Disney Gift Card Deals

I just attempted to combine 25 $100 Disney gift cards into 5 cards of $500 each online. (I saved $243.75 buying them on Target.com with my 5% Red Card discount and an additional 5% promo code.)

I screwed up entering them online because you can only enter 5 gift cards total. I needed one spot open for entering the new card each time. When I got to the end I realized I messed up I couldn't do what I wanted to do. Hard to explain... It wouldn't allow me to move partial funds from one over to another. I even called the gift card service line and they couldn't do it... so now I have 4 gift cards. One with $1000 and 3 with $500 each. Now I'm worried I'll lose them. LOL.

As you noted they only allow you to have 5 cards saved on the Disney GC site at a time. But after you transfer a balance to one you can delete it from the site and the money stays on the card.

Thanks. Yeah, I realized that after-the-fact. I thought I would just move half to the one card with zero balance and it wouldn't allow it. Oh well.

Isn't the Disney Visa Reward dollar card the same thing as a Disney gift card? I mean it serves the same purpose. It's just like a gift card. Or is it that you wanted to combine them into one?

Or maybe I'm just confused.

No it's not. Two separate entities with their own rules.

How are they different? In terms of use? Can't they both be used to pay for Disney resort reservations, resort gift shop items, Disney dining, Disney Store purchases, etc?

Yes. However, they each have their own website to check balances. And let's say you purchased something $20 and used $10 DGC and $10 Visa Redemption and then later return the item, it will go back to the original method used. I wish it would all go back to DGC.

Somewhat tangential to the topic at hand: My mom bought a few gift cards for my princess and myself to use on our trip last week. My mom lives on the opposite coast and didn't realize until after purchasing them that she'd not be able to send them to me in time! She kindly gave me all the numbers from the backs of the cards (including the bit you have to scratch-off to make visible) and I wrote them all down. Grand Floridian DVC front desk staff had no trouble at all applying those cards to our room account without the cards being present. The only caveat is that I couldn't have them added to the room account during check-in, the sweet ladies at the check-in desks apologetically informed me that they couldn't take my money until I buy something! :P (That makes sense, is fair, and I had no trouble doing it later once there was something on my account to pay for!)

Bringing it back to the topic at hand: for those worried about losing cards, you could take a pic of those numbers with your cell phone's camera so you have them just in case. That won't protect you against dropping it in the park and someone else finding it and using it, but it would cover you if you accidentally left them sitting on your dresser when you left for the airport! I hope someone finds that info helpful, and I hope everyone has a magical vacation! :)
I love this tip, but I really love your screen name!!!

I followed the lead of @gottalovepluto. Sent SM with receipt attached (just took screen shot of my order showing date). Additional points were deposited promptly.

What's funny is that when I spoke with the agent yesterday, she said she could see that it was pending on the 31st. I don't know why she didn't have the power to do something right then.

FWIW, I don't believe you can purchase Disney GCs with Disney GCs online, unless something has changed recently. About a year ago, I wanted to get my kids $25 "themed" gift cards and tried to pay with my GC stash, but the system would not allow it.

Just adding that @PerfessorZ is right, unless something has changed, the Disney Store does not accept GC for GC. I also tried to use a plain Mickey GC to buy one with a fancier design. No go.

What is the current consensus on Amex offers re: getting the credit close to the expiration date? I usually play it safe and try to use my Amex offers 3-4 days prior to expiration to ensure that they post in time. I'm tempted to run over to Best Buy today and pick up a few Visa gift cards, but the Amex offer expires tomorrow. Will it post in time, and will I get the credit? Does the fact that its a weekend matter in terms of how quickly the transaction posts?

I am in no way an expert but every time I've used an Amex offer I receive an almost immediate email. I save that until it posts...and if it doesn't post (which has, knock wood, never happened) I'd then call customer service. It may post after a day (or two or three) but again, keeping the email is a little insurance.

The fine print on (most, all?) Amex Offers states the transaction has to post by the expiration date. They say this is how they know the transaction was actually made, which they claim they can't tell from a pending charge. I remember seeing somewhere that charges typically post within 72 hours, but in my experience, yes, weekends can make that processing time longer. Amex says it's because the merchant has to send info of the transaction to them for the charge to post.

All that said, I have gotten Amex to give me the credit when I used an Offer prior to the expiration date (received the Great news! email and all) but the charge didn't post until after the expiration date. Sometimes when the charge finally does post it'll show a date prior to the expiration of the Offer, then making your case is easy. If the transaction posts with a date after the expiration date, then be prepared to make your case with receipts, order confirmations, Amex email etc. that show you used the Offer before it expired.

I've disputed two Offer statement credits recently, both via Chat. Both times, I used the Offers before they expired but the charges posted after the expiration date (one took 5 days to post!). When the statement credits didn't automatically post after 7-10 days, I reached out via Chat that I was "concerned" that my Amex Offers hadn't credited. The CSRs might tell you it can take up to 90 days for the statement credit to appear, but even they admit it never takes that long. One CSR read the fine print to me that the charge has to post before the expiration date. So I asked if the credit was not appearing because it appeared the charges posted after the expiration date even though I used the Offers before they expired. I gave them the dates of the transactions, said it's completely out of my control when the merchant transmits its info to Amex, did my part to use the Offers on time, laid it on heavy that I've been a longtime customer and I expected Amex to make this right and honor the Offer. It took some time and follow up, and the Chat CSRs had to escalate the issue, but I eventually got the credits.

Really good info - thanks. Some of my cards are auth user cards that have separate logins. My fear is that if I push it w/ customer service, they'll just tell me I can't get the offer more than once on the same account (primary + authorized). Think I might just let this one go . . .

@havaneselover - figured out yesterday that our local Best Buy has the Visa cards in stock now, but they are kept hidden behind the registers. You have to specifically ask for them.

AmEx offer for Supermarket purchases I just saw today:
Get 1,500 additional Membership Rewards points one-time by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $100+ in one or more eligible transactions in-store or online at U.S. Supermarket locations by 11/30/2017.

For those with cashback cards it should be a similar offer.

Not a Gift Card deal but there's also a Park 'N Fly $15 off $75 or more available until 10/31/2017.
