Hurricane Irma?

The locks are battery operated but I don't know if they are self contained. Does the lock have to talk to the access computer via WiFi each time that the lock senses a ID device or only when the front desk updates the lock?

:earsboy: Bill

You know, after posting elsewhere that they are battery powered, I had the same thought. If they have to talk to another computer, it's definitely possible to lose access. :/

Our SW flight into MCO on Tues was canceled. (traveling from DC). Considered changing my flight into ATL on Tue and renting a car and driving the 6 hours, but I'm concerned that flight will be canceled as well. I could get a flight on Frontier for Thur but that will cut our trip by 2 days unless DVC has available rooms to extend or stay which is going to be very doubtful. Not to mention our annual passes run out on the 19th. :/ Southwest is telling me they *may reinstate the Tuesday flights so it's best to not cancel my flight yet. I can't seem to get a clear idea and how badly Atlanta is getting hit.... anyone know? Also.. how bad is it driving through a tropical storm? LOL! TIA! April

Oh I will be so annoyed with Southwest if they reinstate the tuesday flights in Atlanta. That was when my 2nd flight re-schedule was originally booked for and then cancelled. I'll keep an eye out and see if I can rebook then since I've been unable to cancel my DVC reservation for Tuesday night yet.

Atlanta is looking to get hit. I wouldn't drive through a tropical storm - you can't see well and you have no idea what could be blowing your way. Add in the gas selling out in many places problem too.

Yeah I was watching that also don't why they feel the need to stand out in the open like that.

I agree it's ridiculous watching the weather channel as they seem to enjoy all the drama! I am now watching CNN where the correspondents don't seem to be feeling the need to put themselves out in the extreme winds and they are reporting everything going on in a calm and professional manner. Also in language that everyone can understand!

I'm seeing a much less powerful hurricane right now. South Florida looks to be a bad situation but it was supposed to be going back to a cat 5 soon. Now it will be a cat 3. It still hasn't made that turn north. It's a big storm but could the media be hyping it now a bit?
This was my comment last night. I thought things had changed and maybe media was going overboard but there were a couple of comments about how things can change in an instant and it's best to prepare for the worst.

I don't understand this comment. This is a very dangerous storm and it's still coming. Sandy was only a Cat 1 when it hit here and we had no power for two weeks. Maybe I am misunderstanding

This thread is too long to look for them and the posts are hopefully gone anyways.

People can be so careless with their words. Either intentionally or they are just ignorant to the way other people can be affected by them. It was just gross.

That's because the CNN guys are in the eye. They were standing out there just like TWC guys not that long ago.

I suppose I worry a little less about this, because I assume that when making choices about something important like what to do wrt a hurricane, people consult more than DIS!

I take the word of folks on here about ADRs and such, but not about a hurricane!

What concerns me more is when media outlets tell people to stay inside, and yet parade their correspondents into the eye of a hurricane for ratings. That seems pretty irresponsible to me, personally.

Yup. Pretty ridiculous to me, personally.

I agree.
Could it be dependent on the news outlet you are following? I've been listening around the clock to Fox 13 Tampa and they've been calm, but informative.
Florida is a large state with a LOT of people being touched by this storm. Have we had any feedback from Key West yet? I'm sure there were some fearful moment down there this morning. :sad1:

No assessment from Key West yet. No storm surge yet. And it hasn't hit Orlando yet.

3 million people in the state are without power and this isn't over.

My power's already beginning to flicker and things haven't gotten that bad here yet (we regularly lose power during standard Florida thunderstorms), so I've booked a room at All-Star Music starting tomorrow for a few nights so I can hopefully sleep in air-conditioning.

I go back to work on Tuesday morning to start my upcoming 55 hour work week (and then 56 next week, without a day off!)... I'm not fit to help guests if I don't sleep at least 7 hours a night.

I just saw that the storm's weakened a bit, so that's something. I found out that a friend in Tampa who lives in a flood-prone area couldn't evacuate because she takes care of her disabled parents and they were simply unable to leave, so I'm quite worried about them now.

Find a local station you like. I couldn't stomach the national "news" outlets and asked a friend in Tampa who she trusted in her community. She suggested Fox 13 Tampa and I've been listening almost 36 hours now.
