Hurricane Irma?

Not after a flooding event. You would have to treat it. Boiling, chemical or a backpacking filter (not a Britta).
Oh. What do I know?
I thought Disney had their own water system. I think of Disney as being a world unto itself. Nothing bad can get in... except alligators and palmetto bugs.

How confident are you feeling about arriving 9/12. This is my arrival date as well and I don't know if I should cancel. So much conflicting information.
Hoping for the best. We leave from RDU at 4:22 and are scheduled to land around 6:40ish. We are not connecting anywhere which I am happy about. Someone said ATL is already cancelling flights for Tuesday.

One thing I realize reading all this is if I had to get stuck at DW during a hurricane I'd want to be at a resort that has the lobby attached to the rooms. At least you could leave your room and still be indoors.
You won't be allowed to leave the room for the entire time the storm is occurring. This was the case with Charley at least. No walking the halls or lobby.

He says they are preparing for Irma in the video. I agree it did seem awfully dark but thought maybe it was last night or bad lighting?
Hopefully it was last night and they had time to get some more food and Dis added some more sandbags!

And, having been through Sandy in NYC, the Northridge Quake in LA, and multiple blizzards in NH, you never know when the water pressure will go out. I'm a big fan of filling the bathtub, for possible toilet flushing and washing, and also having a ton of pitchers and/or bottled water on hand. They need more bottled water.

:thumbsup2 I've been "preaching" that since Tuesday/Wednesday...when there was still time for incoming guests to cancel. We're in the Houston area also, small town to the west, and EVERY word you said was absolutely true. :thumbsup2 Florida will be under extreme stress for weeks...please, please don't add to the burden. :tink:
We are coming in October 1-7 and you or anyone on this board cannot tell me what to or not do. THIS IS MY VACATION...

What!?!? Really??

I guess I pictured them keeping kids entertained and occupied in a central area away from windows and doors etc. Maybe trying to keep their minds occupied and relaxed. Good to know. Back to Pop I go.

If that's true then why are there stories of people hanging out with characters in their hotel lobbies during Matthew? If the storm is mainly thru overnight Sunday into Monday, I would think people would be free to roam most of the day Sunday and then Monday afternoon.

I'm one of those naive Disney guests. Disney is magical and like nowhere else. It's the magic bubble from the outside world. It will be up and running within the week.

Wondering about people judging the amount of food the guy in the video has. How much food do you eat in a day? I could easily go a whole day with nothing (and often do when I'm busy) and grab maybe a handful of crackers in the afternoon. These people are not going to be weeks without food. They can manage on junk food for a couple of days quite easily. Sheesh.

UK guests probably wouldn't know there was a hurricane heading in, even if they'd only been there a few days. We arrived as Charley was heading in on our first trip and the first we heard of it was when we were leaving on one of the last flights out before the weather got worse.

Also UK weather generally resembles a tropical storm so we tend not to be as phased by weather warnings. Obviously this is a severe hurricane with a very real potential to damage Orlando but I think many first time visitors probably wouldn't take it as seriously as they should. They are possibly envisaging being able to leave their rooms again in a couple of hours rather than thinking about the complications of a contaminated water supply.

I don't picture anyone starving in Disney World. They feed millions of people a day. I'm sure if it came to that they have a system to get the food to guests. Maybe not hot food but they have generators so I doubt the food will spoil.

This is untrue. We stayed at AKL during Matthew and were free to roam about the interior of the hotel at any time. We were even able to take the covered walkway by the pool to the Mara to get food. The lockdown for Deluxe resorts during Matthew applied to staying at the resort, not staying in the room itself.

October should be fine...that gives Florida almost 3 weeks to return to semi-normal. Just speaking from experience here thanks to Hurricane Harvey and the first week after was HELL. :thumbsup2 Have a great vacation. :goodvibes:tink:

Curious, what do they do to people who do leave their room? In the indoor resorts, not outdoor

During Matthew, people were not confined to their rooms in hotels with lobbies. The worst of Matthew came through overnight, which is what it looks like this one is going to do. I think we actually found a message on our voicemail to stay in our rooms for Thurs evening, but we only heard it after we had been in the lobby all evening with DD playing games with cast members and seeing characters. On Friday we roamed around between the YC and BC lobbies for a good part of the day, they had games and characters in both. If the worst of a storm came through during the daytime hours, I could see them having people stay in their rooms at least for a time. They would likely post CMs at the elevators. I think for a time in the morning we saw a CM by the elevator on our floor who was telling people as they got on to please stay inside the resort and not go outdoors. I think they had CMs stationed by the outside doors for part of the time. We could walk in the outdoor breezeway during YC and BC in the morning while the storm was still going on, but after the eye had passed and the winds were strong, but not as strong as the worst of it.
