, it's kale. And normally I'm not a fan of cilantro but I do love the cilantro crema. Everything on this flatbread works so well together, even the kale I presume because Steve doesn't remove it form his pieces.

Champagne gone I needed something else to drink. The champagne was fine and I didn't veer too far from it in the looks dept; I went with a glass of Prosecco: Fantinel Prosecco Extra Dry Sparkling Wine:

IMG_6248.JPG

Rony spent quite a bit of time chatting with us yet he was still very attentive to his other tables around us. We could hear him talking to one table right behind us and he was just as descriptive with them as he was with us. We commented that we'd never seen it as busy as it was tonight - the place was packed and on our other visits there were always numerous empty tables - and he said it had actually been quite busy since March. He said that was good, because with summer coming they were in for slow times. Steve found that surprising and Rony continued on, saying summer is very, very slow for most signatures. He said summer visitors traditionally tend to eat mostly QS and if they do eat TS, they eat in the parks. I guess I can see that since the heat can zap your appetite, and also make you tired so you won't want to venture from your resort once you get back there from the parks.

Oops! At my picture limit: continued in next post

This sounds tasty! Too bad you didn't get back for it :(

Your favorite server at Citricos sounds amazing! How awesome that you got his section again and he pixie dusted you thoroughly! :)

He said summer visitors traditionally tend to eat mostly QS and if they do eat TS, they eat in the parks. I guess I can see that since the heat can zap your appetite, and also make you tired so you won't want to venture from your resort once you get back there from the parks.

This is interesting!! I also wouldn't have thought this. It makes sense I guess with the heat. And maybe also more young families travel in the summer (while others stay home with the heat!) and those younger kids enjoy QS and less fancy digs. Hmmm, the things you learn...

Here to get the rest of our Citricos dinner done! Also I didn't read through my first Citricos post before I hit "post reply", so if it's filled with grammatical errors and misspellings, sorry :rolleyes1
As we finished our conversation with Rony about busy vs. slow times at Disney's signature restaurants, he must have gotten the signal that our entrees were ready. He left and returned momentarily with this beauty for me: Oak-Grilled Beef Filet: with Potato Puree, Asparagus, Cipollini Jam, and Bordelaise

IMG_6250.JPG

I've gotten this every time we've gone and it never gets old. With one exception this is the BEST filet I've had down there, it's melt in your mouth heaven. The potato puree ais creamy love and the sauce is perfect. I don't eat asparagus since it's healthy for you but Steve loves it, so that always gets added to his plate. As usual this did not disappoint and I had left enough room from the flatbread to eat all my meat and leave very little potatoes.

Here's Steve's entree: with English Peas, Fava Beans, Asparagus, Scallop Jus

IMG_6249.JPG

I'm thinking this wasn't the scallop dish that's regularly on the menu because it looks different than the description; looks like risotto under his scallops? And no asparagus or peas......and I want to get this update done so I'm too lazy to try searching. Anyway, he got the scallop dish before but the sauce was different, however he was ready to lick the bowl this time, too. I don't eat seafood but he assured me the scallops were cooked however they're supposed to be and would make Gordon Ramsey proud So far so good, another visit with no disappointments! Rony also kept my glass filled with prosecco and Steve was drinking his go-to Grey Goose Vodka on the rocks with olives.

We'd noticed while there that from our table we could watch the pastry chef prepare all the desserts. This is done at a station next to/across from the bar area so it's open to the dining room. It was really cool to watch as the desserts are presented fancy-like, as they are in most of the signatures. We were planning on dessert anyway but watching this chef made us KNOW there was no way we weren't getting it! It as also right around the time we were ordering dessert we realized we could see HEA from the big windows there! On previous visits we were seated closer to the front of the restaurant while tonight we were more in the middle. There are tables right up close to the windows where the view would be, probably a 7-8 on a scale of 1-10. Steve's view was more like a 6-7 since he was facing the windows and there was a pillar in his way, mine was the same except I had to turn around. So while Citricos isn't "sold" as a restaurant you can watch fireworks from and I certainly wouldn't tell anyone to count on it, you CAN actually see them depending where you're sitting. Something I liked was that nobody moved seats or stood by the windows in order to watch; if they had I feel it woud've taken away from the signature experience. Just my opinion and it doesn't bother me a bit when people go outside at CG and Narcoossee's to watch them. It does bother me when people stand up against the windows inside though but again, my personal opinion/feelings.

We commented to Rony that we were just realizing you can see MK fireworks from the restaurant and he said, "Yup, every night. Every. Single. Night." It was funny :D

Our dessert came; Steve got the Lemon Scented Cheesecake: with a blanket of White Chocolate Ganache:

IMG_6251.JPG

He's not a huge cheesecake person but Rony recommended this and Steve loved it.

Here's the one
small blip of the night which in no way took away from our 3rd wonderful experience here, and that's why I'm sharing it. I ordered the Chocolate Banana Torte, which I'd had the first time we came. It's delicious. As Rony was walking away after taking our dessert order he said, "So one and one Key Lime Pie for you (me), right?" I laughed and said, "OK!" because I thought he was joking until he brought me this: Florida Key Lime Pie: Baked in a Tart Shell, served with Fresh Strawberries and a quenelle of Sweet Mandarin Sorbet.

IMG_6252.JPG

Which ended up being one of the most bestest desserts I've ever had!!! And to top it off I'm not a lime fan and I've never had Key Lime Pie before. I didn't want to tell Rony he got it wrong because we love him so much and he was so happy when he placed this in front of me, telling me how popular and delicious it is, and I'm SO glad I didn't send it back. If you've read any of my other dining reports before you know I prefer chocolate and/or peanut butter for my sweets however I will order this over the Chocolate Banana Torte when we go back.

We rolled out of there close to 10, happily full and not quite walking straight lines. That was ok though because we were monorailing and boating it back to the WL! I don't talk $$ here on the boards but I do want to say that every time we have Rony, not only do we tip him a little more than we tip normally, we tip him more on top of that. He takes care of us. He knows that menu top to bottom, front to back. I eavesdropped on him with other tables and he's just as attentive and helpful with them as he is with us. He remembered us again this time and even asked how our 2 boys were-I don't take points off for him now remembering my stepsons because I don't know that we mentioned them! He asked Steve if he was still with Starbucks. Disney feels like "home" to us anyway but Citrocos adds to that and having a server who knows his job and knows you makes it 100x better.

As for the food, we don't think anything is lacking. We prefer it over Narcoossee's and even Yachtsman ( however Yachtsman is the one place I've had a filet that stands up to Citricos) , but granted we've only been to Yachtsman once. We also way prefer it over CG but have also only been there once and had a less than stellar experience. The one other signature that came close for us is Tiffin's but as we've also only been there once, I have to try it again before I say they're equal :teacher: I want to say try Citricos but just don't blame me if it doesn't live up to my review! And ask for Rony because he's a big tall drink of awesomeness.

I commented too soon! So I'll just add that your meals look incredible! That filet...woah. And the scallops look perfectttt.... We may need to get to Citricos somtime...

I completely agree! We haven't done a signature that has a fireworks view yet, but that's how I felt about any TS restaurants we ate at that did.

Citrico's has been consistently good for me! Always great food and service! It's nice to see it getting some love on the dining review boards!

I got something we'd gotten on our last visit because we'd both enjoyed it so much: the Seasonal Flatbread: Linguica Sausage, Manchego Cheese, Baby Kale, Onions, Cilantro Crema:

Ummm. This looks amazing also..

I don't eat asparagus since it's healthy for you but Steve loves it, so that always gets added to his plate.
Morgan LOVES asparagus! She will eat all of yours. I can take it or leave it.

He remembered us again this time and even asked how our 2 boys were-
How can he do that?!? I mean how many couples/families does he remember?!? If we ever make it there, I will hopefully remember to ask for him!

So happy to finally see Citricos get some love!! It has been one of our top two signature places along with Flying Fish for years. Enjoying all of your reviews!

The food looks really good! I don't think we'll be making it there this time, we decided to only do one signature; and we booked Yachtsman for our rest day. One day!

And to top it off I'm not a lime fan and I've never had Key Lime Pie before.

Interesting. I'm also not a lime fan and never had key lime pie before. My aunt told me the other day that it doesn't taste at all like what you would think so maybe I'd like it to.

First, that pool area looks heavenly

And second, Citrico's sounds delicious. The ONLY signature I've done was Yachtsman's when DH and I went in 2013, and we loved it. If I can convince DH to go on more trips with me after this November, I'm putting Citrico's on the list. Your filet looks amazing! And I'm so glad he messed up your dessert so you could try the Key Lime Pie, it's one of my favorite desserts if it's made well which it sounds like yours was.

Great review :D

I don't think I've ever seen someone where a suit at a signature restaurant. Odd they were out in droves today. Though it sounds like you were dressed just like me. Old Navy and flipflops is totally my vibe :-)

Free booze, maybe I'll have to change my opinion of Citricos :-)

Yum, this looks awesome. So glad to see Disney is continuing to offer different proteins and not the same old, same old.

img_6250-jpg.252777

I'll have to give this a whirl sometime, cause anything close to Yachtsmans amazing steak has gotta be amazing.

Wow, high praise from the chocolate lover. I totally prefer a tart over chocolate dessert and love me some key lime pie so this is right up my alley. Of course I rarely get my own dessert, so we'll see how I can do in convincing my own chocolate loving princess :-)

Funny how we all eat at so many of the same restaurants, but have different experiences at them all. We've never had a bad meal at Citricos, its just never wowed us like some of the others. But I'm sure we'll be back one of these days and you may have just made that sooner :P
